Publications and citations are extensively used for assessing individuals for awards, promotions, accreditations, allocating funds etc. The demands for assessment may be based on single database viz. Scopus or Web of Science which are commonly used for eliciting citations. Google Scholar which also gives citation data can also be used for these purposes or at least for self-assessment. In certain cases, significant differences are observed from Scopus or Web of Science data when Google Scholar is used. The coverage of these databases may be the reason for such a difference. In some cases, documents covered in Scopus or Web of Science have noteworthy increase in citations in Google Scholar. The present work made an endeavor to explore this fact by taking a case study of publications and citation data of Dr C.N.R. Rao, a prominent Indian researcher in Materials Chemistry and Solid State Chemistry and perhaps the Indian with highest number of publications. The data from Scopus and Google Scholar are compared and presented how the assessment is affected by taking single database for the purpose.

Rao博士的出版物和引文数据为例,试图探讨这一事实,Rao博士可能是发表论文最多的印度人。比较了Scopus和Google Scholar的数据,并展示了采用单一数据库对评估的影响。

This paper is an attempt to study the comparison between of Remote access facilities provided by Allama Iqbal Library using different softwares viz., EZproxy and RemoteXs and its impact on the user community at the University. The findings is based on the usage statistics of different category of users like faculty members, research scholars, students and staff members which had been registered at Allama Iqbal Library System for online and remote access to e-resources via EZproxy and RemoteXs softwares. The Library has been providing single window access to its digital content/e-resources through EZproxy software to its huge collection of online resources from 2010 and upto January, 2019. Since February, 2019, Library has shifted to the new and latest state-of-the-art RemoteXs software which acts as a gateway to accessing digital resources of Library from anywhere and anytime. The cost-effective cloud-based service model of RemoteXs has enabled our Allama Iqbal Library system in creating our own digital library portal with facilities to reach the target users in efficient manner. RemoteXs has also eased us from investing and marinating huge hardware infrastructure of e-mail servers, central servers, bandwidth costs, IP address registration etc. This indeed has helped the University to focus on core-academic research activities and use saved funds aptly. The findings show that users from all these categories were using e-resources; the awareness about e-resources encourages users to use such resources to the maximum; and the users are using personal computers, laptops, tablet computers, mobile devices more for accessing the information. The impact of e-resources was visible from the decrease in number of printed journals in comparison to the increase in number of electronic journals and online databases. The use of e-journals/e-databases has increased manifold. The printed material is being quickly replaced by the electronic resources due to its ease of access and availability.

ICT brings change in information seeking habit of students. Books are the main sources of information but after the introduction of ICT patrons are collecting information from internet so that they do not required to visit the library. Today’s youth is more into the social networking. They spend more time on SNS. Initially SNS are use just to socialize with family and friends. But innovation also occur in use of social media. Corporates, business education institutes are started using SNS for marketing their sources. Similarly users started using SNS for different purpose like to study, group discussion, exchanging notes etc. In current research comparative study of use of SNS by two university’s library science students is studied. Data have been collected with the help of structured questionnaire and after analyzing the data it is found that users are using SNS for exchanging idea with friends but some user awareness program is also required for better utilization of the same. Keyword: Web-base Services, ICT, Facebook. Introduction Advancement in information and communication technology decreases the geographical distance between people. To exchange ideas, talk with friends and relatives nowadays it is not compulsory to meet them personally. Use of ICT helps us to talk with them through telephone, mobile device or through different social networking sites. The Question arises in our mind that what exactly social networking sites are? SNSs are defined by Body and Ellison (2008:11) as “web-based services that allow individuals to (1) construct a public or semi-public profile within a bounded system, (2) articulate a list of other users with whom they share a connection, and (3) view and traverse their list of connections and those made by others within the system” Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, WhatsApp, Instagram etc., are the example of social networking sites. Not only an individual but also many brands, companies, organizations, public institutions uses social networking sites for communicating their sources and services to the mass. Having public Facebook page, a Twitter account, YouTube channel is common nowadays. Libraries are now legging behind. Library and information word is always adapting new challenges. Libraries launch website in 1990, in 2000 it started providing chat and e-mail digital reference services. Today many libraries are having their website as well as Facebook page, blogs etc. The libraries which are disseminating their information sources and services by displaying notice on notice board are using these SNS services for the same. More youth are on social media, so it attracts their attention towards libraries. The current research aims to identify awareness of SNS among library science students, purpose of using SNS. It also identifies which social networking site users are using and what is their satisfaction level.
