Thermo-Tutor: An Intelligent Tutoring System for thermodynamics 热辅导:热力学智能辅导系统

We present the design and an evaluation of Thermo-Tutor, an Intelligent Tutoring System (ITS) that teaches thermodynamic cycles in closed systems. Thermo-Tutor provides opportunities for students to practice their skills by solving problems. When a student submits a solution, Thermo-Tutor analyzes it and provides appropriate feedback. We discuss the support for problem solving, and the student model the ITS maintains. An initial evaluation of Thermo-Tutor was performed at the University of Canterbury. The findings show that the ITS supports student learning effectively.

This paper describes the background and the theory of the learning arrangement “The Regensburg Concept of P1 - Seminars” and its potential fields of application. This conception was designed to meet the various requirements caused by the Bologna Accords and the restructuring of the senior years of German secondary school education. At the same time it aims at finding solutions for a severe problem topical in Germany: the lack of students qualifying in MINT (the fields of mathematics, informatics, natural sciences and techniques.)

Integrating competence development into the curriculum 将能力发展融入课程

Aimed at developing academic and social competences in engineering students, a program has been designed that integrates this objective into the curriculum. Our experience with the development and implementation of such a program in first year engineering courses is described. Our results show that it is possible to reduce desertion and improve adaptation to college life and demands, among engineering first year students, while improving social and academic skills and competences in an Introduction to Engineering course.

A conceptual model of factors affecting e-learning adoption 影响电子学习采用因素的概念模型

Internet-based learning systems are being used in many universities and firms but their adoption requires a solid understanding of the user acceptance processes. The technology acceptance model (TAM) has been used to test the acceptance of various technologies and software within an e-learning context. This research aims to discuss the main factors of a successful e-learning adoption by students. A conceptual research framework of e-learning adoption is proposed based on the TAM model.

An approach for teaching new technologies and life-long learning skills 一种教授新技术和终身学习技能的方法

This paper presents a didactical approach to combine relevant elements of discovery learning and the project method in courses that include semester work and written examinations. This approach comprises three promising aspects: it increases student motivation, strengthens their self-efficacy and eases the teachers' task to integrate new technologies into their courses. The concept has been evaluated to verify the assumption that it can be applied to teaching new technologies. The course evaluation equally shows that students' self-efficacy can be strengthens by the described course design.

ALGO+, an assessment tool for algorithmic competencies 算法能力评估工具ALGO+

Many systems for learning programming have been developed in view of learning programming is difficult. Unfortunately, a few tools for learning algorithmic have been developed. In this paper, we present Algo+, a tool based on Information and Communications Technology (ICT), to assess algorithmic competencies. Its pedagogical aim is purchasing algorithmic competencies, analyzing ability and refinement steps strategy to resolve a problem. Algo+ gives a problem to learner and let him/her resolve it graphically in terms of basic and elementary operations (operation well known in algorithmic) using the refinement steps strategy. After constructing solution, the last one is submitted to, not only a formative and diagnostic assessment (a formative feedback) but also a summative assessment. The role of this tool is to assess algorithmic skills and to make an evolutionary base of pedagogical errors for reusing it to enhancing the student's problem solving abilities.

This paper introduces a new and flexible Multifunction System. By using LabVIEW 2010 Graphical Programming and or VEE-Pro with the new class of Agilent USB Devices in this application, at the University Transylvania of Brasov was developed a Flexible Laboratory Instrumentation System (FLIS) for new nanostructurated materials. This development offers great benefits to university research laboratories which need flexible systems that can be configured easily, to match the testing needs. At the same time, this FLIS Measurement System can be remotely controlled using MIT's iLab Shared Architecture and is providing a uniquely modern, Web-controlled collaborative platform in research and education.

Web-based instructional systems implement constructive learning models, in which the user has control over the learning stages, as well as over the building stages of its own cognitive structures. This model has obvious advantages, but it may fail for closed cognitive style users. To solve this problem many solutions have been attempted: extension of surfing functions offered by the instructional system, upgrading system's adaptive capabilities or conceptual organization of the teaching knowledge, with learning stages phasing. This paper presents and evaluates several solutions adopted in designing adaptive Web-based instructional environments.

The International Telematic University Uninettuno organizes an ICT Engineering distance degree course in cooperation with the Helwan University (Il Cairo, Egypt) since 2006. The use of e-learning didactic allows to Egyptian students to study at home or in the Technological Pole of the Helwan University and to take a double degree, one recognized in Italy and all Europe and the other in Egypt. After a cooperation of four years the first students have completed all the exams and are going to graduate. In this paper we analyze the main results of this international experience.
