Background: Hypersensitivity is the most common clinical problem which is encountered by most of dental patients undergoing vital tooth preparation for fixed crown prosthesis. Evidence in the literature on the knowledge, awareness, and practice on the use of desensitizing agents in the management of hypersensitivity following tooth preparation is minimal. Aim: The aim of this study is to evaluate the knowledge, attitude, and practice of the dentists on the use of desensitizing agents in reducing dentinal hypersensitivity following a vital tooth preparation. Methodology: A cross-sectional survey was carried out among the general dentists using a questionnaire. The questionnaire was validated using subject experts and the final questionnaire, with 14 questions, was aimed to elicit the knowledge, attitude, and practice on the use of desensitizing agents. The questionnaire was distributed among 150 dentists and they were asked to submit responses within 3 weeks. Results: Ninety-five general practitioners responded for the questionnaire and it was found that hypersensitivity is a common clinical sign among 66% of general practitioners, with 10–50% of patients reporting to them. Awareness of the use of desensitizers was more among the specialty group than the other groups, with potassium nitrate being more preferred (25.3%) followed by GLUMA and silver diamine fluoride.

Periodontal disease, one of the most common oral diseases, is characterized by gingival inflammation and periodontal tissue destruction. The periodontal disease phase is discontinuous, with periods of exacerbation and remission, making diagnosis, and prevention difficult for clinicians. Newer risk factors have been identified, and environmental and genetic factors may have influenced the pattern of disease. This review article highlights about the recent advances used in the diagnosing and treating the disease and throws light on the various available points of care diagnostic devices.

Prosthodontics has evolved largely in response to the changing needs of esthetics, function, comfort, and health of the patients and it is doubtless that this change will continue to occur in future. The best way to forecast the future is to try understanding the present. Hence, the knowledge about the emerging materials and latest technologies in the field of prosthodontics aids the prosthodontists to take their practice to higher levels. There are no previous articles in the literature describing the recent and ongoing researches in fixed prosthodontics. Hence, this article aims to give an overview of the recent advancements in the field of fixed prosthodontics and also provides an outlook on how it might influence the emergence of prosthodontics in future.

Full mouth rehabilitation poses one of the greatest challenges in restorative dentistry as it involves replacement of the lost tooth structure and also restores the lost vertical dimension. The rehabilitation of occlusion improves the function, which enhances the esthetics and also restores the health of the masticatory system including temporomandibular joint. There are various theories, philosophies, and techniques to restore the occlusion with their specific advantages and limitations. Often the choice of the technique is left to the operator’s decision based on availability of resources and presenting conditions. The ultimate goal can be achieved through a scientifically proven approach with principles of rehabilitation underpinning the approach. Sometimes, various options and approaches leave the clinician bewildered. On the other hand, the non-specialists who attempt to rehabilitate can deteriorate the existing dentition in its form and function. This case report endeavors to propose a simplified functional rehabilitation of form and function without compromising on the science and philosophy of rehabilitation in a patient whose dentition is compromised.

Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is one of the greatest public health risks that the world has ever seen in the past 100 years. The global impact of COVID-19 pandemic has led to a rapid growth and the use of mobile health applications. Certain measures taken to prevent the spread of the disease include contact tracing, testing, and isolation. The main aim of this survey was to assess knowledge and awareness among Indian citizens toward application to fight against COVID-19. Materials and Methods: This was a cross-sectional, web-based survey conducted during the peak period of the pandemic to assess knowledge and awareness among 489 Indian citizens toward application to fight against COVID-19. Using Google Forms, an online semi-structured questionnaire with informed consent form was generated. The survey link was sent through online platforms such as WhatsApp, e-mails, and Facebook to the investigator contacts. Chi-square test was used to determine the level of association between the variables. Results: The survey results showed that out of 489 participants, 99.5% (P < 0.001) heard about COVID-19 apps. Majority of participants, that is, 84.5% and 81.8% believed that these apps helped to protect them and community from COVID-19 and helped in self-assessment test for infection mitigation, respectively. Nearly 69.9% of participants believed that the purpose of these apps was to track COVID-19 cases, to help general population to fight against COVID-19, and to prevent spread of COVID-19 cases. Almost 85.5% of participants found that Aarogya Setu app was most beneficial for them. More than half of participants, that is, 58.9% believed that these apps alert users when they come in proximity to an infected person. Conclusion: This survey demonstrates strong public support for app-based contact tracing to tackle with COVID-19 pandemic. Majority of individuals agreed that these applications are informative and helped general population in self-assessment test and contact tracing. During this distress situation and a severe shortage oftesting facilities, the self-risk assessment function available in the apps can help identify the patients at risk for COVID-19.

Odontogenic myxoma of the maxilla - A rare clinical sighting 上颌骨牙源性黏液瘤-一种罕见的临床现象

Odontogenic myxoma (OM) is a benign tumor originating from primordial mesenchymal tooth forming tissues. Myxoma is a locally invasive intraosseous neoplasm that usually occurs in tooth bearing areas of jaws. Clinically, it is a painless, slow growing, and nonmetastasizing tumor of jaw. Here, we report the case of OM in a 21-year-old male patient which had a large, expansile lesion of the left jaw extending to zygomatic, and infraorbital rim. This caused grotesque facial deformity within a short span of 6 months. However, complexity of such tumors increases as several characteristics overlap with those of other benign and some malignant tumors. The treatment plan should consider the age and sex of the patient and the site and size of the lesion. Research shows that surgical treatment of OM varies from simple enucleation and curettage to hemimaxillectomy. Recurrence rates are also reportedly high at around 25% when conservative approaches are taken. Here, wide excision of the tumor with hemimaxillectomy was planned, but further reconstructive surgery was delayed to rule out recurrence.

Managing the imbalance forces with zone of minimal conflict 用最小冲突区域管理不平衡力量

The complex biophysical process that commonly occurs following extraction is residual ridge resorption. In a highly resorbed ridge, the retention and stability of the denture are more dependent on the position of the tooth and contour of the external denture surface. It becomes challenging to make a denture that is shaped by muscle function and is in harmony with the surrounding oral musculature. The objective of a prosthodontist is to restore form, function, and esthetics in coordination with the neuromuscular function to obtain a stable denture. This is a case report on a patient with a completely edentulous, severely resorbed mandibular residual ridge who has been treated by neutral zone technique.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most common viruses affecting the skin, mucosal areas of the body, and also oral cavity. Oral HPV infection is usually benign-like squamous papilloma, condyloma acuminatum, and focal epithelial hyperplasia, etc. Oral HPV infection has been found to be associated with some other cases of oral cancer, but it is not the main risk factor for this kind of cancer. This review literature includes HPV genotypes, oncogenic risk, oral manifestations, and laboratory diagnosis.
