Abstract The aim of this research was carried out to find the influence of using sociodrama method in teaching speaking for ten grade of junior high school at SMKN 4 Batam whether there is significance different in speaking achievement of the students who are taught using a sociodrama and those who are taught without sociodrama. The subjects of the study were 76 students. The method used in this study was quasi experimental study with Non Equivalent Control Group design. The researcher divided two classes into an experimental class and a control class. Before the treatment, the researcher did a pre-test in both classes. Moreover, the researcher taught speaking by a sociodrama method in the experimental class. The last, the researcher conducted a post-test in both. After that, she calculated independent sample t-test to analyze the data. Value of the significant was 0.000 and significant level 5% was 0.05. As the result, the value of significant was lower than significant level. It can be concluded that the using of sociodrama method able to encourage the students to affective in teaching speaking and the hypothesis tested in this study was accepted.Keywords: Speaking skill, Sociodrama Method.

A This study analyzed of psycho-analysis, particularly the Oedipus complex problem faced by the main character named Michael Berg in the film The Reader based on The characteristics of Oedipus Complex theory. This study employed a descriptive qualitative .The data obtained from the transcript of subtitle of the movie “ The Reader “ movie as primary data. In addition, secondary data was from paper, books, article. The data collection in this study was completely done through watching, giving marks and categorizing the data before do the analysis from the dialogue, situation who delivered in the movie which becomes the main data in this study. The result of the analysis this study show that the main character in “ The Reader” movie has the Oedipus complex’s characteristics. Based on the analysis in this study why main character loved older woman duet his closed relationship his mother which cuased gap with his father. Te old woman was a reflection of his mother.

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui efektivitas pendekatan CTL dan PBL dengan setting kooperatif tipe STAD (Student Teams Achievement Divisions) ditinjau dari kemampuan literasi matematis siswa SMP Negeri 4 Batam. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian quasi experiment dengan Nonequivalent Control-Group Design. Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa SMP Negeri 4 Batam kelas VIII, dengan sampel siswa kelas VIII D dan kelas VIII E. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah tes kemampuan literasi matematis. Teknik analisis data menggunakan uji-t satu sampel untuk hipotesis 1 dan 2 serta uji-t polled varians untuk hipotesis 3 dengan taraf keyakinan 5%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) Pendekatan CTL dengan setting Kooperatif tipe STAD efektif ditinjau dari kemampuan literasi matematis siswa SMPN 4 Batam, (2) Pendekatan PBL dengan setting Kooperatif tipe STAD efektif ditinjau dari kemampuan literasi matematis siswa SMPN 4 Batam, dan (3) Tidak terdapat perbedaan efektivitas antara pendekatan CTL dan PBL dengan setting Kooperatif tipe STAD ditinjau dari kemampuan literasi matematis siswa SMPN 4 Batam.Kata Kunci: Pendekatan CTL, Pendekatan PBL, Student Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD), Kemampuan literasi matematis
本研究的目的是确定CTL方法和PBL合作状态的有效性,以评估来自SMP Negeri 4 Batam的数学能力。这项研究是一种由非equivalent控制组设计的专门研究性质。本研究的学生全部是国立四巴淡八年级的学生,其中八年级D班和八年级E班的学生样本是数学读写能力测试。数据分析技术采用单个样本的uji-t为假设1和2,以及uj -t polled变量为假设3的可行性为5%。研究结果表明:(1)方法CTL (united nations high commissioner for refugees)表示合作STAD类型设置有效地分析学生数学素养能力4巴淡,(2)方法PBL (united nations high commissioner for refugees)表示合作STAD类型设置有效地分析学生数学素养能力4巴淡,(3)不CTL有有效性区别的方法和PBL (united nations high commissioner for refugees)表示合作STAD类型设置学生数学素养能力分析4巴淡。关键词:CTL方法、PBL方法、学生成绩部门(STAD)、数学素数能力

Batam society shows pluralistic and different with Malay world existence. Perpat Perpat represent the real Malay world which has been lost. This reseach aims to know and understanding Perpat history parallel with social dynamic happened in early founding and understanding social cultural identification built by Perpat with historical perspective.This research uses history method. It done by 4 stages that are:1) Heuristic, that is sources collecting; 2) criticthat is sources validation; 3) interpretation that issourcesunderstanding; and 4) historiography that means historical writing process.This research results show that history of Perpat founding related with resistance of injustice to tempatan or local settlement. Moreover Perpat succeed show Malay identification process related with Malay social society in Batam area.Kata kunci: Perpat, Malay, identification

Atmosfir kesibukan mahasiswa dalam melakukan rutinitas kuliah dan bekerja serta latar belakang perbedaan atau keragaman suku, golongan, adat istiadat, agama dan budaya menjadikan keraguan akan adanya rasa nasionalisme yang memupuk persatuan kesatuan bangsa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pemahaman rasa nasionalisme mahasiswa pendidikan Sejarah di Universitas Riau Kepulauan. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif deskriptif dengan menggunakan metode survei. Populasi dalam penelitian ini yaitu seluruh mahasiswa pendidikan sejarah Universitas Riau kepulauan di Batam. Teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan teknik sampling jenuh. Sampel dalam penelitian ini yaitu mahasiswa semester II, semester IV dan semester V. Teknik analisis data dalam penelitian kuantitatif menggunakan data statistik. Hasil penelitian yang akan disajikan oleh peneliti berupa ujian asumsi. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa mahasiswa pendidikan sejarah yang mayoritas mahasiswanya adalah pekerja dari berbagai suku, agama dan budaya memiliki rasa dan jiwa nasionalisme yang tinggi. Mahasiswa pendidikan sejarah Universitas Riau Kepulauan memiliki rasa nasionalisme yang dilandaskan karena menyadari adanya perbedaan baik itu suku ataupun agama (sara) sebagai bangsa Indonesia. Translating utterances is not similar to translating sentences. It requires special attention as there is an intended meaning or message transferred by a speaker to a hearer. Context of the situation overshadowing the utterance must be obeyed carefully. Thus the messages will be easily revealed. Speech act is a way that allows the messages of utterances to be seen. Schiffrin (2001) stated that speech act is one of pragmatics’ basic ingredients arranging by words and corresponding to sentences and some ways to avoid kinds of misunderstanding in communication. The focus of speech act is illucution since it shows the intention of utterances uttered. It is also much correlated with translation. In translating an utterance, it is not merely translated literally, but there is also an intention that should be translated. This paper is aimed to analyze directive speech act in The Old Man and The Sea and its translation into Indonesian. It tries to reveal the functions of directive speech acts, translation techniques used and the translation quality (readability, accuracy, and acceptability).Keywords: translation analysis, directive speech acts, The Old Man and The Sea Novel.

One of student’s competence that is expected in college level is to be able to write an argumentative essay. An argumentative essay is a genre of writing that requires students to investigate a topic; collect; generate, evaluate evidence, and establish a position on the topic in a concise manner. The purpose of this study was to find out how EFL learners’ writing competence in writing an argumentative essay. Then, the research question was how are EFL learners’ writing skill in writing an argumentative essay. The research was a descriptive qualitative study, as the data on EFL learners’ writing was analyzed to determine their competence in writing an argumentative essay. The analysis was conducted by describing and explaining the data. The study found that EFL learners’ writing skill in writing an argumentative essay was mostly adequate. In general, the organization was clear and showed the purpose of writing clearly; the content was in logical sequence; the grammar was mostly effective, even though, there were some flaws in the structure of some complex sentences; most of the mechanics were legible and neat, sometimes the word choice is not too appropriate for the context, but it could convey the message of an essay.

This study was aimed to analyze types of cooperative maxims in the” Omar” movie. In addition, this study could be considered as a language is a complex phenomenon whose meaning depends on where and when it is used in the “Omar”movie based on the interrogation between the Israeli soldier and the main character (Omar). This study used cooperative maxims of Grice’s theory that The cooperative principle was stated in the following way make your conversational contribution such as was required, at the stage at which it occurs, by the accepted purpose or direction of the talk exchange in which you were engaged. This study applied descriptive qualitative approach in analyzing of the data obtained. The data based on the transcription of the dialogue of the main character and the Israeli soldier. The data found was the maxim of quantity 16 %, maxim of quality 5%, maxim of relevant 47%, and maxim of manner 32 %. Therefore, in this study the most dominant was relevant maxims. Thus, the most frequently used was relevant maxims because the interrogation needed relevant to answer the interogerator.Keywords: Analysis, Cooperative Maxims and Omar Movie.

In addition, this study could be considered as a language is a complex phenomenon whose meaning depends on where and when it is used in the “Omar”movie based on the interrogation between the Israeli soldier and the main character (Omar). This study used cooperative maxims of Grice’s theory that The cooperative principle was stated in the following way make your conversational contribution such as was required, at the stage at which it occurs, by the accepted purpose or direction of the talk exchange in which you were engaged. This study applied descriptive qualitative approach in analyzing of the data obtained. The data based on the transcription of the dialogue of the main character and the Israeli soldier. The data found was the maxim of quantity 16 %, maxim of quality 5%, maxim of relevant 47%, and maxim of manner 32 %. Therefore, in this study the most dominant was relevant maxims. This research is a descriptive qualitative research with social and economic science approach. The method used there are several stages including (1) data collection techniques consist of observation, interview and documentation (2) data analysis consisting of data reduction, data presentation and conclusion (3) data validity by using data triangulation technique. This research indicates that the factors driving people to choose the profession as a taxi driver because in the former this profession has a high income, according to the infoman in the 90's only job there is taxi driver taxi jobs, and his working time in this profession is flexible and has no contract work. Taxi drivers in Sekupang Sub-district average their education is graduated from junior high school to high school. Religion owned by taxi drivers in Sekupang Sub-district is more dominant in Islam, but it is not possible that there is no religion. The number of children owned by each taxi driver in Sekupang District consists of two people up to three children in one family. The marital status of each taxi driver in Sekupang Sub-district is already family. Old Tiban people who work as a taxi driver in the district Sekupang not have health insurance, they use personal money if they need medical treatment. Taxi drivers in Sekupang Sub-district come from a variety of regions, but more dominates many who come from the West Sumatra region. Revenue that can be obtained decreased slightly compared to income in the early 90's, which in a day only get Rp. 50,000 to Rp. 100,000.Keywords: Socio-Economic Life, Taxi Driver, Sekupang Sub-district

Belajar adalah suatu proses usaha yang dilakukan untuk memperoleh suatu perubahan tingkah laku. Perwujudan perubahan tingkah laku hasil belajar seperti adanya peningkatan kemampuan siswa sesuai dengan tujuan yang telah ditetapkan. Realitanya masih ada siswa yang mengalami hambatan dalam proses belajar. Berdasarkan survei awal, rata-rata siswa memiliki nilai di bawah KKM yaitu 75 dan terdapat siswa yang mengalami hambatan dalam proses belajar. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui tingkat kesulitan belajar siswa. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan menggunakan metode kuantitatif dengan jenis penelitian deskriptif. Adapun yang menjadi populasi dalam penelitian adalah siswa kelas VIII dengan jumlah siswa 214 siswa. Teknik pengambilan sampel yang digunakan oleh peneliti adalah proportional random sampling. Dengan teknik tersebut, maka jumlah sampel yang diambil adalah 140 orang siswa. Alat pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah angket kesulitan belajar. Analisis data menggunakan tingkat persentase. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data dan pembahasan dari hasil penelitian, maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa: Tingkat kesulitan belajar siswa kelas VIII di SMP Negeri 50 Batam dengan hasil 43,60% dari 140 siswa termasuk dalam kategori sedang. Adapun klasifikasi kesulitan belajar tertinggi yang di alami oleh siswa kelas VIII di SMP Negeri 50 Batam adalah terdapat pada klasifikasi kesulitan belajar memory disorder dengan persentase 42%. Sedangkan klasifikasi kesulitan belajar terendah sebesar 43% dalam klasifikasi menghitung. Disarankan siswa untuk membuat jadwal belajar, membaca sebelum memulai pelajaran, mengerjakan setiap tugas yang diberikan guru, dan meningkatkan semangat belajar.
