The first problem we confront in the study and research of the philosophical thought of Mao Zedong is the relationship between Mao Zedong Philosophical Thought and Mao Zedong Thought. Clarification of the relationship between the two can assist our understanding of the status and function of Mao Zedong Philosophical Thought in Mao Zedong Thought, and thereby promote our understanding of why it is necessary to study and research Mao Zedong Philosophical Thought.

In studying and researching Mao Zedong's philosophical thought, it is necessary not only to study the relationship between it and Marxist philosophy, but also to study its relationship to China's traditional philosophy.
学习和研究毛泽东哲学思想,不仅要研究它与马克思主义哲学的关系,还要研究它与中国传统哲学的关系。

1983 was the ninetieth anniversary of Comrade Mao Zedong's birth. The best means of commemorating this event is to conscientiously study, uphold and develop Mao Zedong Thought. The things that we should study are many, and among these one important aspect is Comrade Mao's theories on Marxist dialectics.
我们要学习的东西很多,其中很重要的一个方面就是毛同志的马克思主义辩证法理论。

Buddhism's profound and longlasting impact on China's traditional culture has come to be increasingly acknowledged and understood. At the same time, the great impact that China's traditional culture has on the teachings of Buddhism has also come to be increasingly studied and emphasized by the circles of Buddhist teachers. Thus, the study of the relationship and interaction between Buddhism and Chinese culture has become a major component of the current study of culture.

The "Philosophy of the Mind" teachings of Lu [Jiuyuan] and Wang [Yangming] represented a major school of thought in the neo-Confucianism of the Song and Ming dynasties. This school of thought can trace its sources and genealogy back to the notions of "fulfill the mind, know nature, and know Heaven" (jin xin, zhi xing, zhi tian) and "All Things are possessed within myself (wanwu jie bei yu wuo) of Mencius in the pre-Qin period of Chinese philosophy, and was formed from these basic philosophical notions; further, it was a school of subjective idealism unique to Chinese philosophy. It had a significant impact on the enlightenment thought both in the period between the Ming and Qing dynasties and in the modern era. Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, and particularly in the last ten years, in the wake of the deepening of the studies on the scholarship of the Song and Ming periods on the part of people in our country, there has also been very great progress in the area of research of the Lu a...

Within the grand river of China's contemporary thought, a tributary of neo-Confucianism has emerged alongside the mainstreams of science, democracy, and socialist thought. To start with, there was Liang Shuming, who bucked the current during the time of the New Cultural Movement. At the time, he wrote the book Dongxi wenhua ji qi zhexue (The Eastern and Western cultures and their respective philosophies). In so doing, he affirmed the cultural value of Confucianist thinking in modern society. Following in Liang's footsteps, Zhang Junmai, Feng Youlan, He Lin, Xiong Shili, and others also wrote treatises and offered teachings that had the effect of reforming Confucianism by injecting it with new content, and striving to make it more responsive to the needs of contemporary society. In this way, neo-Confucianism has slowly become a noticeable intellectual current. There is a peculiar characteristic in China's traditional culture, which is its emphasis on the study of the question of "humanity." In particular, the teachings of the school of Confucianism contain within them especially strong elements of humanistic thought. There are people in academic circles today who value this highly, considering this to be the source that has provided the intellectual foundation for the concept of the public good in China (tianxia wei gong), and for China's moral rationality. However, at the same time there are those who hold an opposing viewpoint, believing, from a mainstream perspective, that what China's traditional humanistic thought has in fact led to was the doctrine of monarchical power, and to the state where human beings have ceased to be esteemed as human beings. Thus, the question of how we should evaluate the place of this Confucianist humanistic thought in history deserves some serious studying and exploration.

In the discussions regarding the philosophical system and the essence of Marxism, ontological theory is a very important issue. At the moment, there are three basic sets of opinions on this problem, namely, the opinion that Marxism, in fact, does not consist of any ontological theory (or, if you will, the antiontological theory), the opinion that Marxist ontology is a theory of practical ontology, and the opinion that it is a dialectical materialist theory of material monism. The latter two acknowledge that Marxist philosophy does involve an ontological theory. The following article, proceeding on this premise, will focus on whether the ontological theory in Marxist philosophy is a theory of practical ontology or a dialectical materialist theory of material monism. I would like to propose a number of topics for concrete discussion surrounding this general issue.

"Western Marxism" first made its appearance in the early 1920s and rapidly developed and spread after the Second World War, especially since the mid-1950s. Currently, it is not only popular in the advanced capitalist countries of Europe and America, but also commands considerable influence in some socialist and Third World countries. One of the major reasons for its broad influence is that it has managed to grasp the modern-day characteristic of scientific technology increasingly becoming the primary force of production, and to use this to carry out multi-faceted observations and criticisms of contemporary capitalist society. In this way, it has expressed a positive and actively critical spirit. In this article, we shall provide a general survey of some critical theories of Western Marxism.

In recent years, there has been a heated debate in our country concerning the issue of practical materialism. Many interpretations of practical materialism have been proposed, and, of these, one is particularly noticeable and has had a strong influence. In this essay, I will attempt to make a more systematic analysis of this interpretation. Some of the material in this essay comes from published articles; some comes from statements and speeches made at conferences and may not be accurate. Moreover, to save space, we have decided, in general, not to cite the sources of this point of view, and we hope that the reader will forgive us.
