This paper presents Exhaustif®, a SWIFI fault injection tool for fault tolerance verification and the validation of embedded software in distributed heterogeneous systems. Exhaustif® mainly consists of two parts: EEM and FIK. Exhaustif® Executive Manager (EEM) is a GUI Java application to define the fault injection campaign that uses a SQL database to save the test results obtained from the System under Test (SUT) in order to carry out a post injection data analysis. FIK is under the command of EEM to cary out fault injections in applications running under diverse operating systems using pure SWIFI techniques. Exhaustif® carries out floating point register and memory corruptions using temporary triggers and uses an optimized routine interception mechanism to carry out argument and return value corruption with a minimal time overhead. Two experimental Fault Injector Kernels (FIK) under the RTEMS operating system for an EADS-Astrium SPARC ERC32-based MCM processor board and i386 standard PC mainboard have been developed.

The use of present pedagogical methods and Information and Communication Technologies produce a new quality that favors the task of generating, transmitting and sharing knowledge. That is the case of the pedagogical effect that produces the use of the Concept Maps, which are considered a learning technique as a way to increase meaningful learning in the sciences. It is also used for the knowledge management as an aid to personalize the learning process, to exchange knowledge, and to learn how to learn. Concept Mapping provides a framework for making this internal knowledge explicit in a visual form that can easily be examined and shared. Concept Maps are relevant since they can be retrieved or adapted to new problems. In the other hand, Case-Based Reasoning as a technique in Artificial Intelligence plays an important role in knowledge retrieval and reuse of memories. In this paper the authors present a new approach to elaborate Intelligent Teaching/Learning Systems, where the techniques of Concept Maps and Artificial Intelligence are combined, using the Case-Based Reasoning as theoretical framework for the Student Model. The proposed model has been implemented in the computational system HESEI, which has been successfully used in the teaching/learning process by laymen in the Computer Science field.

The first's library projects occur some years ago with digitization, but just in 1996, the first's web archive initiatives start occurring. Such, was based in the Internet growth and in its increasing use, items that revealed to be an opportunity to transform and readapt the traditional library services. In this context, search engines play a fundamental role of support to the new paradigm of knowledge, by capturing, storing and providing access to the resources, allowing the existence of a digital library in each computer with internet access. In this article we analyze the ways of developing a digital library, taking higher attention to the web harvesting technique, and presenting digital libraries capabilities and limitations. Then we fully summarize relevant projects and initiatives, to finally study the role of search engines in what concerns to, digital preservation, access and information diffusion.

The operation of electrical transmission substations is a field of potential development of systems focused on process optimization. This has motivated the design and implementation of a training system for the electrical substations operators using knowledge based ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) systems to offer tools that identify skillful actions and abilities required. This document offers a contribution to new training process alternatives supported in simulation techniques and Artificial Intelligence to encourage the active, meaningful and assisted learning, the self assessment and the acquisition of abilities for the electrical transmission substation operation.

In this paper we present techniques for selecting one's current location in mobile location-based systems. We present Locawe (Location-aware System Platform) and four alternative location selection techniques, which are physical selection using RFID technology, automatic selection based on GPS coordinates, selection from a mobile map with a stylus, and a textual selection technique involving a virtual keyboard and a selection list. These techniques have been tested in real mobile applications.

Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS) allow an adaptation of the instructional strategy to the student. The ITS that operate with the Problem Based Learning (PBL) educative paradigm need to model the domain and the solution. It will allow determining which learning activity the student has to do next in an adaptive learning process. This paper is centered on those ITS oriented to the teaching of algorithm programming. A proposal that makes use of fuzzy logic applied to a set of metric characteristics of an algorithm will be shown, with the purpose of obtaining a fuzzy representation. Thus, it can be used to analyze the algorithms written by the students, as solutions to the problems presented.

Component decision and validation using political and analytical models are applicable in creating the foundation of component-based enterprise architecture. This research deals with both political and analytical models to take the results from the group decision for further development. We demonstrate how to use analysis and modeling techniques to produce the common component and service aggregation which is the foundation of enterprise integration. Decision input from human factors plays a crucial role in component-based design. We have extended the focus of the methods and techniques to component decision in supporting enterprise integration and ontology interoperability, to follow the nature of business performance. As we believe human interactivity in this early analysis and pre-design stage plays a key role in the integration's success, we have assessed the feasibility and received the consensus of the pre-design stage of industry.

The goal of our research is to support the sharing of stories with digital photographs. Some map sites are now collecting stories associated with peoples' relationships to places. Users are mapping collections of places including intangible emotional associations of places along with photographs, videos. Though this framework of mapping stories is important for accelerating individual creation and transmission of map content, it is not expressive enough to communicate stories narratively. For example, especially when the number of the mapped collections of places is large, it is not easy for viewers to read the map, and it is not easy for creators to express stories as series of events in the real world. That is because one narrative story in a form of a sequence of text narrations, a sequence of photographs, a movie, and an audio like podcasting, etc. is mapped to just one point. As a result, it's up to the viewers which point on the map to read, and in what order. The common framework is rather suitable for mapping and expressing fragments or snapshots of a whole story, and not suitable for expressing a whole story narratively by using a whole area of a map as the setting of the story. We therefore propose a new framework for mapping personal photo collections and constructing them as stories such as route guidances, sightseeing guidances, historical topics, fieldwork records, personal diaries, and so on. We named this framework as spatial slideshow. A spatial slideshow is a fusion of personal photo mapping and photo storytelling. Each story of a spatial slideshow is made of a sequence of mapped photographs, and presented as synchronized animations of a map and an enhanced photo slideshow. The main technical suggestion of this paper is a method for creating a three-dimensional animation of photo image which has a visual effect of moving from photo to photo. We have developed a personal photo album software and released it on the Web, which works as an editor and a browser of spatial slideshows. We assume the proposed framework has a significance of helping with grassroots development of spatial content driven by visual communications about places or events in the real world.

In this work the UFSC (Federal University of Santa Catarina) and the FGV-RJ (Fundação Getúlio Vargas do Rio de Janeiro) jointly propose the use of a data mining tool to support the analysis of trends, students profiles, as well as to estimate or foresee the usability level of courses being offered, via Moodle, in the Education area. The study carried out by UFSC on the Moodle database allowed a deep understanding of its database, thus making it easier for the Moodle community to execute important tasks, such as the maintenance of the Moodle database, its adaptation following an institutional customization, and, also, a data mart project by the FGV-Online Program to make the necessary analysis possible. In the end of this paper, an example on its applicability is presented, using the association rules technique. Once a data mart oriented to the analysis of the system's usability is developed, various analyses with different objectives can be executed using the database. Some may use the method proposed here or others, including different data mining approaches, such as clustering, neural networks etc. As such, a new contribution is given to the Moodle community.

This is a study on the use of internet. The objective is to demonstrate that currently, the internet is mostly used in human-human interaction. A systematic review is conducted and studies are presented. However, the difficulty in this type of research and the complex characteristics of the internet analyzed from the perspective of human-human interaction make the results, even when they are not favorable, valid for the specification of future work.
