In the light of today's high traffic volume, it is crucial to anticipate the traffic flow on traffic lights controlled intersections. Without this knowledge, it would be impossible to control the traffic in complicated hubs, such as, for instance, those in Prague. One of the characteristics, through which we can describe dynamics of vehicle movement on traffic lights controlled intersections, is the interval between departure of a vehicle from the space in front of the stop line and the arrival to the actual stop line. This is called a departure model. Our aim is, first, to create an appropriate mathematical application, which would take into account individual variables influencing departure of individual vehicles and determine the dependence among these variables. Second to create such a departure model, which would, on one hand, correspond as much as possible to the contemporary traffic situations, but on the other hand, be more exact for specific intersections.

This paper presents different viewpoints of architecture of traffic and travel information (TTI) system based on protocol TPEG. During the identification of the information architecture, several formats (binary or XML) and location description methods (AGORA-C or TMC) possible within TPEG TTI message were analyzed. After this initial analysis, description of functional viewpoints of the system and its implementation architecture is discussed, proposing infrastructure for distributing TTI over digital radio broadcasting and Internet using TPEG formats and protocols. The paper is summarized with possible deployment scenarios in the Czech Republic and their organizational aspects, taking into account existing traffic information centers and their dissemination activities.

The processing of medical images within a PACS system depends on high capacity of communication channels and high performance of computational resources. We introduce pilot project utilizing grid technology to distribute functionality of PACS system to several machines located in distant places which allows economizing utilization of network channels. We also discuss benefits and disadvantages of virtualization techniques allowing to separate physical machine capabilities from the operating system. We compare this pilot project utilizing high speed CESNET 2 network with similar mature projects based mainly on P2P secure connection, centralized system and proprietary protocols.

The evolution of the population pyramid in developed countries, with an increasing proportion of aged people introduces new challenges to the public and private assistance services. A form of improving these services while keeping controlled the associated costs is to use remote continuous assistance. Wireless sensors allow obtaining real-time information of health parameters in a non-intrusive way. The determination of alert values for these parameters and the computing possibilities of the current mobile devices can facilitate a faster intervention which will minimize risks linked to delays in medical assistance. However, the diversity of risk situations is a factor that increases costs as many similar but not exactly identical products will be necessary now and in the future. We aim to solve this problem using an approach of software product lines, as multiple options can be easily incorporated to each final product implementation. This article presents the product line generic architecture and some examples of application, using wireless sensors connected to a central station by means of a smart phone, which is able to detect alarm situations.

This paper presents a system concept design and demonstration for e-care application to connect patients' physical data into doctors' personal computer for remote consultancy. An e-Care System is focused on chronic and geriatric patients for their physical data sensing and remote monitoring, as well as other care applications. Based on adopting mobile communication, data acquisition is connecting onto doctor's computer in real time via Internet access. System configuration is proposed and designed. Case studies on asthma and heart chronic data are tested and reported under location-based monitor implementation.

Since 1995 there is a project called "SmartRoad" running at TUDelft. The goal of the project is to design ICT solutions for traffic control and warning systems. In this paper we focus on dynamic routing systems. New in this project is that car drivers communicate with each other via an intelligent system implemented on the network of lamppost. By tracking individual car drivers the system gets real time information of traffic speed along the roads. Next a dynamic routing algorithm has been designed, which uses the dynamic traffic speed along road segments. The Ant Based Control (ABC-) routing algorithm is based on ideas from artificial life and computes the shortest traveling time from start to destination. A simulation environment has been implemented and experimental results of static and dynamic routing will be presented in this paper.

The paper first briefly discusses the current situation in the field of ICT standardisation, with a certain focus on Europe. Here, the perceived diminishing influence of Europe in the international standards arena has led to first (minor) initiatives by the European Commission, aiming at changes in their ICT standardisation policy. Some options currently under discussion are addressed.
