This study discusses the evolution of the Serbian part of Tisa (Tisza/Theiss) valley in the context of phase meandering process during the Late Pleniglacial and Holocene. This study is focused on the subsiding central part of the Pannonian (Carpathian) Basin in the Vojvodina province. Palaeomeanders are reconstructed by using digital elevation models. Large number of old river beds are eroded and filled with deposits, and only a few remainings of them can be found on modern maps. The identification of these channels were achieved by studying historical maps of the region, and by creation of a digital elevation model. Spatial disposal and altitude correlation allowed identification of several palaeomeander generations in the Tisa valley. The formation of different generations are the result of concurrence influences of neo-tectonic processes of subduction in the western part of the Great Hungarian Plain and climate variability during the Late Pleistocene and Holocene. Studying hydro-geomorphologic characteristics of meanders is based on determination and analysis of their characteristic parameters: wavelength, arc length and radius of curvature.

Spatial-functional influence of sub regional center Prijepolje affects mostly three municipalities: Prijepolje, Priboj and Nova Varos. This influence reflects on transformation of settlements caused by urbanization and industrialization on one, and deagrarization and depopulation on the other side. In this paper, demographic and functional components, which determinate development of settlements in this area and structure of population and settlements, have been analyzed. They brought to differentiation areas on three urban centers, three per urban ring and rural surroundings. Decentralization of this area has been done to the model of villages groups which are derived from concentration of functions and locations of public-social objects in settlements. On this model functional organization and hierarchy of nodal center has been deducted in this area.

The Duboka drains the eastern side of Kopaonik Mountain. Geomorphology and geology of the area indicate, and the office and field researches confirm, that the Duboka was formerly in the Rasina basin and now belongs to the Toplica system. A minor Toplica tributary captured the Duboka headwater and diverted it into its drainage system. Capturing and captured s of the two systems are a geomorphologic rarity; the headwaters of the Rasina are diverted into the Toplica system, and the middle course of the Toplica (Blatasnica) captures the Rasina.

Exploitation, development and primary extraction of the minerals result in release of the harmful substances, e.g. heavy metals, toxic gases, dirt, etc, that are often uncontrolled deposit in the environment. Those deposited and overlooked substances remain as a heritage and challenge for the coming generations that would involve abundant human, technical and financial resources for the environmental reclamation. The mining activities of the Trepca - RIF Kopaonik has both positive and negative influences within the Leposavic municipality, i.e., industrial development and environmental degradation. As a result of the mining activities the air, land and water resources both surface and underground are severely polluted. The main objective of this paper is to present adverse effects of the mineral resources (lead and zinc) exploitation and primary extraction on the Ibar River water quality degradation mainly by heavy metals. Since the heavy metals are frequently ingested by the people through the food chain and given the high toxicity of them they are crucial parameters for the water quality monitoring practices that should be carefully assessed and controlled. Thus this paper includes comprehensive analyses of the heavy metals concentration (Pb, Zn, Cu, Cd and Fe) in the Ibar River within the Leposavic municipality.

Fringe areas of urban regions increasingly occupy the attention of contemporary urban-geographic research. The focus of this paper are rural settlements of suburban space, from the aspect of their demographic and functional transformations. One of the scientific goals is to point - through populational and demo-social indicators - to the impact and spread of urban transition from the periurban to the rural zone, which means spreading of (Belgrade) urban region as well. The first part of the paper defines the rural-urban belt as a complex physical space with complementary social, economical and spatial elements. The second part of the paper is a case study of villages in the northern part of Belgrade metropolitan area (on administrative territory of Vojvodina province), which will point to demo-functional indicators of recent urban transition. Transition of periurban space can be spatially reflected as changes in land use, e.g. transformation into periurban agricultural area. Methods for estimation of the level of urban and functional development of the mentioned rural settlements will be applied in the paper. The results will show that the group of the studied rural settlements demo- functionally fits into Belgrade urban region. Closeness of big city is, undoubtedly, starting device of great transformations. Each settlement which exists in its vicinity succumbs to its influences, and area between the city and village is the area of intense inter-actions and transformations. City effect onto surrounding area singled out zones which were differentiated depending on closeness to central settlement. So, the zones within periurbia can be mutually recognized according to degree of functional relations' development, character of changes in population's profesional structure, intensity of daily migrations, degree of agrarian soil transformation, etc. Area in which there are no urban influences or in which they are in the scope that doesn't disturb neither agrarian landscape nor agrarian function, is in scientific terminology known as rural continum. It is not static area because "urban tissue springs up, spreads and bites into remains of agrarian life" by penetration of urban elements (Lefevr, 1974). Agrarian zone is being shaped under urban influences, gets heterogeneous spatial structure and modifies itself into rural-

One balneological resource of extraordinary value, to which the town of Sandanski owes its existence, are the mineral waters. Within the whole region their total discharge is estimated at 65 1/s while for the town of Sandanski only it is about 25 1/s. Their temperature varies from 33°C to 88°C and the mineral content in them is poor - 0.78-1.02 g/1. That is why diseases can be treated both by drinking the water and by bathing. Besides its diverse natural scenery the Sandanski spa is famous for its important historical events. Melnik is a real monument of the Bulgarian culture. It is designated as a cultural and historical reserve and a museum town and has got the status of a unique settlement of international importance for economic tourism.

In the contemporary concept of nature preservation, the preservation of geodiversity slowly becomes normative, although geodiversity is still considered as a geotope in the function of biotope. Because of that it was analyzed geodiversity in the protected areas and the areas earmarked for protection in the Western Backa Danube Region, in refer to five municipalities along the Danube (Sombor, Apatin, Odžaci, Bac and Backa Palanka). Selected area is recognized by two protected natural assets - special nature reserve 'Gornje Podunavlje' (Upper Danube Basin) and 'Karađorđevo' represent unique wetland of flood plains in the Danube Region. Within the scope of its main values, it hasn't been selected many localities that are typical for plain morphology. Within the scope of geodiversity of the region, 11 sites belong to the potentially protected areas, differing in type, genesis and morphology. A better approach to their evaluation can be achieved by a local action plan for geodiversity.
