Studies of Urea‐assisted Wool Dyeing 尿素辅助羊毛染色的研究

Cut segments of wool, as well as whole fibres, have been immersed, under standard conditions, in concentrated aqueous urea. The diameter of each fibre or segment was then determined and compared with that of a control. No swelling occurred with whole fibres, but swelling was observed with the segments, the extent of swelling, in a given time, being inversely proportional to the length of the cut segment. The swelling of cut fibres increased with the time of immersion in concentrated aqueous urea. It is concluded that urea diffused into the cut ends of wool fibres, but that the epicuticle, if intact, is impervious to urea.

The Relation of the Reflectance of Dyed Fabrics to Dye Concentration and the Instrumental Approach to Colour Matching 染色织物反射率与染料浓度的关系及配色的仪器方法

The factors governing the reflectance of light by a dyed fabric are discussed, and several theories relating this factor to dye concentration are noted. They may all be reduced approximately to simple reciprocal functions of reflectance. Special reference is made to a theoretical treatment, similar to that given by Kubelka and Munk, for conditions of normal illumination (such as prevail in a spectrophotometer), and the use of this theory in the prediction of matching recipes is illustrated with reference to a simple laboratory instrument.

Circulating fluids through materials.-Hanks are carried on a frame, forming a more or less solid block of material, one or more charged frames being lowered into a vat. for example two in a double vat; the blocks of hanks are oscillated while the treating liquor is circulated through them. The double vat A may be formed by two parallel partitions D and is provided with the usual circulating - means P, P , P , which is fed from the space between the partitions D, and which feeds the parts of the containing - portions of the vat A below false bottoms A , or vice versa. The frames or cages C are suspended from arms B connected to rising and falling arms B , levers B , and eccentric gear B which provides vertical and, if desired, also horizontal oscillation of the frames.

The Calculation of Diffusion Parameters for Diffusion‐controlled Dyeing from a Finite Bath 有限槽扩散控制染色扩散参数的计算

Diffusion coefficients for diffusion-controlled dyeings from a finite bath can be obtained either by using approximations to the Wilson equation, thus making calculation of such values simpler and less tedious, or by accurate computation of the original equation. Using the second method, reference tables have been produced which enable values of the diffusion coefficient to be obtained from dyebath-exhaustion values.
