SUMMARY D ʼ Aguilar virus (DAGV) that is an arthropod-borne virus suspected of being involved in bovine abnormal births, has been confirmed the domestic spread of infection mainly in the Kyushu-Okinawa region. Serological surveillance of DAGV was conducted using serum samples collected from 498 sentinel cattle in Kyoto Prefecture between 2005 and 2018. Neutralization antibodies against DAGV were detected in 17 cattle tested in 2013, 2017, and 2018. A DAGV-specific gene was amplified from the blood samples of 10 seropositive cattle tested in 2017 and 2018, and the virus was isolated from four of them that were collected in 2017. In Japan, this is the first detection of DAGV outside of the Kyushu-Okinawa region.

SUMMARY Castration surgery was conducted on a 16-month-old Chihuahua diagnosed with bilateral cryptorchidism. Gross examination of the intra-abdominal and inguinal subcutaneous tissue revealed an atrophic testis in the subcutis of the right inguinal region, while only the spermatic cord, with its distal end being blind, was observed on the left side. Histopathologic examination revealed the presence of the epididymis, pampiniform plexus, and atrophic testicular parenchyma with a reduced number of seminiferous tubules that did not contain germ cells on the right side. In the left spermatic cord, only the vas deferens was histologically identified; testicular parenchyma or epididymis was undetectable. From these results, this case was diagnosed as vanishing testis, the term used for classification of monorchid testis in humans.

SUMMARY A female 5-year 7-month old French Bulldog was presented to our hospital, and a right adrenal mass was inci-dentally detected during diagnostic imaging. The diameter of mass was > 20 mm on the images, and a tumor thrombus-like structure was identified in the caudal vena cava. We diagnosed the adrenal grand mass as a benign tumor using endocrinologic and two contrast-enhanced computed tomography examinations. Surgical resection was performed, considering the risk of complications due to the mass in the caudal vena cava. Histo-pathological examinations of the surgical specimen revealed that the adrenal grand mass and the mass in the caudal vena cava were lymphocytic adrenal medullitis and thrombosis, respectively. Neither of the masses showed neoplastic changes. After surgery, although a small clot was found in the caudal vena cava, the patient had a good outcome and was asymptomatic. However, the patient died because of an unrelated disease 290 days after the first visit. ─ 〜
