˚ ABSTRACT: To determine the role of vitamin D (VD) in the development and treatment of oral lichen planus (OLP). An exploratory systematic review was carried out during April of 2021 using the databases Pubmed / Medline, Ebsco and Scopus / Elsevier. The terms "Oral lichen planus" and "Vitamin studies magnitude of the deficit is described. Finally, supplementation with VD as an adjuvant arises as an alternative for the reduction of symptoms, given the role of VD in immune processes and reports of improvements in OLP symptoms with its use. Patients diagnosed with OLP have insufficient levels of serum VD compared to healthy patients. Micronutrient deficiency is related to an exaggerated inflammatory response and alterations in the immune system. VD supplementation in patients with OLP would be beneficial as an adjunct to corticosteroid treatment in severe cases. However, the limited evidence makes it necessary to carry out more clinical studies to reaffirm the effectiveness of VD as a complementary treatment for OLP.

A methodological innovation is carried out in the teaching-learning process of oral radiology in the Dentistry career of the Universidad de los Andes, an Oral Radiology course was implemented with the b-learning modality in the 6th year 2018, based on on the Moodle platform. This intervention does not constitute a curricular change, but only a methodological one. It was evaluated whether b-learning is an effective methodology for the teaching-learning process in the oral radiology course of the 6th year of Dentistry at the Universidad de los Andes. The scores obtained in a final summative test by the study group (b-learning) were compared with those obtained by the control group (traditional methodology applied the previous 5 years). The perception of the students regarding the b-learning methodology was assessed, for which a survey was applied that considers 4 variables: comprehension, time occupied, motivation and the moderating role of the teacher. The students with the blearning modality obtained significantly higher grades than the students who followed the same course with the faceto-face modality. The students who worked with the blearning modality declared themselves satisfied with the blearning approach to learn oral radiology in the 6th year of Dentistry at the Universidad de los Andes. 95.5% indicated that this methodology motivates their learning and 100% would recommend it to a colleague. 97.7% of the students indicated that the b-learning methodology allows them to have timely help from the teacher and 95.5% that the teacher's actions facilitated their learning. B-learning is an effective methodology for the teaching-learning process in the oral radiology course. The students with the b-learning modality obtained significantly higher grades than the students who followed the same course with the face-toface modality. The students declare themselves satisfied with the b-learning approach.

Dental caries constitute a significant public health problem due to its high prevalence, negative impact on individuals and society’s oral and systemic health, in addition to the high cost of treatment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the CERO program of “CESFAM Dr. Alberto Reyes”, from the commune of Tomé. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted, with a sample of 100 % of the children admitted to the CERO program, who were affiliated to the “CESFAM Dr. Alberto Reyes” from the commune of Tomé in 2018. A secondary database was reviewed corresponding to “Resúmenes Estadísticos Mensuales” (Monthly Statistical Summaries) of medical attentions and/or population under control, which is forwarded to the “Departamento de Estadísticas e Información en Salud” (Statistics and Health Information Department) by establishments and/or strategies under structural defined codes. According to results, males represent 51 %, and females 49 % of the sample. The ages with a higher number of admissions are 6 years old, representing 25 %, and 4 years old children, who almost reach 20 %. The least representing ages are 1 and 5 years old, with values lower than 10 %. It is necessary to approach this disease with a modification of the paradigm in the management of dental caries as an illness process, managing more efficiently the preventative measures aimed individually to each patient, proposing the management of dental caries through risk assessment as the CERO program does.

The year 2020 will be remembered as the year in which the Covid 19 pandemic precipitated an unprecedented major disruption in the healthcare system, which led to a period of greater appreciation and expansion for Telemedicine. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Telemedicine is defined as the use of telecommunications and virtual technologies to provide health outside traditional health facilities (Dasgupta & Deb, 2008; Telles-Araujo et al., 2020; Tunc et al., 2021).

subdural and ABSTRACT: Extensive fractures in the fixed facial skeleton combined with traumatic brain injury can cause functional and esthetic impairments, possibly threatening the patient’s life. Male patient, 50-year-old, victim of physical aggression, presented with persistent headache and dizziness, fractures in the naso-orbito-ethmoidal, zygomatic-maxillary and right pterygoid process regions, among other minor patterns of facial fracture, with mobility to maxillary traction of the third midface unilaterally. Clinical-imaging findings revealed a Hemi Le Fort III fracture and subdural and subarachnoid pneumocephalus with a mild Mount Fuji Sign. The proposed treatment was facial osteosynthesis and conservative intravenous drug treatment of the pneumocephalus. The patient had a good recovery, with no postoperative motor or functional deficits. The correct management of the patient with facial trauma associated with craniotrauma offers benefits, restoring stability of facial architecture and preventing or correcting neurosurgical complications.

ABSTRACT: Hybrid verrucous carcinoma (HVC) is defined as a rare neoplasm in which there is histopathological evidence of verrucous carcinoma and microscopic foci of squamous cell carcinoma, synchronously in the same site, affecting behavior and prognosis. This study aimed to present a new case of HVC in the mouth, and critically and comparatively analyze the cases reported in literature, to better understand the biological behavior and contribute to diagnostic precision. A review was performed using six databases, and the gray literature. Twenty-two articles were selected, with a total of 280 cases. The most frequent clinical appearance was verrucous carcinoma which included benign lesions. This implies that the potential for aggressive behavior can be detected microscopically, in the form of a ruptured basement membrane, which visualization can be facilitated by the use of some immunohistochemical markers discussed here. This is important for the diagnosis of HVC and adequate treatment. Hybrid verrucous carcinoma is what can be thought of as “a wolf in sheep's clothing.” When analyzing cases with clinical suspicion of verrucous carcinoma microscopically, great attention is recommended, since they may be HVC and can recur, metastasize, and lead to death.
