The effect of restricted feeding through a longer time period on the performance parameters and carcasses’ qualitative traits of the fattening rabbits was studied. 42 rabbits of six weeks old were grouped into three identical groups. The rabbits under the control group were fed ad libitum, while the ones under the two other groups (experimental groups) were fed through some feeding time restrictions, as the following: (7 hours/day) during the two and three first weeks of fattening respectively. Afterwards, up to the age of 18 weeks, all of them were fed ad libitum again. At the end of the trial, it was concluded that both the body weight and daily gain were statistically not influenced by the time duration of the restricted feeding. Although the second group of experiment showed a substantial daily feed intake (p ≤ 0.01), non significant effects on the feed conversion rate was demonstrated. Feed restriction time for two and three weeks didn’t show the same effect on the carcasses’ parameters. Parallel with the slaughtering age increase, the live weight, the carcass weight, the meat yield and abdominal fat were all increased (p ≤ 0.01), but the percentage of the internal organs vs. the total carcass weight was lower.

This experiment was designed to evaluate the effect of different doses of Bulgarian product Vemoherb-T (dry extract of Tribulus terrestris) on egg production, serum level of testosterone and histological structure of gonads and kidneys in Japanese quail. In the experiment a total of 52 female and 16 male Japanese quail from Pharaon breed at the initial age of 44 days were involved. Quails were randomly divided in control and three experimental groups, 13 female and 4 male in each. Experimental groups received with the drink water the tested product in following daily doses: 4 mg/kg body weight (10 weeks); 10 mg/kg body weight (the first 5 weeks of the trial); 10 mg/kg body weight (10 weeks) for I st , II nd , III rd treated groups respectively. A significant increase of ovary weight in quails from III rd experimental group (P < 0.01) in comparison with the control was measured. Egg production in II nd and III rd treated groups increased significantly (P < 0.01) than the control group. Testosterone level of males from III rd experimental group enhanced significantly (P < 0.05; P < 0.01) than other groups. The ovary core part of females from III rd experimental group contained a much lower number of mature follicles in comparison to the other groups and its central medulla was highly vascularized. Tribulus terrestris extract in a dose of 10 mg/kg stimulates the production of male reproductive cells, while the dose of 4 mg/kg caused a delay of spermatozoa production. Histological analysis showed that in all experimental groups the structure of the kidneys was preserved and that the higher doses lead to certain reduction of the parenchyma.

In the investigation utilized 800 head of Pirot improved sheep during two lactation numbers (I and II) and two lactation seasons: I – winter, and II – summer. Investigated the influence of some factors on milk yield, fat content, protein content, pH value, SCC (somatic cell count) and CFU (total number of microorganismis). Control of milk yield was carried out by the AC method (ICAR, 2005). It was ascertained a significant impact (P 0.05). Total number of microorganisms (CFU) also did not depend on the number of lactation (P > 0.05). Sheep in the second season had a higher milk yield for 6.75 kg (P < 0.05) and higher total number of microorganisms (P < 0.01). Somatic cells in milk was also higher during the season II (P < 0.01).

This paper presents the influence of the lactate on the microbiological and sensory properties of semi-durable sausage. The addition of lactate a favorably affect the microbiological picture of the total number of bacteria and the sensory properties of semi-durable sausage. The addition of lactate preserved the sensory properties of the treated samples with lactate and their extended period of use.

The presence of phenolic compounds in the milk and cheese is a result of their transfer from plant to milk and can affect their antioxidant activity. The objective of this work is to make a survey of the prevalence of the total phenolic compounds (TPC) in certain stages during cheese ripening as well as to determinate their final concentration in mature cheese. The obtained results show differences in the content of TPC between cheese samples from two batches (1 and 2). During the cheese ripening and after the dry salting and brining decreasing in the content of TPC has been noticed in both cheese batches. This is a result of number of chemical and enzymatic reactions as well as the high concentration of NaCl that inhibits the phenolic compounds to react with Folin reagent.
