The antigenic properties of capsid proteins of potato virus Y (PVY) strains have been studied, the most wide antigenic specificity of necrotic group strains has been marked. Several antigen-active strains of necrotic group strains (PVY-N Far East, PVY-N Leningrad, PVY-N Moscow) and common group (PVY-O-3 Moscow, PVY-O Far East) have been revealed. Antisera against these strains reacted with any PVY strain. Virus specific surface epitope, corresponding to position 198-208 of polypeptide chain has been located, which is a group-specific epitope of potyviruses, identified in the Far East.

The rural population of Khakassia is characterized by genetic isolation due to marital traditions and ethnic-territorial subdivisions. The type of Khakass settling limits the choice of a marital partner within the territory occupied by one ethnographic group, preventing an active migration of alleles from one population to another. Formation of local zonal anthropologic type (84% of marital couples) occurs on the territory approximately equal to the area of one administrative district.

The effect of long-term application of ethanol on the biochemical composition of rat bile has been studied. These results have been compared with the changes of activity of hepatic microsomal enzymes and ultrastructure of hepatocytes. The changes of biliary lipid synthesis and secretion have been shown to reflect the change of microsomal metabolic functions and to be accompanied by liver destruction processes.

On rats and dogs exposed to absolute lethal doses of X-irradiation (rats--10, 12 Gy; dogs--15 Gy sublethally) it has been shown that novocaini injection to animals immediately after radiation exposure reduces the primary radiation reaction and at the same time shifts the changes in morphofunctional state of peripheric blood on 24 hours, reduces the symptoms of acute radiation sickness, increases the average life length of the animals on 1,5 days. A conclusion concerning the expressed therapeutic influence of intraperitoneal novocaini injection immediately after radiation has been drawn.

The acetylthiocholine-hydrolyzing enzymatic activity inhibited by the neostigmine and partly physostigmine has been found in extracts from mycelium of fungus Aspergillus niger. The enzyme has been isolated and 15-20 fold purified. The cholinesterase activity of the protein (Kmu 7.10-7 M) is comparable with known for analogous enzymes from higher plants, for its inhibition high concentrations of substrate (greater than 10-3M) are required. The enzyme hydrolyzes acetylthiocholine with rate approximately 1.5 times higher than butyrylthiocholine. Molecular mass of native protein is approximately 600 kDa, subunits -63 and 44 kDa.

The results of laboratory experiments of humic matter influence on toxic resistance of Daphnia magna to zinc and copper using water samples from a few Karelia water bodies are presented. The increasing of humic matter content in water samples has been shown to promote the binding of a part of metals in organic complexes that leads to decrease of their toxicity for hydrobionts.

The analysis of action of physiologically active peat substances--a complex of humic acids is given. Using the pharmaco-biological tests and modelling of the diseases a high antitoxic effect of sodium humate and possibility to use it in medicine, veterinary science and animal husbandry as nonspecific pharmacy raising the organism resistance to the action of different unfavourable factors is proved.

The effect of R- and Hly-plasmid differing in phenotype, molecular size, conjugativity, stability and incompatibility properties on the cell cycle and nucleic acids content per cell has been studied in Escherichia coli. According to these properties the plasmids were divided into 3 categories. The possibilities of the autonomous plasmid replicon interactions with the host chromosome are discussed.
