The antioxidative properties of drugs--diethylcarbamazine citrate--DECC, dipyridamole-DP, levamisole and labinzarit--have been investigated in various microsomal lipid peroxidation (LPO) models: NADPH-, ascorbate- and CCl4-dependent. The most strong antioxidant of direct action turned out to be DP, DECC exhibited the antioxidative properties as a result of metabolic activity in monooxygenases system of rat liver microsomes. Levamisole and labinzarit turned out to be weak antioxidants. The control of microsomal membrane stability against Fe(2+)-ADP, NADPH-induced LPO, after being isolated from rat liver after the action of CCl4 without and with DECC, showed that DECC protected microsomal membranes from CCl4 in vivo and they remained stable against LPO in vitro.

The inhibitory effect of peat humic acids on the hydrolysis of N-acetyl-L-tyrosine ethyl ester and N-benzoyl-L-leucine methyl ester by alpha-chymotrypsin and subtilism has been studied. Samples of humic acids with M(W) approximately 18,000 have been used in experiments. The results of kinetic studies indicates the mixed type of inhibition of proteinase activity by humic acids. The meanings of inhibition constants under the action of humic acids on alpha-chymotrypsin and subtilism have been calculated.

The modern state, general methodologic problems and the possibilities to use in biological research the dot enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (dot-ELISA) are analysed in the review. New types of microporous polymer membranes and equipment for the application of the solid-phase reagent and performing the assay are considered. Different variants of dot-ELISA and methods for the evaluation of results obtained in the assay as well as the ways for its optimization are discussed.

The experience of sampling of fish tissues for chlororganic pesticides (COP) content or its metabolites is generalized. The greatest quantity of these substances concentrate in brain and liver tissues and in brain tissues the pesticides accumulate during all the period of ontogenesis, but in liver - only during last months of active feeding period. According to the difference in pesticide content in fish tissues in spring and autumn we can localize the source of COP contamination of water fauna and terrestrial ecosystems of different protected areas possessing water bodies. It has been demonstrated on example of white fishes sensitive to COP and inhabiting the northern regions of Hallarctic as well as on sazan - a representative of ichthyofauna of the river Vakhsh in a deserted reserve the "Tiger's Walley".

The microsomal cytochrome content and enzyme activity has been determined in liver, kidney, lungs and intestinal mucous from guinea pig males which were injected 25% ethanol intraperitoneally at a dose of 2 g per 1 kg of body mass. The changes in cytochrome P-450 and b5 content, amidopyrine-N-demethylase, aniline hydroxylase, p-nitrophenol hydroxylase. NADP.H-cytochrome-c-reductase activities in investigated organs of the animals have been found depending on the ethanol intoxication period (for 3, 6 or 14 days). Changes of the same type in microsomal enzyme activities have been discovered in liver, lungs and intestine, but not in kidney that is accounted for the substrate specificity and inducibility of the cytochrome P-450 some forms in extrahepatic tissues.

The effect of copper ions and insulin on the rate of DNA, RNA and protein synthesis, and on the growth dynamics of Tetrahymena pyriformis cells, and also joint action of Cu2+ and insulin on these processes has been investigated. The effect of Cu2+ after 6-fold action of heat shock (34 degrees C) on the cell culture has been studied. The results obtained indicate that significant reconstructions of the infusoria cell functioning conditions caused by various reasons re of great importance in the adaptation mechanisms to such stress factors as heavy metals.

The data on evoked potentials (EP) in the frog primordial hippocampus during the surface application of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), beta-alanine and aminooxyacetic acid in the region of EP recording are presented. These results in the aggregate with the earlier described effects of picrotoxin, bicuculline, muscimol, baclofen (on EP) and GABA (on intracellular potentials) permit to suggest the presence of GABA-ergic inhibitory system and two types of GABA receptors in the frog primordial hippocampus.
