Abstract Organic thin film transistors were fabricated using pentacene and organic gate insulator on the glass substrates. Polyimide and photo-acryl were used as a gate insulator respectively. We investigated transfer and output characteristics of the thin film transistors(TFT's) having active layer of pentacene. We calculated field effect mobility and on/off ratio from transfer characteristics of pentacene TFT's, and measured IR absorption spectrum of polyimide used as gate insulator.

Abstract In this paper, we describe a new approach for an arrangement of many kinds of DNAs on transducers to construct a DNA microarray. A high-density array of sensor probes was prepared by randomly distributing a mixture of particles immobilized with various DNAs. A process for immobilization of the DNAs was separated from the assembly of the particles. The particles were arranged on the chip pattern by random fluidic self-assembly, using hydrophobic interaction.

Abstract Annealing dewetted films of smectic polymers in their mesophase, a peculiar surface structure was observed by polarizing microscopy and atomic force microscopy. The surface structure, which develops independent from the substrate, consists of micron-size shallow dimples that are a few nanometer in depth. The lateral spacing of the dimples, which arrange in a hexagonal lattice, is directly proportional to the thickness of the dot. Based up on in situ video imaging of the dimple formation dynmic a mechanism is proposed.

Abstract Star-shaped polycaprolactones (PCL) with 4- or 5-arms were synthesized to be used as a porogen for nanoporous dielectric materials. Methylsilsesquioxane (MSSQ) was used as an inorganic matrix. Miscibility with MSSQ strongly depended on the molecular weight of the porogens used. Dielectric constants of the nanoporous thin films were measured using MIS cell configuration.

Abstract The multilayers structures of silver nanoparticles passivated with a fatty acid are investigated by means of X-ray reflectivity (XR) measurement. A distinct “quasi-Bragg reflection” peak appears at the position corresponding to the layer distance. From the calculation, it is found that the layer distance is slightly smaller than the diameter of the nanoparticle.

Abstract The effect of subphase pH on the surface pressure-area isotherms and the variation of transfer ratio according to the stroke number were investigated for the monolayers of ω -tricosenyl alcohol and ω - tricosenoic acid. The monolayer of ω -tricosenyl alcohol showed more stable spreading behaviors and more efficient deposition than that of ω tricosenoic acid.

Abstract The photo-alignment with the linear-polarized UV (LP-UV) light was applied to the surface modified polyimide film with chalcone derivatives for the vertical alignment of liquid crystal molecules. The LP-UV light irradiation caused either dimerization or isomerization of chalcone derivatives. The long alkyl-chains attached on the chalcone derivatives were aligned homeotropically and so are LC-molecules.

Abstract To make a molecular assembly of cytochrome c onto the Au substrate, the cytochrome c was modified using the 2-succinimidyl-3-(2-pyridyldi-th-io)propionate(SPDP), so the functional group on the cytochrome c surface was modified. And the modified cytochrome c was adsorbed onto the Au substrate. The modified cytochrome c was examined by using UV-visible spectroscopy and FT-IR. Also, the morphology of cytochrome c adsorbed onto the Au substrate was analyzed by Atomic Force Microscopy(AFM).
