The decision on the pair degree/institution, upon application to higher education will be the most important in the life of a young person. Despite recent developments, applicants to higher education still don't know many of the available indicators that could influence their decision. In this paper we propose a portal with a simple design which presents all the available and relevant indicators. It offers also necessary resources and options thus is the candidate and not the state or any other entity, to prioritize their priorities. The portal will allow each candidate to query data, by degree and institution, and make individual simulations, giving weights to more relevant criteria, in order to find a hierarchy of degrees/institutions which most closely match to his goals, thus creating a personal ranking.

This paper presents the results of performance comparison for three different virtualization software, Oracle VM VirtualBox, VMware Player and Microsoft Virtual PC 2007, in Windows 7 operation system environment. All the testing procedures are performed in the same hardware environment and on the same disc partition. We have applied NTFS file system, while Windows 7 is used as host and guest operational systems. Postmark is benchmark application created for the needs of file system performance measurement, and easily used for testing systems and virtualization applications performances based on the different file size.

Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks version RAID-0 is a block-stripped disk array without redundancy. This paper provides results of RAID-0 performance examination when compared to a single disk drive. Particular emphasis is put on how the number of disks in the RAID 0 configuration influences the performance results. The presented analysis relies on setting up the analytical model of a single disk based on M/G/1 queue and in the same manner defining analytical model for the file system access time. Finally, we have set up an analytical model for the RAID-0 workload related to four specific types of RAID performances. We have defined three types of workloads, generally dominated by relatively small objects. Test results have shown a superior behaviour of RAID-0 when compared to a single drive and a significant performance enhancement as the number of disks increases. All benchmark results are interpreted based on a mathematical model.

As for Gamification, it is about business software with game characteristics, understanding the software development process will improve the practices, and will more than likely, improve the business itself (make it more efficient, effective, and less costly and mainly collect a positive influence from the customers). This study aims to develop a framework that provides the mechanisms to ensure that the software will have game characteristic and that clients will recognize it as Gamification. Our results show that the five-step framework proposal applied to the Gamification project management on this study, the Spiral development model, and the group discussion results into a positive effect on customers and e-business. The spiral development methodology used for the development of this application showed to be the appropriated for this type of project. The tests with discussion-groups proved to be a key "tool" to identify and adapt the game characteristics that has led to the improvement of customer perception of socialness, usefulness ease of use, enjoyment and ease of use that probed to have a strong positive impact on the intention to use the game.

Advances in technology have penetrated all aspects of our lives. Consequently, our interactions with devices and other users become ubiquitous, demanding well thought-out design approaches. In the last few years, several methodologies for HCI design have been proposed, which attempt to capture users' thoughts and other information from multi-layered user hierarchies [1-2]. However, these methodologies do not scale well in hierarchical situations, where participants can be of differing levels of expertise/authority. We have designed an inclusive methodology which acknowledges all participant perspectives and facilitates interaction between stakeholders. Semiotic Circles draws inspiration from well-established methodologies such as Paper Prototyping, Think-Aloud protocol and Object Labeling. This methodology combines visualization on paper with a tangible tagging system, enabling the final aggregated model to be genuinely inclusive, rather than the result of designers/researchers choices.

Building information systems (IS) for the communication and distribution of information requires proper approaches. The most suitable programming approach must be applied since all phases of IS development will be affected if the wrong approach is chosen. Programming approaches are also known as programming paradigm (PP)s. The most suitable selection for these various PPs will of course rely on the programmer's decision making and problem solving skills. However, it has been reported that programmers are trained more on the programming language's syntax and semantics rather than the PPs itself. Since each PP is a concept of its own, it could be difficult for some programmers to transition or shift to the next sequence of PP(s). This paper explores some prospective approaches for the shift of PPs and discusses how they could help the shift to the next PPs.

This paper presents an innovative platform that permits the aggregation of multiple e-mail and accounts, to make the day to day handling of e-mail messages more manageable and pleasant. The new product illustrates a launching supported by low level of investment and the search for innovation based in the finding of an unexplored need in the fast moving of the information and communication technology (ICT) global market. Low financial and human resources are the main problems of start-ups when disputing big companies. But one of the challenges of the ICT market can be an opportunity to a start-up, which is be focus on the solution instead of the technology. Just a small part of the market buys technology for technology's sake and maybe that, in part, can explain the quite conservative behaviour inside the IT industry, as Butje explained (1). Although there is a high demand for new solutions, most of the time to help simplifying the existent offer, very few want to be the first to try it. Users of this platform will benefit from not having to enter credentials for each of their e-mail accounts. To be able to access all e-mail accounts at once, the user logs on to the platform and the (pre-configured) e-mail accounts are visible. The user shall then have the option to view all e-mail messages within the same area (the messages are highlighted with different colours (or logos) depending on which account they are destined for). Another view is to have separate areas (or tabs) for each email account. The functionality shall also be extended to instant messaging accounts.

Relational model is the most essential database model for decades and is examined in various ways. A very important concept in the relational modeling is the concept of dependencies. Particularly a set of functional dependencies and its equivalent minimal cover are discussed here for synthesizing third normal form relations. A traditional synthesis algorithm have been used to reduce the set of functional dependencies, F, into an equivalent minimal cover. This cover is then used to develop a relational schema; however, a given set of functional dependencies may have more than one minimal covers. In turn, different minimal covers may give rise to different relational schema. Database designers had already been agreed upon the use of popular inference rules of Armstrong to obtain minimal covers from the set F of functional dependencies. Despite the frequent use of the traditional synthesis algorithm, there is still a lack of formality and simplicity support in that algorithm to produce a minimum cover, especially; the step(s) of the algorithm in which the set of functional dependencies of F are used to make left-irreducible remain informal. In this paper, an extension is proposed to the synthesis algorithm that aids in to produce an optimal minimal cover more systematically from the given set of functional dependencies. The optimal minimal cover obtained by this extension would be appropriate for synthesizing third normal form relational schema from the universal relation scheme.

The purpose of this paper is to present a reflection on the importance of communication design as transmitter of cultural identity, the measure of an identity and image representing a place, and the contributions of design as a project that ensures the development of a transnational identity construction. Discusses the importance of heritage and culture as a differential factor for the construction of an identity, since cultural diversity takes many forms through time and space. Culture as transmitter of messages must be taken and understood as an essential element in the representation of a place.
