ABSTRACT This study is aimed to review the genus Spulerina Vári, (1961) of the family Gracillariidae from Korea, in which seven species are known. Among them, one species, Spulerina coreana sp. nov., is described as new to science. Also, two species, S. parthenocissi Kumata & Kuroko, 1988, and S. virgulata Kumata & Kuroko, 1988, are reported for the first time from Korea. All available information for the species including their bibliographies, known host plants, and distributional data are provided. Adults and genitalia of all presented species are briefly redescribed and illustrated.

ABSTRACT New species, Macromotettixoides daweishana sp. nov. from Yunnan and Macromotettixoides orthomargina sp. nov. from Sichuan, are described and illustrated. M. daweishana is similar to M. undulatifemura but differs in the shape of pronotum and narrow vertex. M. orthomargina is similar to M. shengtangshanensis but differs in the shape of infrascapular area and the wide vertex. The distribution and a key to the species of Macromotettixoides are given. http://www.zoobank.org/urn:lsid:zoobank.org:pub:38128DB6-2DFB-4C8B-9AD4-6B773B9EA8F3

ABSTRACT An updated checklist of the species of the subfamily Philanthinae in the Middle Eastern and North African countries with special reference to Egypt is provided here. The list includes 176 and 47 valid species and subspecies, respectively, in four genera: Cerceris (131 species, 38 subspecies), Philanthinus (3 species), Philanthus (27 species, 9 subspecies), and Pseudoscolia (15 species). Distributions, both in the Middle East and North Africa, and distributional maps are provided for each species whenever available. In Egypt, the subfamily Philanthinae is represented by 56 species, of which the presence of the following species is questionable and considered to be doubtful records: Cerceris dispar Dahlbom, C. leucochroa Schletterer, C. quadricincta (Panzer), C. schmiedeknechti Kohl, C. specularis A. Costa, Philanthus sulphureus F. Smith, and P. venustus (Rossi), and the two subspecies, P. triangulum diadema (Fabricius), and P. triangulum obliteratus Pic.

ABSTRACT Asias halodendri (Pallas) is a polyphagous xylophage native to Asia and the biggest threat to Tetraena mongolica Maxim extinction. In this study, we attempted to locate the site of pheromone emission in A. halodendri. Different body parts, which included the wing, thorax, abdomen, and genital segments, of male and female A. halodendri were used in the olfactometry and electroantennographic experiments. Results showed that the male and female responses were stronger when the abdomen or abdominal extracts were applied as stimuli than when other body parts were used. Thus, the pheromone production system in A. halodendri is presumably located at the abdominal region.

ABSTRACT Taxonomic revision of the genus Cueta Navás from Pakistan is presented by redescribing four of the five species, i.e., C. facile, C. infensa, and C. minervae in this country. Cueta omana syn. nov. is proposed as a junior synonym of Cueta thaliae, a poorly known species, only documented from Afghanistan and Pakistan. Cueta infensa is reported as a new record for Pakistan. The holotype photographs of Cueta infensa and Cueta omana are also presented. Distributional maps, a comprehensive list of synonyms, diagnostic characters for each studied species, and a key to species based on adult characters are provided.
摘要通过对巴基斯坦Cueta Navás属5种中的4种(即C. facile、C. infensa和C. minervae)的重新描述,对该属的分类进行了修订。Cueta omana syn11 .被认为是Cueta thaliae(一种鲜为人知的物种,仅在阿富汗和巴基斯坦有记录)的初级同义词。

ABSTRACT Phylogenetic relationships among genera and species of the leafhopper tribe Deltocephalini, with particular focus on the large genus Maiestas, were reconstructed using a data set of 32 species representing eight genera plus five outgroups, three nuclear gene fragments (28S rDNA, Wingless, H3) and one mitochondrial (COI) gene fragment using maximum likelihood (ML) and Bayesian inference (BI). The ML and BI results are well resolved with areas of incongruence restricted to a few branches receiving low support in one or both analyses within a large clade comprising species of Maiestas. The results consistently support the monophyly of Deltocephalini, but indicate that some genera previously defined based on morphology, including Deltocephalus, Maiestas and Polyamia, are paraphyletic.

ABSTRACT In the present study, we described the histological and anatomical studies of the digestive canal and excretory system of Mylabris cernyi with light and scanning electron microscopies. The digestive canal is divided into three parts: the foregut, the midgut, and the hindgut. The foregut includes a pharynx, an oesophagus, a proventriculus and an oesophageal valve. There are the muscle layer, a thin epithelium, and the intima lining in the parts of the foregut. The midgut is well developed and has a transversely wrinkled shape. This epithelial layer of columnar cells is invaginated to form large and deep folds of epithelial tissue. The hindgut has pyloric valve, ileum, colon, and rectum. In the cell layers of the hindgut, there is an inner lining of the intima of cuticula, an epithelial layer and a muscle layer. There are 6 Malpighian tubules which are attached between the midgut and the hindgut. The results will help guide the development of new strategies for managing this pest. Because knowing the fine structure of the digestive and excretory system of this species is important in terms of forming the basis for the studies to be carried out in agricultural control against this species.

ABSTRACT Siamese specimens were among those included in the historically significant insect descriptions made by Johan Christian Fabricius in the 18th century. The full extent of this collection and its provenance are largely unknown. A collation of described specimens from Fabricius, identified 29 species of Insecta attributed to Siam. A species list, with current nomenclature, is provided. Two beetles of primarily temperate origins are considered doubtful. Another two taxa are currently taxonomically misdated. Although all these specimens were attributed to the Joseph Banks insect collection, where they remain, the original source of the specimens is identified by Fabricius’ letters as the botanist, Jean Gerard Koenig. From material not described, or misattributed, by Fabricius, four additional lepidopterans have documented historical provenance linking them to Siam, while 21 more have probable and/or potential links to the type locality. The collecting observations of Koenig are discussed and described. From these it is also possible to identify exact capture records of several species. As well as linking the starting point for entomological science in Thailand with the historical origins of insect taxonomy, the collated descriptions represent the first insect species list for the country.
