Purpose – This study was designed to present how urban planning is associated with, and explain psychological well-being, health, time use, education, cultural diversity and resilience, community vitality, good governance, ecological diversity, resilience, and living standards. We used Gross National Happiness Index (GNH) as theoretical background. Design/methodology/approach – Quantitative and explanatory research was conducted and operationalized through a survey of 212 citizens. We used data from a mid-sized city, inner Santa Catarina state, Brazil. Findings – The linear regression showed that urban planning predicts happiness and well-being. More specifically, urban planning impacts more time use perception; community vitality; ecological diversity and resilience; and most important, living standards. Research implications – we found that urban planning impacts more on the variables that are directly related to the environment, explained by the pillars of sustainable socio-economic development and environmental conservation. The individual and psychological dimensions related to health, culture, and education don't show the same impact, as well as good governance. Originality/value: a potential study to be used by government agencies to act directly in the elaboration of public policies once it is understood that using the GNH can identify specific deficits.

Purpose: The objective of this work was to identify the levels of occupational stress in Criminal Police, as well as their generating factors (stressors), coping strategies and suggestions for improvement. Design/methodology/approach: Based on a quantitative study carried out in a Prison Unit in Minas Gerais, data were collected through an electronic questionnaire, adapted from the Theoretical Model for Explanation of Occupational Stress (MTEG) developed and validated by Zille (2005). The results were analyzed using univariate and multivariate statistics and the discursive questions were treated from the Content Analysis Findings: The main results indicate that 89% of those surveyed present stress ranging from mild to moderate to very intense and the main stressors are related to the insufficient number of staff, the biological risk of infectious diseases, overcrowding and high risk of detainees, in addition to the relationship with colleagues and management. It is also worth mentioning improvement actions aimed at 3 categories: Public Power, Management and Servants. Research limitations/implications (if applicable): It is worth noting the fact that it was carried out only in a prison unit and the impossibility of interviews, in view of the restrictions imposed by the Covid 19 Pandemic. Practical implications: The study highlights suggestive actions that involve the government, the direction of the Unit and also the Criminal Police in an attempt to collaborate to reduce the level of stress experienced by servers. In addition to the clamor for an increase in the number of employees, the valorization of work, dialogue, training are some of the practical actions to be taken. Social implications: It is believed that the research draws attention to variables that influence the level of security, both of the agents and the community. Therefore, it is a matter of collective interest. Originality/value (mandatory): We sought to contribute to the advancement of research on stress at work carried out by Criminal Police, pointing out the main stress-generating factors and indications of improvements, from the perspective of those involved. In this way, it contributes with information that can help the management of prisons, as well as justify more solid public actions for the category.

Purpose: This study aims to investigate effects of education for sustainable development (ESD) on university students' personal norms regarding the scarcity of drinking water in light of the value-belief-norm theory (VBN). Design/methodology/approach: The empirical research was developed at the Federal University of Bahia. The final sample was composed of 1,096 university students. The questionnaire was validated qualitatively and quantitatively. For hypothesis testing, Structural Equation Modeling was employed. Findings: Results indicated that the level of education for sustainable development positively impacted only biospheric values. The findings demonstrate that the impact of education for sustainable development depends on its quality, quantity, distribution, and diffusion in curricula. Research implications: This research is based on VBN theory and contributes to the body of literature of EDS. It suggests that individuals' values are in fact guiding principles of their beliefs. Practical implications: Biospheric values were found to have a positive effect on ecological beliefs. Nevertheless, it was found that in order to feel a moral obligation to act, students need to believe that, in fact, drinking water scarcity is a serious problem for society. Social implications: This research adds insights to the matter of educating the younger generation of students in view of the recent (2021-2022) water crisis in Brazil. Originality/value: The analysis of effects of "level of education for sustainable development” on individuals' values, impacting the VBN chain to explain student coping with drinking water scarcity is an original contribution of this study.

Purpose: Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools have become popular in the most diverse contexts of use. This research sought to investigate how AI tools were applied in agribusiness by assisting producers in decision-making. Design / methodology / approach: To this end, online and semi-structured interviews were conducted with managers and rural producers who use this type of technology on their properties. Findings: AI was found to be present in machinery, software, and other applications applied for crop monitoring, soil quality verification, and management in general. Users are quite optimistic with the results, especially in decision support during planting period. These differences are perceived before and after technologies utilization. However, interviewers still believe that the human presence is fundamental in the farming. Research limitations / implications: As limitations, it is highlighted the schedule for conducting the interviews, as well as the fact that they were performed online. Despite this, it was possible to verify the importance of the use of technology for the agribusiness sector, serving as support for the management of rural properties. Originality / value: In the Information Systems studies field to relate the use of AI and decision-making in a sector such as agribusiness is something recent and innovative.

Purpose: To evaluate the relationship between organizational culture and the leadership performed by man-agers of micro and small companies. Methodology: The research has a quantitative and descriptive approach. Self-administered questionnaires applied to managers were used as a data collection instrument, resulting in a sample of 82 respondents. For data analysis, descriptive and correlational techniques were used. Results: The results showed that the transactional leadership style was the most perceived in managers and the type of current predominant culture was the clan culture. When testing the conjectured hypotheses, dif-ferent relationships between organizational culture and its dimensions were found with leadership styles. Clan culture showed correlation with all dimensions. Practical implications: In practical terms, the research will be able to contribute to the micro and small compa-nies of intimate fashion and their managers, presenting new perspectives of management and development of competitive strategies, from the understanding of the leadership styles of the managers and the organizational culture of the company. company. Originality: Based on the research found, it appears that both organizational culture and leadership have been component variables of some mediation and moderation models that relate personal and organizational var-iables, but publications have not been identified in the literature that directly investigate the culture and its relationship with leadership styles in small textile companies.

Purpose: The present research aims at checking the social environmental practices carried out by the B corps, as well as the advantages and challenges faced by the movement. Design/methodology/approach: The research is descriptive and qualitative, carried out through multiple case studies with 11 Brazilian companies certified by the B Lab. The sources of data collection were semi-structured interviews with owners, managers, or employees who were actively engaged with sustainability causes in the company, in addition to the use of documents. Data were analyzed through content analysis.Findings: The main results showed that the B Corps works to resolve either social or environmental problems, even if their core activity is not for this purpose. Among the advantages of being part of the movement is the strength of working in a group with the same purpose, in search of transforming the capitalist market and recognizing its practices. The challenges in the certification search are related to the formalization of practices, considering that they are mostly small companies and the need for greater dissemination of the movement.Originality/value: The study contributes both to the advance in the literature regarding the understanding of the B Corp movement and to the evolution of the concept of hybrid organizations. As empirical contributions, the research serves as a basis for people and companies that seek to alleviate social and environmental problems through their practices and professional activities.

Objective: the study aims to expose the relationship between innovation and regulatory activities through the experiences of Brazilian regulatory agencies.Methodology: the study follows a bibliographical approach, adopting bibliographical and documentary research and collecting data from academic publications, reports and information published on the Federal Government’s website.Findings: through this essay it was possible to perceive how innovation is indispensable to regulatory activities, in view of the benefits provided to agencies and, especially, the positive impacts for society.Research limitations: since this is a theoretical study, the relationship between innovation and regulatory activities was limited to the experiences shared in the researched sources. Given a certain deficit of approach to the subject in the prevailing literature, we believe that an in loco research would be a more robust source of information and, thus, other innovation actions, not shared in academic works and/or websites, would be identified.Originality/value: the study’s contributions permeate the universe of the link between innovation and regulatory agencies, demonstrating the relevance of innovative actions to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in public services, taking four Brazilian agencies as an example. The absence of research on innovation in regulatory agencies at the national level characterizes the originality of the work. It is suggested, therefore, that regulatory agencies systematize their information on innovation actions and make it available to the public, in the form of a report, presenting the results achieved and the benefits acquired.

O suporte fornecido aos participantes e a escolha do desafio proposto são aspectos que afetam a percepção dos participantes sobre o evento, assim como exercem influência nas soluções desenvolvidas.Limitações da pesquisa: Por se tratar de um estudo de casos múltiplos e de caráter qualitativo, não é viável estabelecer generalizações com base nos resultados do estudo, sendo apenas viável apresentar evidências e propostas com base nos casos concretos estudados.Implicações práticas: Proposição de melhores práticas a serem seguidas para a organização de hackathons, em específico no contexto das maratonas para desenvolvimento de soluções.Originalidade: Poucos estudos são direcionados para a aplicação de hackathons, e mais raros são aqueles desenvolvidos considerando diferentes países para análise dos elementos capacitadores baseados em estruturas distintas e suas contribuições na inovação. Investiga-se o desenvolvimento de hackathons como alternativa para inovação na área de software.","PeriodicalId":197586,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Administração da UFSM","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116901658","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Purpose: The ephemeral nature of fast fashion has influenced a change in people's thinking around the world about its production and consumption practices. This change in social behavior has been noticed, as people question the current way of consuming and provoke what has been called slow fashion. In this way, how is the adherence to 'practices' of fashion consumption, considered as slow fashion, by young women, an age group inserted in the millennials classification? Would it be a transition from fast to slow?Design/methodology/approach: This research has a qualitative approach, and its type is classified as exploratory, making use of the interview as a data collection technique.Findings: The results showed a steady consumption within the large retail of fast fashion due to low prices, convenience, and easy access. However, the interviewees showed trends in positioning for the consumption of slow products.Originality/value: It is concluded that fast fashion, until nowadays, is the concrete and hegemonic practice of fashion consumption, and it is not possible to view it as an ex-practice, since the three criteria of its classification still remain connected. As for slow fasion, this is in a proto-practice state, as component elements are identified, but connections have not yet been made.
