Purpose: The objective of this research was to statistically test significant correlations between dark personality traits and employee’s use of sources of guidance when dealing with different events at work, comparing the United States and Brazil. Methodology: 220 employees from a Brazilian university and 166 employees from an American university filled out a paper-and-pencil questionnaire comprised of two previously-validated scales. Based on the theoretical review about the constructs, 10 hypotheses were raised to be empirically tested through Pearson correlation (r) tests. Findings: The dark personality trait Machiavellianism was positively correlated with the use of Informal Rules and negatively correlated with the use of Formal Rules and Procedures as a guidance source at work in the American sample. In addition, the dark personality trait Psychopathy was negatively correlated with the use of Formal Rules and Procedures as a guidance source at work in the Brazilian sample. Practical implications: The findings have implications for administrators and human resource professionals, who can benefit from knowledge about correlations between dark personality traits and employee’s attitude of relying on sources of guidance at work, especially when it comes to recruiting and selecting processes. Limitations: Although the research was restricted to correlations, it elaborated a robust ground for causality investigations. Originality: The investigation involved two countries with a cross-cultural approach. In an international and multicultural scenario, it becomes strategic to deeper investigate specificities of work-related constructs in different nations, aiming at effective and contextualized management practices.

Purpose: The objective of this research was to identify the existence of a relationship between intellectual capital, individual absorptive capacity and the innovation performance of the Federal Institute of Santa Catarina’s technical-administrative civil servants. Methodology: Self-administered questionnaires were used as a data collection instrument, applied to the institution's technical-administrative staff, resulting in a sample of 314 respondents. In the data analysis, structural equation modeling was used. The final quantitative analysis structure resulted in 28 variables, distributed among the constructs proposed by the research. Relevance: the relevance of the study lies in the fact that individuals play a role in the creation, transfer and absorption of knowledge, thus factors at the individual level represent an antecedent for performance; therefore, at the time when the codification of knowledge occurs or expands, through assimilation, acquisition, transformation and application, a direct contribution to increasing organizational effectiveness also occurs. Results: The results showed that human capital, structural capital and relational capital influence the individual absorptive capacity, from the perspective of the institution's technical-administrative staff, with the most relevant relationship being that of human capital. Originality/Theoretical contribution: The responses indicated that the innovation performance – analyzed based on the creation and implementation of ideas – is influenced by the individual absorptive capacity. Therefore, through the results obtained, contributions to management were proposed that could contribute to the influence between the constructs, and consequently, to the individual and organizational performance.

Purpose – Risk tolerance, understood as the willingness of accepting a certain amount of risk which was perceived in an uncertain scenario, has been broadly studied under the framework of personal financial. This research aims to validate a scale for investment risk tolerance when dealing with real assets, in a business context. Design/methodology/approach – A survey was performed with 150 managers, directors, and entrepreneurs who make investment decisions regarding real assets in the commerce, industry, and service sectors. Exploratory factorial analysis was performed was applied to detect the dimensionality of Risk Tolerance construct. Findings – Risk Tolerance in real assets investments is a construct composed by two dimensions, the first factor is related to the familiarity of the decision-maker with the company and its investments, and it was denominated comfort and security, following the original dimension from personal finance research. The second dimension refers to the unpredictability and the complexity of risky investments in real assets, and it was denominated ‘black box effect’. The last factor, however, did not achieve the standards of reliability and it need further research.

Purpose: Media products meaning lies on the interpretation of its content. As productive consumers, fans reframe them. In the process, they produce new texts on these products, known as paratexts. The research aims to understand how fan’s paratexts (re)produces discourses to re-signify media products’ (para)texts. For such, we look at fan paratextualization of Game of Thrones (GoT), an economic and cultural phenomenon with huge repercussions on social media. Design/methodology/approach: Through a Foucauldian Archeology, we collected and analyzed comments posted by GoT fans on promotional videos published on the TV series' official YouTube channel. Findings: The fans' paratextual production presents different positions on the consumed cultural product: a public tribute highlighting its cultural legacy that is based on feelings of nostalgia and frustration with the conclusion of its plot. We conclude that these paratexts worked as a reckoning for the TV series’ fans. Broadly, it is possible to interpret paratexts as marketing content that allow fans to act as prosumers of media products, the entertainment industry, and fans' culture. Originality/value: The study presents how the fans’ productive consumption is materialized through the paratext (re)production that both establish the resonance of media objects in the culture of fans and lead them to assume the role of co-authors of the texts they consume. This role reinforces how fans should be understood as consumers who can act freely in relation to marketing actions. Moreover, it implies that paratexts can be produced to stimulate the discursive production that works as prosumer performance of fans.

Objectives - this article aimed to analyze, from the perspective of the Theory of Planned Behavior, the determining factors of the entrepreneurial intention of entrepreneurs and potential entrepreneurs of Acre. Design / Methodology / Approach - The research covered graduates of the Empretec Seminar (SEBRAE), using the quantitative methodology of Structural Equation Modeling by Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). Results - Results showed that Attitude Towards Behavior is the construct that most positively influences the entrepreneurial intention, followed by the constructs of the subjective norms and the perception of control. Limitations / implications of the research - The limitations of the study are related to the population because the list of participants includes only graduates of the Empretec Seminar, as well as the fact that it was not considered whether the individuals were temporally close to the triggering event. Practical implications - Entrepreneurial intention is considered as the first step in the process of discovering and exploiting opportunities, which makes it a fundamental part of the understanding of entrepreneurship. The study contributes in diminishing the gap of theoretical and empirical studies on this subject in the Brazilian scenario. Originality / value - The hypothesis that the need for achievement positively influences the entrepreneurial intention has not been accepted, which can occur due to the fact that the psychological characteristics of the entrepreneurs can undergo changes as the entrepreneur moves away from the motivating event of entrepreneurship.

Objective: to assess the quality perceived by students in the on-site undergraduate course in administration at a private university located in the city of São Paulo, using a new scale developed from the skills expected in the training of future administrators. Design/Methodology/Approach: a 46-item questionnaire was developed and tested, with multivariate statistical techniques (exploratory factor analysis and Cronbach's alpha). In total, 629 students participated in the study. Results: the study identified four blocks of competences: managerial skills, problem solving, proactivity, communication, and creativity and techniques. In the global assessment of the quality of educational services, the institution achieved 76.19%, which indicates that the Administration course offered by the institution can be considered of good quality. The work delivers an instrument and an evaluation methodology that can be used to improve administration courses in the country. Originality/value: the study is relevant when assessing the quality of higher education from a new scale based on the skills required to exercise the profession of an administrator defined by Resolution No. 4 of July 13th, 2005.

Objective: To analyze the Minimum Price Guarantee Policy for Sociobiodiversity Products - PGPMBio with focus on the composition of the extraction cost of the Brazil nut in the states of Rondônia and Acre. Materials and Methods: This work used a qualitative approach through a field study. The Matrix proposed by Easton (1957) enabled an analysis of Public Policy. The field research took place at three different times, with 34 respondents: the first was in Brasiléia -AC) Acre State) in November 2014, in Porto Velho - RO (Rondônia State) in March 2015, in Brasiléia - AC and Cobija - Bolivia in June 2015. Results: It was concluded that there is a discrepancy between the minimum price defined in PGPMBio and the price paid by the market in the cases studied. The results show that PGPMBio does not consider environmental costs in the elaboration of the minimum price, employing economic criteria in a context that requires a sustainable vision. Study limitations: The size of the extractivist sample, which, due to its small quantity, makes it impossible to expand the results for the entire population, being limited to the reality of the interviewees. Practical implications: It is suggested to include bonuses for environmental services in the calculation of the minimum price. Originality: The recognition of the workforce on the extractivism of the Chestnut-of-the-Amazon in the composition of the product's cost. This was possible due to the analysis of production costs of the Chestnut-of-the-Amazon through the methodology of analysis of public policies of Easton (1957) and the simultaneous verification of the applicability of PGPMBio among the extractivists.

Purpose – Over the years, the lean production philosophy has shown satisfactory results for companies from different sectors in different countries. Aiming to contribute to the knowledge base on the mentioned philosophy, this study aims to verify the perception of shop floor employees regarding senior management support in lean projects and its relationship with initiatives success. Design/methodology/approach – Through a literature review, 18 aspects of a lean journey were identified and divided into four constructs by a panel of specialists. This information was used to compose a questionnaire, and a survey was conducted with 198 shop floor employees of two auto parts companies. Data analysis was done via Structural Equation Modeling. Findings – As a general result, it was possible to prove that when employees perceive more significant support from senior management in lean projects, the greater is the perception of initiatives success. Therefore, it is interesting that the involvement of senior management occurs at all stages of the project. Originality/value – The results described here have practical implications, especially for managers interested in implementing lean projects; they must be aware of the importance of senior management support for the success of previous projects.

Objective: The article aimed to analyze how the effectuation and causation logics were used in the entrepreneurial process of two companies from Minas Gerais. The effectuation logic is based on issues related to the entrepreneur's decision making and contrasts with the causation logic - which refers to traditional methods of the entrepreneurial process based on planning and determined sequences. Methodology: A qualitative comparative study was carried out in two companies from Minas Gerais. The evidence was obtained from interviews with the founding partners, in addition to observation and documents, and the data analysis was performed using content analysis. Results: The results showed that in the two cases analyzed, the entrepreneurs relied on effectuation logic for setting up the businesses, with little use of causation logic but as the businesses consolidated and moved beyond the initial founding phase, the entrepreneurs took different attitudes, basing their decisions and actions on greater planning and systematic analysis of the context. Limitations: Some studies show that cultural differences can have an influence on the entrepreneurial process and how entrepreneurs make decisions. This variable was not contemplated in this study, which represents a limitation. Additionally, the study analyzed the entrepreneurial process of two companies from Minas Gerais, which does not allow for generalization. Originality/contributions: the work contributes to the national studies on the entrepreneurial process, mainly from the principles that compose the effectuation logic, seeking to identify and classify the decisions and actions of entrepreneurs in the causation and effectuation logics.
