A high-energy nuclear database proposal 高能核数据库提案

We propose to develop a high-energy heavy-ion experimental database and make it accessible to the scientific community through an on-line interface. This database will be searchable and cross-indexed with relevant publications, including published detector descriptions. Since this database will be a community resource, it requires the high-energy nuclear physics community’s financial and manpower support. This database should eventually contain all published data from the Bevalac, AGS and SPS to RHIC and LHC energies, proton-proton to nucleus-nucleus collisions as well as other relevant systems, and all measured observables. Such a database would have tremendous scientific payoff as it makes systematic studies easier and allows simpler benchmarking of theoretical models to a broad range of old and new experiments. Furthermore, there is a growing need for compilations of high-energy nuclear data for applications including stockpile stewardship, technology development for inertial confinement fusion and target and source development for upcoming facilities such as the Next Linear Collider. To enhance the utility of this database, we propose periodically performing evaluations of the data and summarizing the results in topical reviews.

Local thermalization in d+Au collisions d+Au碰撞中的局部热化

The extent of a locally equilibrated parton plasma in d+Au collisions at √s NN =200 GeV is investigated as a function of centrality in a nonequilibrium-statistical framework. Based on a three-sources model, analytical solutions of a relativistic diffusion equation are in precise agreement with recent data for charged-particle pseudorapidity distributions. The moving midrapidity source indicates the size of the local thermal equilibrium region after hadronization. In central d+Au collisions it contains 19% of the produced particles.

Open heavy flavor production from light ion collisions at RHIC 打开重离子碰撞在RHIC产生重味

PHENIX measures leptons at mid and forward rapidities and extracts leptons resulting from semi-leptonic decays of heavy quarks. We present PHENIX results related to heavy quark production, specifically the invariant cross section of the non-photonic single electrons produced at midrapidity in p+p and d+Au collisions at (sqrt {s_{NN} } = 200) GeV. The measured cross section for p+p collisions is compared with the NLO prediction, and a possible excess over the prediction is noted. The measured cross section for d+Au collisions scales with the number of colliding nucleon pairs from the p+p spectra.

J/Ψ Production and Nuclear Effects for d+Au and p+p Collisions in PHENIX at RHIC J/Ψ在RHIC上的PHENIX中d+Au和p+p碰撞的产生和核效应

The gluon structure function in a nucleon and its nuclear modification may be studied by measuring a particle called J/Ψ that is produced primarily via gluon fusion in high energy collisions between protons or nuclei. The PHENIX Experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) has measured the production of J/Ψ particles in d+Au collisions at center-of-mass energies of 200 GeV per nucleon via its lepton decay channels (dielectrons and dimuons). In 2003, approximately 2000 J/Ψ particles from the d+Au data set (and several hundred in p+p) has allowed for measures of its rapidity (between -2.2 and +2.4) and momentum (between 0.5 and 5 GeV/c) distributions. In particular, the ratio of the rapidity distributions of J/Ψ produced in d+Au and p+p collisions is measured as a function of the d+Au impact parameter (centrality dependence of the collision). These preliminary data will ultimately help us understand nuclear effects at this center-of-mass energy (including shadowing) in cold nuclear matter. In addition to comparisons to theoretical models, these data are also compared to the equivalent measurements of J/Ψ produced in lower energy p–A collisions from Fermilab.

The properties of jets produced in p+p, d+Au and Au+Au collisions at √{s_NN} = 200 GeV at RHIC are discussed. Using the method of two-particle correlations, the angular width and yield of the same and away-side correlation peaks are studied.

Extraction of kinetic freeze-out properties and effect of resonance decays 动力学冻出特性的提取及共振衰减的影响

We present STAR results from identified particle spectra measured in (sqrt {s_{NN} } = 62.4) GEV Au-Au collisions. Particle production and system dynamics are compared to results at (sqrt {s_{NN} } = 200) GeV. We extract kinetic and chemical freeze-out parameters using blast wave model parametrization and statistical model. We discuss the effect of resonance decays on the extracted kinetic freeze-out parameters.

Selfconsistent calculations of hadrons at finite temperature 有限温度下强子的自洽计算

A set of selfconsistent Schwinger-Dyson equations for the Walecka model is derived within the framework of the Cornwall-Jackiw-Tomboulis formalism. In the Hartree approximation these equations are solved by propagators with T- and μ-dependent masses. The results are compared to tree-level calculations. The difference is most pronounced for the mass of the scalar meson.

What QCD sum rules tell about the rho meson — A new answer to an old question 关于介子,QCD和规则告诉我们什么?一个老问题的新答案

First, a historical overview is presented concerning the use of QCD sum rules to learn about the p-meson properties at finite nuclear densities. Second, it is shown that the combination of the sum rule technique with the large-N c expansion provides new insight. Especially it is possible to determine from the in-medium sum rules a vacuum(!) quantity which is an important ingredient for hadronic in-medium calculations of the p-meson spectral function. This quantity is the coupling strength of the p-nucleon system to the baryonic resonance N*(1520).

Low-Mass Drell-Yan Pairs at RHIC and LHC RHIC和LHC的低质量drill - yan对

We summarize the calculation of Drell-Yan transverse-momentum distributions using QCD perturbation theory. In particular, the transversemomentum spectrum of low-mass Drell-Yan pairs is calculated with all-order resummation. We demonstrate that the transverse-momentum distribution of low-mass Drell-Yan pairs is an advantageous source of constraints on the gluon distribution and its nuclear dependence. We argue that low-mass Drell-Yan pairs in the forward region provide a good and clean probe of small-x gluons at RHIC and LHC.

Quark matter and non-extensive thermodynamics 夸克物质和非扩展热力学

We investigate different ways of describing the thermodynamics of prehadronic matter in high-energy heavy-ion collisions. The non-extensive thermodynamics with certain assumptions enables an agreement between two important experimental facts. That cannot be achieved using the conventional Gibbs statistics. A massless quark-gluon plasma with E/N=1 GeV energy per particle and T=175 MeV spectral slope temperature can be assumed.
