Composites based on PLA with the addition of 3, 6 and 10 wt% silica, hydroxyapatite and bentonite were obtained by twin-screw extrusion. Maleic anhydride grafted polyethylene was used to enhance interface interactions. The influence of the fillers used on the Charpy impact strength, Rockwell hardness, tensile properties and processing shrinkage was investigated. Test samples were obtained by 3D printing. The highest impact strength and hardness were obtained for the composite containing 10 wt% hydroxyapatite. PLA with 10 wt% hydroxyapatite and 3 wt% bentonite was used to obtain anatomical structures by 3D printing.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the shrinkage stress during cross-linking of compositeorthodontic adhesive systems. The elastic-optical method was used for shrinkage stress analysis. Basedon the obtained results, basic statistics were determined, including averages and standard deviations.For the comparative analysis of the mean values, the Tukey HSD test was used at the significance levelα = 0.05. The average value of shrinkage stress during cross-linking ranged from 7.2 to 11.5 MPa.

The effect of fumed silica (3 and 5 wt%) on the structure, viscosity, tensile and flexural properties, and hardness of photosensitive acrylic resins used for 3D printing was investigated. The optimal set of functional properties was obtained with a silica content of 3 wt%. In this case, the resin had the appropriate viscosity, degree of cross-linking, hardness (90 ShD), tensile strength (47 MPa) and flexural strength (96 MPa). The obtained results indicate that the addition of silica effectively reinforce the resin.

Adhesion between the polymer matrix and fillers is an important factor influencing the properties of the obtained composites. One way to improve interactions at the interface is to modify the filler with coupling agents, e.g., silanes. The article presents the effect of modifying the surface of the mineral filler with a new type of silane [triethoxy(ketoimino)silane] on the mechanical properties of polyester resin based composites. Composites with triethoxy(ketoimino)silane-modified filler had similar mechanical properties to composites obtained with commercial silanes, with slightly lower water absorption.

The effect of coating silica with polyethylene glycol on the adsorption of iron and phosphate ions in industrial wastewater was investigated. Variable factors were temperature and time of coating, PEG concentration, and PEG to silica ratio. Infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy were used to evaluate the chemical structure and morphology of PEG-coated silica. Optimum iron and phosphate ions removal efficiency was obtained using a coating temperature of 50°C, a coating time of 15 min, a PEG concentration of 20%, and a PEG to silica ratio of 1:3.

Quaternary ammonium salt namely 4-methyl-4-[2-(naphthalen-2-yl)-2-oxoethyl] morpholin-4-ium iodide (WSMPM) was synthesized and characterized. High molar absorptivity at 347 nm (1910 L・mol-1・cm-1) and good solubility in distilled water (10-2 M) allows WSMPM to be used as an effective photoinitiator also in water-soluble systems. Photopolymerization of acrylamide monomer with WSMPM (10-3 M) and a tertiary amine (N-methyldiethanolamine), resulted in 84.4% monomer to polymer conversion. Based on laser photolysis and electron spin resonance, a photoinitiator mechanism was proposed.

This article is a literature review related to the methods of functionalization of carbon fibers for tissue engineering applications. Through physical modification, it is possible to obtain a layer of a chemical compound on the carbon fibers surface and to impart additional properties. On the other hand, chemical modification may lead to the incorporation of appropriate functional groups into the carbon fiber structure, capable of attaching, among others, biologically active compounds. The paper presents the advantages and disadvantages of the carbon fibers modifying methods, with particular emphasis on the use of such modified fibers in medicine.

Zbadano handlowe dodatki uniepalniające na bazie Sb2O3. Wykazują one działanie akceptorowe, termostabilizujące i uniepalniające na linoleum z PVC. Na podstawie spektroskopii IR, analizy DTA, dyfrakcji oraz analizy fluorescencji rentgenowskiej stwierdzono, że jedna z próbek zawiera 100% Sb2O3, natomiast pozostałe zawierają mikrokrystaliczny CaCO3 (50-95%) oraz inne związki np. chloroorganiczne i węglowodory. Mechanizm uniepalniania linoleum z PVC polega na synergicznym działaniu Sb2O3 i CaСО3 poprzez wiązanie gazowego chlorowodoru powstającego podczas spalania i rozkładu termicznego PVC.

Polymerization conditions in the Pickering emulsion of colloidal silica-stabilized polystyrene latex were optimized. The influence of process conditions on various parameters, including particle size and distribution was investigated. Monomodal particles distribution was obtained by conducting the process at a temperature of 80°C in a slightly acidic environment (pH = 5), while maintaining fast monomer conversion. It has been shown that the amount of stabilizer used in the polymerization process affects the rate of polymerization, therefore the temperature of the process should be adjusted to the amount of colloidal silica used in the process.
