NOISE MODELLING AND NOISE MAPPING IN MECHANIZED OPENCAST COAL MINE - A CASE STUDY 机械化露天煤矿噪声建模与噪声制图——以实例为例

Increased mechanization has generated noise and vibration problems in opencast mines. Noise isgenerated by every activity or machinery present in the mines. Artificial Neural Network (ANN)and Adaptive Network-based Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) was applied to predictmachinerynoise in a mechanized opencast coal mine. This paper dealt with comparison of theprediction capabilities of ANN and ANFIS based soft computing models vis-Ã -vis existingstatistical model (ENM) in order to find the actual noise status in an opencast coal mine. From thepresent study, it could be concluded that ANFIS gave better prediction results than the ANN (MLPand BP) methods. This paper also includes the preparation of a noise map in the opencast mine usingtwo methods (Kriging and IDW) and ArcGIS.

The Industrial (MIDC) area of Badlapur and Dombivli have around 870 chemical and dyesmanufacturing Industries, these industries release numerous air pollutants in surroundingenvironment. This air pollutant content is required to be below the standard norms given byNAAQS. Ambient air monitoring station of MPCB monitors the Sulfur dioxide (SO2), Oxides ofNitrogen (NOx), and Respirable Suspended Particulate Matter (RSPM) regularly in the area. Theassessment was done at three sites, BIWA house Badlapur, CETP and MIDC Dombivli for theduration of three years from January 2018 – December 2020. Results obtained from the study haveshown that RSPM level of all the stations were decreased several fold amidst lockdown comparedto the previous years. The level of Sulfur dioxide and Oxides of Nitrogen were also drasticallydeclined during the lockdown period. Hence the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at all threestations is satisfactory to moderate for the year 2020.

IMPACT OF COVID-19 ON MEDICAL WASTE MANAGEMENT IN JORDAN 新冠肺炎对约旦医疗废物管理的影响

Although the direct impact of COVID-19 is on human health, it has substantial impacts oneconomic, social, cultural and environmental issues. The priority of the international efforts was to find a vaccine for COVID-19. The impacts on other sectors, such as medical waste management,have not been given the same attention, especially in Jordan. The purpose of this paper is todetermine the impact of COVID-19 on medical waste management in Jordan. The studyinvestigated the amount of waste generated in 2018 and 2020 in 54 facilities that generate medicalwaste. The results showed that the governmental implementations and curfew period havesignificant impacts on the amount of medical waste. The hospital that treats COVID-19 patients,private hospitals and institutions, showed an increase in the quantity of medical waste while thegovernmental hospitals, health care centers, laboratories, and industries showed a decrease inwaste generation during the year 2020. In some months, the amount of waste from COVID-19hospitals increased up to 3 folds in 2020 compared with 2018 data. Health care centers, labs,institutions and industries generated zero waste during the curfew period. It was recommended tokeep control and inspection on medical waste streams to avoid illegal disposal, or poor handlingand transportation measures.

The present investigation was aimed to analyse the water quality from Vaigai reservoir and pickupdam during 2017-2018. Heavy metals such as aluminum, cadmium, chromium, cobalt, copper, iron,nickel, lead and zinc were analysed in Vaigai reservoir and Pickup dam during 2017-2018. Ironshowed to be high followed by nickel and chromium in Vaigai reservoir while chromium was highfollowed by iron in Pickup dam. The maximum and average value of heavy metals present wasiron followed by chromium at both the sites. Among the heavy metals content, the lowest metalfound in these sites was zinc. In these sites aluminum, cadmium, chromium, iron, nickel and leadwere beyond the acceptable and permissible limits, while cobalt and copper were beyond theacceptable but within permissible limits. The highest average was chromium in Pickup dam andiron in Vaigai reservoir. Aluminium, cadmium, copper, nickel and lead are >5 and so it wasseriously affected based on the categories of water pollution index in both the sites. Metal contentin the study sites were found to be in the order of magnitude in Vaigai Reservoir as -Cd>Ni>Pb>Cr>Cu>Al>Fe>Zn and in Pickup Dam- Cd>Ni>Cr>Pb>Cu>Al> Fe>Zn.

SEASONAL CHANGES IN RESPIRATORY HEALTH STATUS OF ROAD-SIDE VENDORS IN INDUSTRIAL CITY GAJRAULA 工业城市加吉拉路边小贩呼吸道健康状况的季节变化

Traffic and industrial emission generate air pollutants which have been associated with respiratoryhealth symptoms of human beings. Although there is positive association between air pollutionand respiratory health, but the degree of association among different seasons varies due to thecomposition of different air pollutants. Present studies have been carried out to monitor and recordthe particulate and gaseous air pollutants (PM2.5, PM10, NO2 and SO2) in ambient air at IndraChowk, Gajraula (U.P.) during winter and rainy seasons. The level of PM2.5, NO2 and SO2 had beenfound significantly higher during winter as compared to the rainy season. Due to higher level ofair pollutants in ambient air, the incidence of respiratory diseases increased in winter seasons. Thesymptoms of cough, phlegm, headache and eye irritation had been found significantly higher inthe road-side venders during winter months as compared to other seasons of the year. However,their blood oxygen saturation had been recorded significantly higher during the rainy months.

This study aims to determine the maximum extent of pollution, caused by the leakage of Pentanefrom a storage tank within the transport and storage center (CSTF), located in HassiR’mel cityLaghouat province Algeria; To achieve the desired results, we relied on ALOHA® v. 5.4.7 software(Areal Locations of Hazardous Atmospheres) for accidents simulation, and Google Earth as anoutput tool to show results on the city map. The results prove that the city of HassiR’Mel is almostcompletely threatened by thermal effects resulting from a BLEVE phenomenon, which can reacha distance of 2.3 kilometers.

Water pollution is one of the most important problems nowadays. The entire world is facing thisproblem. Due to this problem, the living organism are affected everywhere. Industrial effluents,agricultural run-off, domestic sewage are some of the sources of water pollution. Various types ofpollutants are discharged in to the river body continuously. Shortage of clean drinking water andincreased demand due to rapid development of industrialization, the river water is becoming aburning issue everywhere. Here, Mula-Mutha River was analyzed for its physico-chemicalparameters in the year 2021. It is observed that, BOD, COD, chloride and magnesium are observedbeyond the limit.

In this study bio-accumulated levels of Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni and Pb in seven most popular North Indianleafy vegetables, spinach (Spanacia oleracea), bathua (Chenopodium album), chaulayi (Amranthspinosus), mustard (Brassica nigra), rayi (Brassica juncea), radish leaves (Raphanus sativus) andfenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum) collected from local venders were evaluated. The dailyintakes of metals (DIM) through consumption of these leafy vegetables were computed for testedmetals to quantify consumer health risk index (HRI). For the purpose of comparison, vegetablescultivated under ideal conditions in a walled garden were also tested for studied metals. The orderand accumulated levels of metals in leafy vegetables varied as: Pb (2.16-3.16) > Cr (1.54-2.84) > Cu(0.39- 0.94) > Ni (0.38-0.78) > Cd (0.33-0.51). However, the accumulated levels of tested metals invegetables cultivated in the walled garden were much lower and varied as: Pb (1.11-1.46) > Cr (0.66-1.22) > Cu (0.21- 0.42) > Ni (0.22-0.33) > Cd (0.19- 0.29). The order of computed consumers health riskindex (HRI) due to tested metals on dietary intake of studied vegetables collected from localvenders varied as: Pb (229.5 – 335.7) > Cd (140.2 – 216.7) > Ni (8.74- 14.73) > Cu (4.49- 10.82) > Cr(0.473- 0.872).

Noise is always an important aspect in the Aviation environment. Various airports are takingmeasures to reduce, mitigate the noise levels at the airports. Governments and aviation regulatoryagencies such as ICAO are also taking initiatives to reduce the same. As per the Balanced approach byICAO, one of the most important approaches is to mitigate the noise at the airport and an importantmeasure is noise barriers. In this research paper review, possibilities and options worked out foreffective noise barrier material has been studied. Along with that, noise measurement andmodelingalso plays an important role in deciding the location of noise barrier installation.Various materials such coco shell, rice husk, bagasse, and date palm material is studied by researchersto arrive at the conclusion regarding noise barrier in aviation.

EVALUATION OF REMEDIATION ABILITY OF PONGAMIA PINNATA (L.) PIERRE UNDER HEXAVALENT CHROMIUM STRESS SOIL CONDITIONS 六价铬胁迫土壤条件下羽状五倍子的修复能力评价

The increase in demands for industrial and mining products alters the conventional ecosystemapproach and attainment of sustainable development. Production of industrial products,processing of metals and protection of environment are intimately connected with one another andmake a challenge for sustainable growth and development of human-beings. In the industrial andmining environment, the release of heavy metals like hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)] in solid,liquid or gaseous states influence the soil health of the region. Its concentration exceeding thethreshold limits is highly toxic and expresses in the form of manifold health problems. The healthof crop plants and animal husbandry are not spared from its toxic effects. The Cr (VI) is a highlytoxic, mobile, inter-convertible form of chemical element mostly used in industrial applications forits tensile strength and anti-corrosion ability. The soil pollution due to high Cr(VI) load is anegative attribute of mining and industrial developmental activities. Restoration of soil quality inthese mining and industrial areas is highly essential for sustainable development and healthyliving. Confinement of this toxic element in the closed biological system is a move towardsreducing its load in the soil profile. In the present approach Pongamia pinnata (L.) Pierre isexperimented as a renewable closed biological system for improving the soil health of Cr(VI) richmining and industrial sites. In this experimental set up the assessment of Cr(VI) content in selectedparts of this experimental plant species and the rhizospheric soil of their growth was performedusing the standard methodologies of APHA (1998). The positive aspect of this approach is thesurvival of this species under high soil Cr(VI) concentration and differential accumulation of thistoxic element in this biotic system. The targeted plant species was able to accumulateapproximately 50 % of the soil Cr(VI) within a period of 135 days from the initiation of treatment.The order of accumulation of Cr(VI) was found to be root > leaf > stem. Compared to thelimitations of physical, chemical and microbiological techniques, this process is sustainable in thelong run, cheaper and has least negative interference with other components of the environment.Further work in this area has the possibility to improve the efficiency of Cr(VI) intake by thisliving system.
