Food plays a vital role to life by giving energy needed by the human body. But too much consumption may lead to diseases. Filipinos are known for their enjoyment of food. Almost 55% of the total population suffer from cholesterol issues and 35% of it died with hypertension. Multiple meta-analyses revealed that garlic help decrease blood pressure, and pressure-lowering impact is physiologically feasible. Garlic contains active sulfur compounds that proven to influence endothelium-relaxing and -constricting factors, resulting lower blood pressure. The study aims to formulate garlic candy in terms of ingredients, proportions, resources, and equipment. The main ingredient for this study was garlic known for lowering the high blood pressure. Other ingredients are milk, sugar, flour and artificial color to improve its appearance. The researchers perform three trials and error basis to determined which aspect of the output seeks improvement. By that they recorded the proper formulation for the garlic candy which based on the following; (1) aroma, (2) taste, (3) appearance and (4) texture. Using a developmental research, the result of the study has been recorded the following; the output has the percentage of 3.02 in terms of aroma, 3.30 in terms of taste, 3.12 in terms of appearance, 3.18 in terms of texture. After the evaluation the following are recorded; composite mean of 3.16% indicating the acceptable verbal interpretation, 6.95% for the protein, 6.77% for the total fats, 2.06% for the calcium, 18.65% for the allicin and 2.69% for the Vitamin B which are agent I lowering hypertension.

Improving the teaching practice of Science, Technology, and Society (STS) is the primary goal of this action research and it was done by developing STS Modules that incorporated the frameworks of UNESCO Transversal Competencies and UN Sustainable Development Goals, and Seamless Blended Digital Learning Modality (SBDLM). These modules were utilized to determine its effects on student’s Transversal Competencies, Conceptual Understanding, Sustainable Development & Solution-oriented Mindset, and on the perceptions of STS faculty members. This study utilized action research design to improve the STS teaching practice by developing and implementing STS Modules and evaluating their effects on the above-mentioned variables. Based on the results, the STS module contributed to the improvement of student’s conceptual understanding, inculcation of transversal competencies, and cultivation of sustainable development and solutions-oriented mindset. The modules are perceived by the students and virtual classroom observers as helpful as they assist the students to maximize learning even if there is minimal interaction between teachers and students because of the situations brought by COVID-19 pandemic. The study recommends continuous utilization of these STS Modules for its further improvement, modification of learning activities towards contextualization once these STS modules are adapted by future researchers in designing Seamless Blended Digital Learning Course Plan for flexible, agile, and responsive learning modality.

The study explores the levels of interest of undergraduate students in Co-curricular Activities and their level of Leadership skills about their gender, stream of education and locality. The investigator collected data from 160 Undergraduate students from different Degree colleges of Balasore municipality having arts and science as their streams of studies through stratified random sampling technique. The researcher used the self-made Interest Inventory on Co-curricular Activities and Leadership skill Questionnaire to collect data. The students’ responses were analyzed using Frequency and Percentage Analysis, Mean, Standard deviation, t-test, and Karl Pearson’s correlation method. The study reveals that irrespective of the factors like gender, locality and streams of education, majority of the Undergraduate students have medium levels of interest in co-curricular activities and Leadership skills. Gender seems to be associated with the students’ level of interest in Co-curricular Activities and Leadership skills. Female students are better in their interest in Co-curricular Activities and Leadership skills than the Male students. Further, it is observed that level of Leadership skills of the students depends highly on the interest in Co-curricular Activities, higher level of interest in Co-curricular Activities of the undergraduate students leads to higher Leadership skills.

The year 2020 was very challenging and pathetic due to the worldwide pandemic COVID-19. This pandemic caused a total halt to normal life. This was not only a medical issue, rather than sectors like the global economy, education, tourism, and many other sectors took disastrous damage and fell miserably. The educational institutions were closed immediately due to the wide-spreading infectiousness of the virus. But the situation was partially handled with the help of online curriculums and conferences. Bangladesh, like any other developing country, felt the urgency of taking the whole education system online. Confronting this miserable circumstance, the educational board of Bangladesh faced a lot of new problems arriving with the online system. Educational requirements were moved to web-based platforms in March 2020. This study is an attempt to illuminate and explore the problems and prospects regarding online education at the tertiary level in Bangladesh. The whole study explored the social, technical, and psychological obstacles that caused the behavioral, operational, and statistical changes that occurred to the system. It also attempts to show how the e-learning system can be improved in the future. An online survey-based questionnaire was created for collecting data from both the teachers’ and students’ perspectives. The findings were observed statistically and the result revealed that the participants have experienced many problems as well as some prospects can be found too which may make the online teaching and learning efficient. In the very end, some suggestions were recommended to develop the system further ahead.

Concrete is at a high risk of cracking which threats its durability. Self-healing bacterial concrete has been developed in recent years to tackle this issue and its effectiveness has been massively studied. However, bacteria need carriers and expanded clay is the most used as such, but it reduces concrete strength. Moreover, bacterial culture and immobilization processes are highly expensive; calcium salts also contribute to the high cost of this type of concrete. This work therefore aims to overcome these limitations. Calcium salts were collected from the chitosan production process from crab waste. In addition, we noticed that Betafo pozzolan contains an abundant number of microorganisms, and for the first time, we discovered that those microorganisms have polyextremophilic characters, are resistant to various sterilization methods, and allow the self-healing concrete process. We concluded that calcium salts from the crab, with those microorganisms are able to heal crack up to 350 µm wide, reducing the expenses related to nutrients, and eliminating those related to the growth and the immobilization of bacteria on carrier. Moreover, we pointed out that pozzolan significantly increases compressive strength by 90.04%. However, the behavior of those microorganisms and the pozzolanic reactions need to be further investigated.

Ateneo de Iloilo has conceptualized a 20-day review program entitled ADI-SMCS Training on Test Readiness for Admission to College (ATTRAC). This aimed to prepare students for entrance tests in top schools in the country. It covered 109 Grade 11 Atenean participants who joined ATTRAC. The data collected were statistically analyzed using measures of central tendencies, Shapiro-Wilk test for normality, paired sample t-test, and Pearson r at 0.05 level of significance. Qualitative triangulation was also made. The results showed that there is a significant difference between the overall pretest and posttest scores in the College Admission Test (p=0.00), showing progress from a pretest mean score of 78.57 to a posttest mean score of 114.33. Also, moderately positive and significant correlation (r=0.709) between the overall pretest and posttest scores was established. It also had high positive and significant correlation between the pretest and the posttest under English Test (r=0.751), while moderately positive and significant correlation was found between the pretest and posttest under Mathematics (r=0.591) and Reading (r=0.470) Tests. The pretest-posttest results of Science Reasoning Test registered a negligible and insignificant correlational value (r=0.121). Participants also revealed that time is their usual “enemy” during tests. They unanimously recognized the benefit of review to them, especially in reminding them of the basics, getting them used to different test designs, and practicing time-bound drills. ATTRAC was found to give positive results to SHS reviewers but it can still improve in its offerings, especially in science reasoning and test hacks.

In the “new normal,” a non-paper-and-pencil admission process becomes a challenge. This correlational analysis aims to choose possible admission candidates for SHS STEM strand by determining possible connections between the NCAE General Scholastic Aptitude (GSA), STEM Strand Preference (SSP), and Area of Occupational Interest (AOI), with the academic performance (AP) of STEM students of Ateneo de Iloilo (ADI) Senior High School (SHS). The study covered 124 STEM students data protection protocols. It showed that Ateneans have Proficient (85.6%; SD=3.13) AP and Above Average NCAE GSA (school: 93.95%; national: 37.87%) and SSP rating (90.92%). There is also a significant difference in the GWA if classified according to GSA (p=0.00), SSP (p=0.00), and AOI (p=0.031). There is a strong positive correlation (r=0.646, p=0.00) in the students’ GWA and GSA. The same was likewise observed in students’ Grade 11 performance (except PE) and their corresponding GSA areas: scientific ability, reading comprehension, verbal ability, mathematical ability, and logical reasoning ability. The study suggested that the direct relationship between NCAE and Grade 11 AP validates the efficacy of the NCAE instrument as guide in career/strand advising and in approximating students’ potential AP in Grade 11.

This descriptive-correlational study analyzed the guidance and counseling (GC) needs of the Junior High School (JHS) students in Iloilo City in order to develop a comprehensive program that would contextually address their needs. The study used a standardized Students Counseling Needs Questionnaire. It has 81 items divided into four domains: Academic, Personal/Social, Career, and Social Responsibility. 267 students participated in the survey representing 10 purposively-selected JHSs in the city. Statistical tools used for analysis are Mann-Whitney U Test, Kruskal-Wallis Test, and Spearman’s Rho at 5% confidence level for non-parametric inferential computations; while mean and standard deviation were used for descriptive analysis. Results revealed the following: Public Schools have Higher Perceived Needs for Guidance Counseling (HPNGC) than Private Schools; the higher the age of the students, the higher the Higher Perceived Need for Guidance Counseling; there is no significant difference in terms of parents’ educational status and occupation; there is a high significant difference between Public Schools and Private School in terms of Higher Perceived Needs for Guidance Counseling in Personal/Social Needs. The results showed that the needs of Junior High school students in Iloilo City are ranked as follows: Career, Social /Personal, Academic and Social Responsibility. With this, a 100-page expert-validated Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling Program (CGCP) was contextually designed for Iloilo City JHS students following a 4-pronged framework with focus on themes: Career, Personal/Social, Academic, and Social Responsibility. Further studies must be done in terms of the specific areas of concern affecting JHS students of Iloilo City and other similar areas where a program can be built upon making the offerings more purposive and contextual.

Descriptive research design was used in the study. Data from the 155 participants were gathered using the Perceptual Learning Styles Preference Questionnaire (PLSPQ) by Reid (1984) and the Strategy Inventory Language Learning (SILL) by Oxford (1990). Frequency, percentages, mean score, standard deviation, and Pearson Correlation were used in analyzing the data. Findings of the study showed that most of the participants are fourth year students, speak Ilocano and females. They studied in a public secondary school. It also showed that most of the participants used indirect strategies which include metacognition, being the most used strategy, followed by social and affective strategies. Furthermore, auditory learning is typically preferred, followed by kinesthetic and visual learning. Additionally, analysis shows a substantial correlation between the respondents’ profile factors and their language learning approaches and learning preferences. The study concludes that rather than requiring the cerebral processing of language learning, the participants promote language learning through focusing, planning, evaluating, seeking opportunities, reducing fear, boosting cooperation, and developing empathy. The students’ language learning methods and learning preferences are unaffected by the participant profiles.

This study aimed to assess the perceived effectiveness of the educational games and the overall performance of the students after it was introduced to them. A descriptive-comparative method of research was utilized. Respondents of this study were twenty-six (26) Grade-12 STEM students. Researcher-made validated questionnaire based on a 5-point Likert scale was used for data collection. The findings of this study revealed that the contents used for educational games were about the cell cycle and cell membrane. Most Essential Learning Competencies were focused on describing, identifying, relating, and explaining biology contents. All of the educational games were rated strongly agree by the respondents. Students enjoyed the games and increased their motivation, interest, cooperation, and participation which transcribed better performance in class. Individual mean scores per lesson indicate that students fully understood the cell cycle concept: mitosis and meiosis. However, further interventions are needed to fully comprehend the function of the cell membrane components and transport mechanisms in the cell. Data analysis also shows a significant difference in the respondent’s responses on the perceived effectiveness of educational games and their mean scores when grouped according to gender. On the other hand, there was no significant relationship between the perceived effectiveness of educational games and the performance of students. A proposed action plan was designed to further improve the effectiveness of educational games in enhancing students learning in General Biology 1. Also, the researcher recommends that teachers may try to develop their games using Lumi Education software.
