In this paper, we propose a novel feature extraction algorithm based on curvature analysis over the 3D data and the grayscale information extracted from the images. The performance of the method is tested on 3D mesh data, provided by Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter (MOLA) and compared to benchmark research work. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can achieve better accuracy in comparison with other crater detection methods and have smaller computational complexity.

Vehicle to infrastructure communications (V2I) are more and more common in nowadays Intelligent Transport Systems' applications dedicated to increasing safety and reducing driving stress, or to reducing environmental pollution. Telegrams exchanged between moving vehicles and road side units (RSUs) allow the delivery of updated information to traffic participants and gathering important data regarding the number of vehicles passing a certain section of a road, vehicle density on a road section, average speed etc. However, short-range radio communications, automatic handshaking / authentication are challenging features, especially when vehicles move with high velocity. Actual technologies include DSRC and IEEE 802.x standards, but sometimes these become crowded or saturated, preventing effective data exchange. Taking these into account, additional communications technologies such as Bluetooth and ZigBee have been field-tested to evaluate the possibility of supporting extended V2I messaging facilities. Results and recommendations are presented in the paper.

In this work a Neural Network Approach (NNA) for the design of high-Q active inductors (AIs) based active RF filters is presented. The proposed approach consists on the extraction of the S-parameters of an active device properly biased at different bias points by exploiting a neural network which allows to automatically determine the best solution for the design. In this way it is possible to define easily the best network configuration and filter order at the early design stage. As an example of application, a passband filter has been conceived following the proposed approach; it has been optimised for operating at 960 MHz with a 3 dB bandwidth of about 5 MHz and a very high slope factor.

We propose a method to determine approximate phase-integral analytical solutions for electric and magnetic fields in flat lenses with the refractive index varying in the radial direction. In our model the gradient of refractive index is approximated by a large number of concentric annuli with step-increasing index. Here the central part contributes to a bulk of the phase transformation, while the external layers act as a graded antireflective structure, matching the impedance of the lens to that of the free space. Such lenses can be modeled as compact composites with continuous permittivity and (if needed) permeability functions which asymptotically approach unity at the boundaries of the composite cylinder. We illustrate the phase-integral approach by obtaining the approximate analytic solutions for the electric and magnetic fields for a special class of composite designs with radially graded parameters.

In this paper, an effective approach for dental X-ray image enhancement for detection of caries on the base of location of the lesion is presented. It consists of contrast improvement by limited adaptive histogram equalization (CLAHE) and morphological processing. Then homomorphic wavelet filter is used to remove noise components and to eliminate non-uniformity luminance distribution. Comparative experimental results are given which show the visual quality and effectiveness of the proposed approach for application in clinical diagnostics.

This paper addresses cost issues in the process of content provisioning with partial cloud migration. Traffic workload is modelled depending on content popularity factor. Bandwidth demand is estimated using Monte Carlo simulation. Relevant parameter in this analysis is requests' rejection rate. Different cloud pricing plans are observed. Hybrid pricing plan as a compromising solution for costs' minimization and requests' rejection rate is proposed.

An approach of Domain Name System (DNS) protection against Distributes Denial of Services (DDoS) attacks is proposed. Radware attack mitigation solution called DefensePro is used in order to protect the DNS server of a data center. All the parameters concerning DNS was carefully selected. The efficiency of the proposed solution is verified experimentally.

The paper presents the computer simulation and the measurement results of the realized strip horn antenna intended for operation at 9–15 GHz range. The antenna is fabricated with 20 mm wide and 1 mm thick aluminum strips. The arms of the horn are 60 mm long while the aperture angle is 60. The excitation is performed through the SMA connector pin which is placed at the quarter wavelength distance from the short-circuited strip.

Class E outphasing systems have been demonstrated to have high efficiency over a wide range of output power levels. This high efficiency is achieved through load modulation of class E branch PAs over their optimal load line. In this work, we extend the analysis of class E outphasing to describe its performance as frequency varies. The frequency variation in the optimal loading trajectories of conventional class E PAs are compared to that of the power combining network to show the effects of frequency variation on efficiency and output power. For the conventional class E outphasing system modeled here, the operating bandwidth is found to be 17.5% for a dynamic range variation of 1dB.

In this paper, a possibility to use a multilayer perceptron neural network for the spatial localization of highly correlated mobile stohastic electromagnetic sources is considered. The neural model architecture for 1D DoA estimation of stochastic sources and the way of chosing the input data for the neural model by selecting the appropriate elements from the spatial correlation matrix are presented in the paper. Model accuracy is verified on the example of determining the angular position of two mobile stochastic sources moving along the 1D path and whose level of mutual correlation is within the range [0.8–0.95].
