This pilot study examines obstacles, facilitating factors, and indicators of change in implementing a psychotherapeutic care model for elderly residents with traumatic experiences in a senior care facility.Three qualitative focus group interviews were conducted with various staff groups (nurses, management, social care) from the facility and analyzed using qualitative content analysis.Key factors facilitating the model's success included improved interdisciplinary communication and professional and emotional support among team members. Main obstacles were communication challenges within the team and biases from family members. Several indications pointed to psychological improvements among residents. The newly developed treatment concept was successfully implemented in an initial model facility. Findings highlight the crucial role of nursing staff involvement in the psychotherapeutic care of residents in senior care settings.

Investigating the role of psychiatry in the context of the remand prison Berlin-HSH, as an instrument of state repression. The aim is to analyse the intertwining of medical care and political control using testimonies.Qualitative analysis of guided interviews with former political prisoners, treating doctors and a lawyer to capture individual perspectives on medical care and psychological support in the MfS detention centres. There are different perceptions: Doctors reported comprehensive initial examinations, while former inmates described deficits and a routine process without systematic recording of mental health aspects. Mental stress was often ignored and only treated with medication in emergencies in the event of acute breakdowns. The study highlights that medical care in the MfS remand prisons was inadequate and perhaps unintentional. The care system was more focused on control and surveillance than on welfare.

To provide a German-language translation of the Inappropriate and Excessive Guilt Scale (IEGS) for assessing proneness to inappropriate and excessive feelings of guilt in children and adolescents (7-16 years).Implementation of a multi-stage translation process according to established international criteria with two certified translators, including a standardized evaluation by interviewing N=10 children and adolescents. After revision of four of the 24 items, the translation of the IEGS was found to be generally well understood by the target group; however, younger children required more support in completing it.The German translation of the IEGS may be suitable for use in practice. The next step required for this is the provision of specific norm values, especially for the assessment of corresponding feelings of guilt in the context of depressive disorders.

Homicides in psychiatric clinics are rare, however recurring incidents; using administrative data, homicides for the years 2016 to 2024 in psychiatric clinics in Lower Saxony were analysed. 8 completed and 5 attempted homicides were reported. All incidents occurred in adult psychiatry, and all but one took place in closed acute care units. In the majority of cases, the offender entered the victim's patient room. Some victims were in a fragile somatic or mental state. The majority of offenders were voluntarily or under legal guardianship hospitalized. Conclusions: Homicides in psychiatric clinics are not typically committed by patients considered acutely dangerous to others. Therefore, acute care units need to place a stronger emphasis on victim protection: Patient room doors should be lockable from the outside to prevent unauthorized access. Patients with fragile somatic and mental health conditions needing higher care should be better protected.

Social media such as TikTok are gaining in popularity, but are subject to criticism. They offer opportunities but also risks for people with a mental illness. The question arises as to what content can be found in Germany and to what extent the topic of mental health is addressed on TikTok and what reactions follow.Three samples are collected over the course of a year. Videos, comments and descriptive data are analyzed on the basis of an evaluation catalog. There is a high level of use by people with a mental illness, with the diagnosis of anorexia predominating. Both the video content shown and the comments are largely positive. However, descriptive data shows an interest in problematic content.Social media can be used as a low-threshold offer of help. On platforms such as TikTok, experts can provide information and thus enable access to evidence-based knowledge.

In this study, the success of inpatient qualified withdrawal treatment in an age-specific setting was compared with that in a mixed-age setting.175 patients (137 male, average age 59.4 years) with different substance-related disorders were examined. Treatment success was defined as the regular termination of treatment.During the observation period significantly more elderly patients were admitted to the age-specific setting than to the mixed-age setting. Regardless of the treatment setting, more than 80% of patients completed withdrawal treatment regularly. For the overall group as well as for the subgroup of opioid dependent persons in maintenance treatment, withdrawal treatment was significantly more successful in an age-specific setting. The demographic development and these results speak in favor of the implementation of age-specific services for older patients with substance-related disorders.

Examine sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of individuals hospitalized under involuntary admission (FU) experiencing coercive measures (FM).Retrospective analysis of anonymized routine data from 14.856 inpatient cases in adult psychiatry from a larger Swiss canton. The study included sociodemographic and clinical characteristics.Over the four-year observation period, 29.9% of the 14'856 inpatient admissions occurred under FU, predominantly affecting older adults, individuals with lower education, and those from socially disadvantaged backgrounds. Organic mental disorders and schizophrenia exhibited the highest FU rates. Additional FM, such as seclusion, were used in 38.3% of FU cases. The FU rate increased significantly over the observation period, reaching 33% by 2023.FU and FM disproportionately affect individuals with severe mental illness, high symptom burden, distinct sociodemographic risk factors.

The Scale of Emotional Development - Diagnostic (SEED) is a standardized diagnostic instrument based on the emotional development approach. It contributes to the diagnostic assessment of challenging behaviors in individuals with intellectual developmental disabilities. The 200-item scale determines the emotional reference age from 0-12 years in 8 domains. An expert survey showed a very good to good observability of the described behaviors, the specificity for a certain developmental phase and the appropriateness of the phrasing for children and adults while the non-differentiability to adjacent developmental phases was rated with "hardly". Regarding the differentiability, the major need for revision was described in the domains Relating to Their Own Body, Dealing with Change - Object Permanence, Differentiating Emotions and Regulating Affect and in phases 4 (reference ages: 4-7 years) and 5 (reference age: 8-12 years).
