This paper presents the design and implementation of a didactic module for teaching process control techniques for electronics engineering students. The module is designed to teach the students how to control the flow and level of a process using different techniques such as On/Off control, PID control, cascade control, and others. The module provides three different interfaces with the process, manual control, a PLC interface with digital/analog input/output signals and a serial USB interface that connects the module with Matlab/Simulink and LabVIEW. The module was implemented with industrial valves both On/Off and proportional as actuators. Industrial level switches, a flow meter, and an ultrasonic level meter uses as sensors in order to provide students with first-hand experience with industrial equipment. This multi-purpose and multi-interface design makes the module a very flexible tool for teaching process control techniques. The entire process of design, implementation and test results are presented.

The Graduate Programs in Software department of the University of St. Thomas provides an avenue for people to pursue software related careers without regards to their prior technical background. This flexible program offers a realistic channel for individuals from underserved communities to make a career transition to software engineering or the data sciences. One of the challenges faced when working with students without a computer science, or engineering background is instructing them on quality software design. As students begin their study, it is critical they learn how to produce quality designs and write uncomplicated code. In this environment, the traditional method of lecture and passive note taking are not conducive to students acquiring the confidence needed to create quality, uncomplicated systems. In our investigation, three styles of active learning where performed and classes assessed to determine success. Results show that all three methods have a certain amount of benefit and that no single method should be exclusively used. This investigation determined that an active learning pedagogy was beneficial for successfully teaching students in this environment.

It includes results of a mobile app development and validation process made for children of pre school education in the indigenous community Centro Arenal (Huitoto ethnic group), to learn the basic content of their parents' native language through mobile devices (cell phones and tablets). And once that strengthen their cultural identity. Since 10 years ago Loreto is the last in educational indicators. In the Peruvian Amazon, 43 official languages are spoken, 27 of them in Loreto (all the Amazonian languages are in danger of disappearing). The intercultural bilingual education system is very limited (single-parent, multi-grade and multi-course) also, there is not educational content printed in indigenous languages. The results were favorable, being the application a relevant alternative, usable and accessible for educational institutions and Huitoto families.

This work's objective is to apply the Flipped Learning technique, Project-Based Learning and Cooperative Learning methodologies, in Computer Networks course at Pontifical Catholic University of Perú. The work was developed with students three consecutive years: 2016, 2017 and 2018; templates of face-to-face and non-face-to-face sessions were designed and subsequently evaluated as well as measuring instruments; teaching-learning activities were developed and executed. Results indicate effectiveness in students learning: 100% of them passed the course with 14,75 average grade, higher than previous years. Group surveys results on the use of the technique and applied methodologies show 3,8 average in a 1 to 5 scale; and a 4,7 average in the coevaluation. As conclusion, the use of this model and combined methodologies in the studied case made face-to-face classes more dynamic with more participation and commitment, the teaching-learning process was improved, and the teacher's facilitator role was materialized.

As engineering and computing students enter their professional careers, many current job opportunities are found in entrepreneurial organizations with strong cultures of innovation. In preparing for these occupations, students benefit from having a knowledge of the concepts of disruptive innovation and the skills that enhance the ability to ideate - to conceive of or form new ideas. This presentation examines strategies for integrating these concepts and discovery skills into 21st Century curricula.

The present article describes the process that was followed to develop a prototype of a functional wind turbine, as well as some results, both of the learnings and prototypes. The project emerged to address several situations, one of them is to investigate and learn one way of electric power can be generated by means of sustainable technologies. It was considered that designing and building a wind turbine would allow the students of the subject of Physics II of the Tecnologico de Monterrey Morelia campus to better understand the concepts (fluid mechanics and thermodynamics) addressed in the course. The students, by teams, built three different types of wind turbines and after making measurements on different variables they chose the model they considered optimal. After the experimentation it was seen that the students considered the construction of the wind turbine to be very relevant for their learning.

This paper has the goal to discuss the aspects of Engineering and Computing paradigms. In other words, it is to have a look and ponder the importance of engineering for the welfare of human kind. It is to think about the art and the endeavor of many people whose talent is problem solve. No matter the challenge the fact is that by the comprehension of Physics Law and the use of mathematics as a toll, engineers are able to overcome any challenge. Just look to the History and how it is full of brilliant minds pushing the limits of co-creation with the creation force that is the source of everything. By understanding the nature of things and looking at obstacles as the propeller for betterment. That is engineering and that is what makes the world goes around a joint venture with all the sciences that complete the world scenario.

Artificial intelligence as a support technique for university learning 人工智能作为大学学习的支持技术

Currently, universities seek to improve academic methods that come from a traditional model. Traditional models base learning on the experience of teachers and the development of activities. Studies carried out in the educational field consider that not all activities generate knowledge in students. The activities must adapt to the needs of each student to build an efficient model that contributes to learning. To solve this problem, education experts support academic management in the use of information and communication technologies. The inclusion of techniques such as the analysis of educational data and artificial intelligence identify the deficiencies and needs of students. This work proposes the design of an expert system that interacts with students and evaluates their responses with those of data analysis systems to reach a conclusion and recommend activities that align with the needs of each student.

Work-in-Progress: Application of Cooperative Learning in E-Learning-Based Laboratory Classes 合作学习在基于电子学习的实验课中的应用

In this paper, we present the application of two cooperative learning methods in e-learning laboratory classes for mechanical engineering students. The program Mechanical Engineering Online at Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences offers the possibility to combine studies with work and family life. One problem in online programs is the high risk that students will drop out. Factors influencing the dropout rate are e.g. the students' level of interaction in the learning process, the responsibility they feel as well as their sense of community with the other students. We describe how the jigsaw technique and problem-based learning were applied to make the students actively and with a high level of responsibility participate in web conference-based laboratory classes. Furthermore, based on the experimental in-class-usage, we discuss first findings, aware of the work-in-progress-status of the project.

The assessment of competences, within the accreditation activities and continuous improvement of the engineering programs, is a process that must be seen as a continuous and organized procedure. Thus, in the first semester of 2018, the measurement of Student Outcome “d” was developed: “To work in various teams and multidisciplinary environments”, through a self-assessment of the work teams of the Integrated Project course (PI in Spanish), to verify at what level of achievement this competence is being met. For this purpose, a rubric that was initially formalized by the board of experts was used, and it was applied in a practical way at the end of the course with the students of the PI course (95 students) to verify the scope of this competence as shown in the results obtained. The analysis of the rubric worked with the performance indicators shows a good correlation between the considered evaluation criteria.
