Feasibility and conditions for the attainment of high output energy characteristics from a pulsed chemical HF laser utilizing an SF6–HI mixture 利用SF6-HI混合物实现脉冲化学HF激光器高输出能量特性的可行性和条件

An investigation was made of the feasibility and conditions for the attainment of high output energy characteristics from an electron-beam-initiated SF6–HI laser. A specific output energy of 8 J/liter was achieved. The maximum output energy per pulse from an SF6–HI laser was found to be higher than that from an SF6–H2 laser. The presence of an external static magnetic field, inhibiting scattering of the initiating electrons, did not increase the maximum laser pulse energy.

Method of determining nonlinear optical susceptibilities of materials 材料非线性光学敏感性的测定方法

A method of determining nonlinear susceptibilities of optically nonlinear media is proposed. This is based on a dependence of the period of the spatial beats of the amplitude of a harmonic on the fundamental-frequency radiation intensity at high conversion efficiencies. An accurate description of this method can be obtained using the constant-intensity approximation.

An experimental investigation was made of multispike lasing regimes in various pulsed Nd3+ lasers Q-switched using a movable passive switch based on an yttrium scandium gallium garnet crystal containing Cr4+ ions. The results indicate that these passive switches should make it possible to develop Nd3+ lasers with high average and peak powers.

A double phase-conjugating mirror in a photorefractive barium strontium niobate crystal was studied experimentally. Apart from a shift of the transverse distribution of the scattered beams relative to the pump beams, the ratio of the scattered beam powers depended sublinearly on the ratio of the pump beam powers. The experimental results were interpreted using a two-dimensional model.

The results are presented of an experimental investigation of various factors influencing the angular distribution of electron-beam-controlled CO laser radiation as a function of the type of resonator. It is shown that the diffraction-limited divergence may be achieved using a phase-conjugating resonator.

Amplification of external radiation in a semiconductor laser in the lasing state 半导体激光器在激光状态下的外辐射放大

Equations are derived to describe a semiconductor laser with injection of external radiation. The case of small signal amplification is analyzed in detail. It is shown that the transmission spectrum of a laser in the lasing state has side maxima separated from the natural resonance by several gigahertz. The results of an experimental study of this phenomenon are presented. A satisfactory agreement between the theoretical and experimental results is demonstrated.

A monostatic biaxial Doppler lidar apparatus was made utilizing a hybrid CO2 laser with an intracavity telescopic beam expander. The energy per laser pulse was 10 mJ, the pulse duration was 3–5 μs, and the pulse-repetition frequency was up to 10 Hz. The lidar was intended for measuring the radial component of the wind velocity in the lower troposphere with a probing range of 3–6 km.

An algorithm similar to that proposed by Gerchberg and Saxton is discussed. It requires a knowledge of one-dimensional intensity distributions in two beam cross sections separated by a finite distance in order to reconstruct the phase. The results of a numerical reconstruction of the phase from experimental data are presented.
