The aim of this study is to examine the errors and misconceptions of 8th-grade students on visual and algebraic expressions. The study group consists of 120 middle school students studying in the eighth grade in Afyonkarahisar province. Data were collected with an algebra test consisting of multiple-choice and four written answers question that require an algebraic expression of simple visual and shape patterns. Data were analyzed with descriptive and content analysis. As a result of the research, it was determined that students who could not establish a relationship between algebra and geometric shape had difficulty in understanding algebraic expressions and could not transit from the pattern to the algebraic equation. In addition, it was observed that the errors in simple visual and algebraic expressions of the students were caused by incorrect algebraic operation selection, ignoring parentheses in algebraic expressions, misinterpreting the shape pattern, and arithmetic operation error. In order to facilitate the transition from arithmetic to algebra, it is recommended to use more perceptible materials and visuals in algebra teaching.

The purpose of this study is to determine the status of use of primary sources in history courses in undergraduate programs. A descriptive survey method was adopted in the study in which qualitative data collection method and tools were used. The sample of the research consisted of 27 lecturers who taught history courses in Kazım Karabekir Faculty of Education in Ataturk University, Faculty of Letters in Ataturk University and Faculty of Letters in Erzurum Technical University and 70 students who were at the 4th grade of the history education and history departments in these faculties in the 2016-2017 academic year. In the research, semi-structured interview form and open-ended questionnaire form were used together as data collection tools. The data obtained in the study were analysed via content analysis. As a result of the study, it was revealed that the lecturers in their lessons used variety of sources. However, it was determined that they used these sources traditionally in the lessons and they did not use them to develop higher-order thinking skills as explained in literature. In addition to this, the findings obtained both from the lecturers and students revealed that the practical studies about primary sources were limited, student-centred activities were not preferred much, and lecturers mostly showed visuals and introduced them. It is seen that the education that teacher candidates received is not sufficient to use primary sources for educational purposes in secondary education classes.

Kitapta yer alan tum metinler (ders anlatimlari, etkinlikler, okuma parcalari) cumle cumle incelemeye alinmis, her bir cumle icindeki, degerlere karsilik gelen sozcukler, belirtilen degerleri aciklayan ifadeler ya da dogrudan veya ortuk anlami veren cumleler alinmistir. Elde edilen verilere gore 11. sinif biyoloji ders kitabinda sorumluluk degerine yer verilmekle birlikte en cok bireysel sorumluluk irdelenmistir. Sosyal ve cevresel sorumluluk ise bireysel sorumluluktan sonra yer almistir. Sonuc olarak sorumluluk degerinin kazandirilmasinda biyoloji ders kitabinda yer alan metinlerin de burada onemli bir rol oynadigi gorulmektedir. Bu nedenle ders kitaplarinda yer alan metinler, ogrencilere degerlerin ogretilmesinde icin etkili araclar arasinda yer almaktadir. Bu calismada on birinci sinif ogrencilerinin “Sindirim Sistemi” konusundaki bilgilerini olcmeye yarayan bir basari testi gelistirilmesi amaclanmistir. Kesfedici karma arastirma deseni ile yurutulen calismanin nitel basamaginda dokuman incelemesi yontemi, nicel basamaginda ise tarama yontemi kullanilmistir. Buna gore oncelikle arastirmacilar tarafindan alan yazin taranmis ve toplam 40 adet coktan secmeli soru hazirlanmistir. Testin gecerlik calismalarinda uzman gorusune basvurulmus, boylece hazirlanan taslak testteki sorular alaninda uzman akademisyen ve ogretmenlerin gorusune sunularak dil, kapsam, anlasilabilirlik vb. acilardan incelenmistir. Uzman gorusu dogrultusunda duzeltilen 40 soruluk test madde analizi icin 201 on birinci sinif ogrencisine uygulanmistir. Ogrencilerden elde edilen verilere yapilan madde analizi sonrasi sorular icin duzeltme/cikarma yoluna gidilmistir. Madde analizi sonrasi 25 maddeye indirilen testin ortalama guclugu 0.564, ortalama ayirt ediciligi 0.343 olarak hesaplanmistir. Daha sonra 126 kisilik farkli bir ogrenci grubuna uygulanan basari testinin KR-20 guvenirlik katsayisi ise 0.91 olarak hesaplanmistir. Elde edilen bulgular genel olarak degerlendirildiginde, ogretim programinda kazanimlara uygun sorular iceren, gecerli ve guvenilir bir test oldugu soylenebilir.
