Objective: The purpose of this study is to report the clinical improvement of aggravated functional dyspepsia due to COVID-19 with Korean medicine treatment. Methods: To assess treatment outcomes, we used the GIS (Gastrointestinal Symptom Score), European Quality of Life-5 Dimensions (EQ-5D) scale, and Numeral Rating Scale (NRS).Results: After treatment, the patient’s clinical symptoms improved, as indicated by GIS, EQ-5D, and NRS scores. Conclusions: Korean medicine treatment improved late complications in COVID-19 patients. This finding suggests the possibility of Korean medicine treatment for long-term COVID infections.

Objectives: The aim of this study is to report the effectiveness and safety of herbal medicine treatment for abdominal pain with acute kidney injury. Methods: A 80-year-old female patient presented with abdominal pain. Blood test results showed increased blood urea nitrogen, serum creatinine, amylase, and lipase. The patient was treated with acupuncture and herbal medicine, specifically Hyangsayukgunja-tang-gahwangryeon for 4 days and Gagam-gunbi-tang for 11 days. Gastrointestinal symptoms were assessed using the Numerical Rating Scale, Gastrointestinal Symptom Rating Scale, and abdominal examination. Results: Gastrointestinal symptoms improved after taking Korean herbal medicine. Additionally, blood urea nitrogen, serum creatinine, amylase, and lipase levels showed improvement compared to values before treatment. Conclusions: Korean medicine treatment can improve clinical symptoms without damaging the kidneys of patients with acute kidney injuries.

Objectives: The aim of this study is to describe the effects of traditional Korean medicine treatment on a patient with vascular dementia caused by an intracerebral hemorrhage. Methods: The patient was treated with herbal medicine (modified Guibi-tang) and acupuncture. The effects of these treatments were evaluated using the Korean Mini Mental Status Examination (K-MMSE-2), Cognitive Dementia Rating (CDR), Manual Muscle Test (MMT), Korean version of Modified Barthel Index (K-MBI), and Videofluoroscopic Swallow Study (VFSS).Results: After treatment, the K-MMSE-2 score, CDR score, MMT, K-MBI, and VFSS improved. Conclusion: The results suggest that traditional Korean medicine may be effective for the symptoms of vascular dementia caused by intracerebral hemorrhage.

Objectives: The aim of this case report is to present the effects of Korean medicine treatment in a patient with left facial paraesthesia, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain, and post-traumatic neck pain induced by cerebral infarction. Methods: A 26-year-old male patient was treated with Cheongpa-Jeon H, acupuncture, pharmacopuncture (Shinbaro2), and Chuna Therapy for 24 days of hospitalization. Left facial paraesthesia, TMJ pain, and post-traumatic neck pain were assessed with a Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) and EuroQoL-5 Dimension (EQ-5D). Post-traumatic neck pain was assessed using the Neck Disability Index (NDI).Results: After 24 days of treatment, the patient’s left facial paraesthesia and left arm tingling sensation were relieved from NRS 6 to NRS 2. Left TMJ pain was reduced from NRS 5 to NRS 2. The EQ-5D score increased from 0.138 to 0.73. The NDI score decreased from 71.11 to 37.78.Conclusion: These results show that left facial paraesthesia, TMJ pain, and post-traumatic neck pain can be relieved with Korean medicine treatment. However, further well-designed studies are required to confirm these findings.

Objectives: This study reports on the effect of Korean medicine treatment, including Soeumin Bojungikgitang-gagambang, on a patient with postherpetic neuralgia. Methods: The patient received Korean herbal medicine, pharmacopuncture treatment, and acupuncture treatment for 22 days. We assessed changes in symptoms due to the treatment using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), the McGill Pain Questionnaire-Short Form (SF-MPQ), and the European Quality of Life-5 Dimensions (EQ-5D) scale. We also measured the Leeds Assessment of Neuropathic Symptoms and Signs (LANSS) to distinguish neuropathic pain. Results: After treatment, the patient showed decreased NRS, SF-MPQ, and EQ-5D scores. Conclusion: The results indicate that Korean medicine treatment, including Soeumin Bojungikgitang-gagambang, is an effective management of symptoms in patients with postherpetic neuralgia.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to report the effectiveness of Korean medicine treatment on postoperative state patients with cervical spinal cord injury due to ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament. Methods: A 55-year-old Korean male patient diagnosed with cervical spinal cord injury due to ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament was treated in an inpatient setting with Korean medicine treatment consisting of herbal medicine, acupuncture, and others from May 22 to August 21. The outcome was evaluated with the American Spinal Injury Association Impairment Scale (AIS), Spinal Cord Independence Measure-Ⅲ (SCIM-Ⅲ), modified Japanese Orthopaedic Association scale (mJOA), Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) before and after, or during the treatment period. Results: After 92 days of treatment, the patient’s scores on all scales improved. Conclusion: The results suggest that Korean medicine treatment may be effective for postoperative patients with cervical spinal cord injury due to ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament. Further studies should be conducted on a larger number of patients.

Background: According to Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System data, generalized edema followed by the COVID-19 vaccine is uncommon, with only 333 reported cases, and of those, 224 (69%) are associated with the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.Case report: A 76-year-old male patient with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction presented with spontaneous generalized edema and otherwise normal cardiac exams following administration of BNT162b2 (Pfizer-BioNTech) COVID-19 vaccination that had lasted for approximately 60 days and was treated successfully using Korean medicine treatment. After the administration of Korean medicine treatment, the patient’s symptoms in the bilateral limbs were dramatically controlled, without recurrence, for 2 months. As a result, generalized edema, which had been present for approximately 50 days, dramatically improved. Conclusion: This clinical case study suggests that a Korean medicine approach with Mokbangki-tang and Oryeong-san might be effective for the pleural effusion resolution of generalized edema after COVID-19 vaccination.

The purpose of this study is to report clinical improvement in patients who have received Korean medicine treatment for post-COVID-19 conditions. After COVID-19 infection, two people complaining of symptoms, such as fatigue and indigestion, were treated with Korean medicine, such as acupuncture and herbal medicine. The C19-YRS questionnaire and heart rate variability (HRV) were used to assess the treatment outcomes. After treatment, the patients reported improvements in their symptoms on the YRS questionnaire, with some improvement in the HRV test results. According to the results of this study, Korean medicine can be used to treat post-COVID-19 conditions in clinical practice.
