The purpose of this study is to report the case of a patient with idiopathic Parkinson’s disease treated with scalp acupuncture and Chuna manual therapy. A total of 10 sessions of scalp acupuncture and Chuna manual therapy were performed. At the beginning of the treatment, the Korean version of modified Barthel index (K-MBI) was 25 points, and the range of motion (ROM) of both knee joints was 150° in passive flexion, while active movement was impossible. In addition, both knee joints were flexed and contracted at -40° on the right and -30° on the left. Over the course of treatment, the ROM of both knee joints improved to -20° on the right and -10° on the left. The patient was even able to maintain a standing position and was allowed to walk approximately 10 steps with support. Temporary improvement was observed as a result of applying scalp acupuncture treatment and Chuna manual therapy to a patient whose symptoms were gradually worsening.

Introduction: Chronic subdural hemorrhage (CSDH) primarily affects the elderly, and its incidence is rising due to aging trends. Although burr-hole craniostomy is a common treatment for CSDH, it often has a high recurrence rate and can sometimes result in poor outcomes. Oryeong-san, a traditional Korean medicine, is emerging as a potential remedy, with documented cases in both Korea and Japan.Case Presentation: In March 2021, a patient was diagnosed with an intracerebral hemorrhage in the left basal ganglia. A subsequent brain computed tomography in June 2022 revealed CSDH. Given the potential need for surgery if no CSDH absorption occurred, the patient was treated with Oryeong-san. Later computed tomography scans indicated that surgery was no longer necessary.Conclusions: This study evaluated the efficacy of Oryeong-san in treating CSDH. The results demonstrated complete CSDH absorption with no observed side effects, highlighting Oryeong-san as a promising and safe therapeutic option.

The purpose of this study is to report a case of cervical dystonia and the effects of a series of traditional Korean medicine treatments applied to the patient. The patient was treated with conventional treatment and traditional Korean medicine consisting of acupuncture, moxa, chuna therapy, and herbal medicine (Hoesu-san-gami) for 48 days. Progress was measured by Tsui’s score, the Toronto Western Spasmodic Torticollis Rating Scale, and the Neck Disability Index. We observed some improvements in the patient’s symptoms: Tsui’s score of 15 to 11, TWSTRS of 63.3 to 47.8, and NDI of 24 to 17. These findings indicate that the application of traditional Korean medicine to cervical dystonia can yield decent clinical outcomes.

We observed some improvements in the patient’s symptoms: Tsui’s score of 15 to 11, TWSTRS of 63.3 to 47.8, and NDI of 24 to 17. These findings indicate that the application of traditional Korean medicine to cervical dystonia can yield decent clinical outcomes.","PeriodicalId":22826,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of Internal Korean Medicine","volume":"4 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139310085","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
