Distribution system optimal planning has been an issue of great priority for utilities, mainly because it is the most vulnerable component in the power system cycle, accounting for a greater percentage of loss in the system. With investment in new electrical facilities continuing to be very expensive, techniques and methods of reduction of active and reactive power losses have been adopted over the years. Apparently, loss reduction and voltage control in distribution networks can be achieved by proper placement and sizing of capacitors. This paper presents a technical and economic solution approach, considering the practical placement of fixed and switched capacitors that is easy to implement using real data and optimization procedure. The procedure is tested on the IEEE 33 bus system and applied to a real distribution network of Freetown (Sierra Leone) with the objective of reducing the total active loss and the annual cost of the system, using particle swarm optimization technique in MATLAB.

A SPICE model of metal oxide based resistive random access memory (RRAM) devices is demonstrated in this paper having bipolar switching characteristics and utilizing carbon nanotube field effect transistor (CNTFET) in a 1T1R configuration. The growth and the dissolution of the conductive filament in the oxide layer is the basis of the switching mechanism in this model. The model has been implemented in HSPICE simulation software for circuit level analysis. Initially, the simulation of memory cell with CNTFETs is carried out and later on 3*3 memory matrix is analyzed. The proposed design shows a reduction in power consumption as compared to RRAM cell utilizing metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET) in a 1T1R configuration.

Ceramic insulators consists of glass and porcelain are the traditional insulator that have been used until today in electrical power transmission line. These insulators are the most significant part as electrical insulation that prevents electrical current flow directly to the ground through the transmission tower or pole. However, there are a few stresses that interrupt the systems. Thus, knowledge of about voltage and electric-field in insulators are needed to maintain transmission or distribution grid performance and to ensure the consistency of optimal output power levels delivered to the consumers. An attempt has been made to simulate the voltage and electric field distribution of 33 kV porcelain insulators using finite element method (FEM). Based on simulation results, it is found that the bottom part (pin) of the insulator is the most sensitive area of electric stress. Meanwhile, the electric field and voltage distribution is decreased when moving towards cross arm.

A real time motion of moored FPSO in side-by-side configuration for regular wave is simulated in ANSYS AQWA to evaluate the structure motion responses and cable forces under criteria and operational wave conditions for two sea-state. The mooring failure is simulated wherein whole cable tensile forces are calculated. Downtime occurs when the vessel motion and cable responses in operating wave conditions exceed the safe limiting values. With the help of a real time wave scatter diagram of three different locations in Malaysian waters, the probability occurrences are obtained and finally a novel study on the downtime cost analysis for offloading operations is performed considering structure responses and mooring failure conditions. In this paper, a successful attempt has been made to connect vessel motion responses to cost. This paper evaluates the possible downtime cost and economical risks involved in the different locations of Malaysian waters for offloading operations.

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is a persistent provocative ailment that effects and decimates the joints of wrist, finger, and feet. If left untreated, one can lose their ability to lead a normal life. RA is the most typical fiery joint inflammation, influencing around 1-2% of the total populace. Throughout the years, soft computing played an important part in helping ailment analysis in doctor's decision process. The main aim of this study is to investigate the possibility of applying machine learning techniques to the analysis of RA characteristics. As a preliminary work, a credible database has been identified to be used for this research. The database has outputs of array temperature values from thermal imaging for the joints of hand. Furthermore, this database which consists of 8 attributes and 32 instances, are used to determine the performance in terms of accuracy for the classification of different algorithms. In this preliminary work, ensemble algorithms such as bagging, AdaBoost and random subspace with base classifier such as random forest and SVM were trained and tested using the assessment criteria such as accuracy, precision, sensitivity and AUC using Weka tool. From the preliminary finding of this paper, it can be concluded that with base classifier SVM, bagging has better classification accuracy over the others and with base classifier random forest Adaboost slightly outperformed other models for rheumatoid arthritis dataset.

Character recognition is one of the most critical parts of many computer vision system. And many studies have explored character recognition as two subcategories: character recognition in optical images, character recognition natural images while this separation was to achieve high accuracy in each field separated but it needs more hardware resources to operate two models one for each area. In addition to that most researches divided each field into (digits recognition, character recognition) that add extra cost in both time and hardware resources also we found that both areas still have room for accuracy improvement. This paper tackles the problem of the two subclasses by building one robust, accurate classifier using a convolutional neural network that can recognize (characters and digits) accurately in both optical and natural scene images, the proposed model has been trained on a combination of EMNIST and Char74k data sets with a random data augmentation. The proposed model achieved 92% accuracy in EMINST compared to previous works shows that the proposed model has the highest accuracy among all the previous works based on EMNIST data set. We also tested the model on none-seen data sets (ICDAR203) and the obtained results indicate the high generality and the robustness of the classifier.

Wireless Mesh Networks (WMN) are becoming inevitable in this world of high technology as it provides low cost access to broadband services. Moreover, the technologists are doing research to make WMN more reliable and secure. Subsequently, among wireless ad-hoc networking technologies, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) is gaining high degree of importance among researchers due to its easy availability in the gadgets and low power consumption. BLE started its journey from version 4.0 and announced the latest version 5 with mesh support capability. BLE being a low power and mesh supported technology is nowadays among the hot research topics for the researchers. Many of the researchers are working on BLE mesh technology to make it more efficient and smart. Apart from other variables of efficiency, like all communication networks, mesh network security is also of a great concern. In view of the aforesaid, this paper provides a comprehensive review on several works associated to the security in WMN and BLE mesh networks and the research related to the BLE security protocols. Moreover, after the detailed research on related works, this paper has discussed the pros and cons of the present developed mesh security mechanisms. Also, at the end after extracting the curx from the present research on WMN and BLE mesh security, this research study has devised some solutions as how to mitigate the BLE mesh network security lapses.
