The Kygyltasian Regional Stage is widespread throughout the Verkhoyansk Region, where it reflects a large transgressive-regressive cycle of the Verkhoyanian terrigenous sedimentation. Over the years, a huge amount of material has been accumulated on biostratigraphic division, facies features, and paleontological characteristics of this large stratigraphic unit, but its age is still debatable. The main fossils in the upper part of the Kygyltasian Regional Stage are higher plants, the remains of which were studied in the last century using outdated taxonomy. This study is devoted to revision of the collection of fossil plants from the type locality of the Kygyltasian Regional Stage (Western Verkhoyanie) in order to clarify the taxonomic composition and the age of the Upper Kygyltasian floristic association. The dominant cordaite leaves in the association were studied using the morphological and microstructural methods. This made it possible to clarify the previous paleontological definitions of the genus Noeggerathiopsis and bring them in line with modern taxonomy. The species Noeggerathiopsis heteroclitus Tolstych and N. khorokytica Tolstych were validated for type specimens. The following species were identified from the Upper Kygyltas Subformation of the Khorokyt section: Cordaites heteroclitus (Tolstych), C. cf. neuburgae Gluchova, C. cf. zalesskyi Durante, C. krychtofovichii (Radczenko), Cordaites ? khorokytica (Tolstych), Cordaites sp. sp. sp. sp. Rufloria ( Praerufloria ) Sphenophyllum cf. Sphenophyllum ? sp., Sphenopteris sp., Paracalamites sp. Based on the results of the study, the Upper Kygyltasian floristic association of the Western Verkhoyansk Region was compared with floristic associations of the Alykaeva Formation (Kuzbass) and the Upper Kata Subformation (Tunguska basin). From the above, the Late Carboniferous age of the upper part of the Kygyltasian Regional Stage follows. The results obtained are in good agreement with the correlation of the Verkhoyanian Carboniferous-Permian deposits for marine invertebrates.

The variability of the dermal elements of the pectoral girdle (clavicle, interclavicle), as the most morphologically informative part of the postcranial skeleton in the archegosaurid amphibian Platyoposaurus from the Middle Permian of Eastern Europe, was studied. Based on the considered morphological characters of the clavicle and interclavicle in P. watsoni , the increasing complexity of ornamentation of the dermal elements (a growth of the cellular area in the ossification center as additional cells appear, more complex branching of the radial grooves) with size was established for the first time using the morphometric parameters. The age-related ornament transformation favored the acquisition of additional strength with an increase in the load on the shoulder girdle during the growth process and in the body weight. It was found that the structural characters of the cellular area and radial ridges and also the morphometric parameters (lateral inclination angle of the dorsal process, the ratio of the width of the interclavicle plate to its length from the posterior end to the ossification center) can serve as additional diagnostic features to distinguish both Platyoposaurus from others archegosauroids and between the species of the genus under consideration. Individual differences were detected mainly in the analysis of the structure of the dorsal process of the same-sized clavicles: the lamina posterior is straightened or arcuate; the lamina anterior is straight or arcuate.

This paper discusses the latest trends in studying and using biosurfactants, surfactant biomolecules produced by microorganisms. Biosurfactants were considered as an alternative to synthetic surfactants. The basic principles of producing, screening and characterizing biosurfactants were reviewed. Their physicochemical properties were singled out. The modern understanding of a relationship between the properties of biosurfactants and their practical use was analyzed. Particular attention was paid to the research works focused on the potential use of biosurfactants, as well as the current and major challenges of their production and application in the real sector of economy. The already existing world biosurfactant market was described. An outlook on its possible future development was provided.

The oil and gas potential prospects of the Magnitogorsk trough in the South Urals were studied and substantiated using the data of the geological survey and deep-well drilling. Based on the results of the seismic, gravity, and magnetic explorations, a large unit was detected in the Lower-Middle Carboniferous carbonates of the Kizil zone. The oil and gas blowouts were registered in the drill holes. To further explore the oil and gas potential of the region, the features of black shales were analyzed. It was shown that the Kumak ore field shales are promising sources of oil, depression analogues of the Lower-Middle Carboniferous shelf carbonates. Therefore, we recommend that the black shales of the South Urals should be further studied for their oil and gas potential. The major tasks for future research are as follows: localization of facies of the carbonate sedimentation basin within the Magnitogorsk trough and the East Urals uplift, as well as development of its geological and geophysical model; assessment of the oil and gas potential prospects of the region with the help of the developed model; substantiation of regional CMP seismic surveys.
