Development of an analytical solution for optimum design of RWH systems—A case study in Guangzhou 开发 RWH 系统优化设计的分析解决方案--广州案例研究

The implementation of rainwater harvesting (RWH) has emerged as a key strategy to cope with the water crisis in urban areas. However, the required design parameters of the RWH system in different buildings vary widely because of the differences in architectural characteristics. In this paper, the relationships between the building characteristics parameters and the optimal tank (Tc) capacity are investigated by simulating the RWH system for more than 120 buildings at different locations in Guangzhou. Explicit expressions relating the optimal storage volume of RWH systems to building characteristics are derived based on nonlinear regression analysis. A set of bivariate exponential equations for estimating the optimal tank size under different building conditions was obtained. The model has a MER of less than 10% for buildings with a C/D ratio between 17.5 and 85. In Guangzhou, the unit cost of an RWH system can be reduced to CNY 2.62/m2 with optimally designed tanks.

This paradigm shift leverages cutting‐edge technologies like neural networks, the Internet of Things (IoT) and advanced sensor systems. These components seamlessly integrate with network infrastructure, mobile systems and sophisticated water‐saving information systems to forge comprehensive smart water‐saving management systems. These systems adeptly amass, process and dissect vast troves of water‐saving data, harmonizing with the requirements of water management authorities and consumers alike. This fusion of technology empowers us to furnish all‐encompassing information services, thereby elevating the standards of water resource management. The rainstorm influence on ecological restoration: A novel response ecological model for an urban shallow lake 暴雨对生态恢复的影响:城市浅湖的新型响应生态模型

Environmental processes in cities and suburbs are significantly impacted by climate change. The development of reliable ecological models may successfully direct agricultural activities. Numerous models have been put forth as of late; however, because to the complexity of environmental microorganisms, their use in complex systems is still restricted. For a better understanding of the ecological restoration of an urban lake system that had been disturbed by rainfall, an improved ecological dynamic model that took into account inundation plants, phytoplankton and microorganisms was proposed based on the field survey. Observed data from a shallow urban lake with a surface area of approximately 66 600 m2 in the heart of Shunde district, Foshan, in South China, was used to validate the model. In this model, five hypotheses—phytoplankton, microorganisms, NH3-N, COD and TP in water—were selected as experimental variables. To assess the model's correctness and dependability, the correlation coefficients (R) and root mean square error-observations standard deviation ratio (RSR) were computed. The results from the establish model (0.446 < R < 0.985, RSR < 0.7) are very similar to those of actual observations. In addition, four microbe species (Aquabacium, Bradyrhizobium japonicum, Curvibacter and Cyanobacteria) multiplied when pollutant concentration dropped. Our model provides a useful tool for managing urban shallow water lakes by properly simulating the dynamic changes of aquatic species and microbes in urban shallow water lakes.

Quantifying the impact of urbanization on wet deposition over Xiong'an New Area in northern China 量化城市化对中国北部雄安新区湿沉降的影响

Xiong'an New Area (XNA) in China is undergoing rapid urbanization due to economic development and population growth. However, the urbanization process can significantly impact the local environment. This study applied a combined method of Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) and empirical calculations to quantitatively identify changes in precipitation and wet deposition over XNA and its internal lake, Baiyangdian (BYD), during the summer months of June to September. Five different urbanization scenarios were established by varying the WRF subsurface conditions. By comparing these scenarios with historical observations, it was found that WRF simulations could effectively reproduce the precipitation and temperature changes in the region. This study examined how different levels of urbanization affect precipitation and estimated changes in PM2.5 wet deposition. The study's results indicate that as urbanization increases, it leads to an increase in precipitation and wet deposition in the XNA region. Using the relatively low urbanization level in 1980 as a benchmark for comparison, it was observed that when XNA becomes fully urbanized, the increase in precipitation and wet deposition in the region exceeds 7%. The BYD Lake can have a moderating effect on the environment, absorbing more than 50% of the local precipitation and PM2.5 wet deposition with less than 25% of its area, compared to the XNA interval of the statistics, while the increase in wet deposition in the BYD Lake area is more than 4% after full urbanization in XNA. The findings also emphasize the importance of the need to balance economic growth and environmental protection in urban planning and development.

Water resources sustainability assessment in the Vietnamese Srepok River Basin 越南 Srepok 河流域水资源可持续性评估

This study proposes a sustainability assessment framework for managing the water resources of the Vietnamese portion of the Srepok River Basin (VSRB). A sustainability hierarchy was developed using five, ten, seven and five sustainability indicators to characterize economic, environmental, social and management dimensions of the basin's water resources. Reliable weights for each of these sustainability components were assigned using fuzzy analytical hierarchy process evaluations of judgements obtained from five highly experienced experts. The sustainability levels were ranked in increasing order of Management > Economic > Environment > Social, allowing a composite sustainability index to be assessed. By taking into account economic, environmental, social and management perspectives, the assessment provides a comprehensive understanding of the sustainability of water resources in the VSRB.

Performance assessment and indicators for agricultural water management—A review 农业用水管理的绩效评估和指标--回顾

The complexity of irrigation systems and the need to adapt them to uncertainties requires developing approaches to synthesize their performances. This paper reviews performance assessment and indicators for agricultural water systems. It is aimed at finding various methods and indices used for irrigation performance assessment and standard classes for their characterization. The global application of the metrics was also documented. Adopting a systematic review approach, peer-reviewed journal articles published in the English language in the last two decades (1 March 2001 to 31 December 2020) were surveyed. Case studies were presented demonstrating the application of the indicators. The study revealed a lack of standardization and the use of a wide range of indicators among others, and recommended representing certain indicators as single. However, this review considered one indicator as the best. Suggestions for further studies were made.

Nonylphenols (NPs), one of the known endocrine disrupting organic pollutants, had received full attention for their estrogenic potency and ubiquitous distribution in the environment. Due to its chemical properties and compositions of technical nonylphenols (tNPs), which was persistent and soil environments for a long time and affect the ecosystem vigorously, degradation behaviour of a nonylphenol isomer (NP38) and the para-substituded nonylphenols (4-NPs) in water and soil was compared in this study. The results showed that the 4-NPs and NP38 could be degraded under the mercury lamp in ultrapure water, 90% of 4-NPs and NP38 were photodegradated in 2 h, but the removal rate of the 4-NPs was slightly faster than the NP38. The NP38 was almost completely decay under the UV in 120 min. The active species (NO3 and Fe3+) were benefit for the photogradation of NP38 and presented higher efficiency under the higher concentration. The biodegradable curves of the 4-NPs and NP38 in the SS (The soil from sewage irrigation area) were similar, 84% of the NP38 was removed after 20 days later in SS, the 62.25% of the NP38 was remained after 60 days later in CS (the soil was from the groundwater irrigation area), but the removal rate of the NP38 was nearly two times to the 4-NPs in the CS, and the structure of the nonylphenol isomers with α-quaternary had influenced on its degradation in soils. The study was helpful for better understanding the migration and transformation behaviour of NPs and provided scientific basis for accurate assessment of environmental risk of NPs from the sewage irrigation area.

Analysis of energy return on investment of dry anaerobic digestion for low water alperujo with oxidative, thermal and alkaline pretreatments 采用氧化、热处理和碱性预处理的干式厌氧消化低水阿尔佩鲁霍的能源投资回报分析

Anaerobic digestion processes for biogas generation using alperujo have been the subject of intensive studies suggesting that phenolic compounds act as microbial inhibitors in anaerobic digestion. Pretreatments are needed to reduce the effects of phenolic compounds and improve biogas production, especially for dry anaerobic digestion. However, industrial-scale implementation of these pretreatments is challenging, and it is unclear whether the improvement in biogas production justifies the energy expended on pretreatment. This study examines the energy analysis of dry anaerobic digestion and three alternative pretreatments: alkaline, oxidative and thermal. Results indicate that thermal pretreatment at 80°C with added water reduces phenolic compounds in alperujo by 35.4%. Meanwhile, pretreated with hydrogen peroxide in alkaline medium had the highest methane productivity (205 mL CH4/gVS). Even so, thermal pretreatment was only one with an energy return on investment greater than 1, signifying the necessity for energy analysis to ensure the viability of pretreatment processes.

Acidification and alkali precipitation for phosphorus recovery from municipal digested sludge 酸化和碱沉淀法回收城市消化污泥中的磷

Municipal digested sludge (MDS) has considerable phosphorus content that is between 1% and 15% in dry matter and it is a potential source for phosphorus recovery. A high amount of MDS is generated from sewage treatment plants in large cities and has many environmental concerns with its organic and inorganic constituents. In this study, phosphorus was recovered by precipitation with Ca(OH)2 and NaOH. Acid pretreatment was applied to MDS with H2SO4 and 58.7% of phosphorus was extracted from the solid phase to the liquid phase at pH 2. Up to 99% of dissolved phosphorus in the liquid phase was recovered with Ca(OH)2 and NaOH. Almost similar phosphorus precipitation rates were achieved with both bases but higher phosphorus contents (17% as P2O5) in precipitates were obtained by NaOH. The product obtained in this study can serve as a high-quality raw material substitute for the low-grade phosphate rocks (<15% P2O5) commonly utilized in the phosphate industry. Furthermore, this research presents a practical, environmentally friendly and cost-effective approach for sustainable sludge management and phosphorus production.

Establishment and application of rural domestic sewage treatment evaluation system based on analytic hierarchy process 基于层次分析法的农村生活污水处理评价体系的建立与应用

Although numerous rural domestic sewage treatment facilities are constructed with the aim of improving the rural environment, the actual treatment effect is still difficult to evaluate. In this study, an evaluation system of rural domestic sewage treatment was established based on the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) model and a county in Zhejiang Province was selected as an example for empirical analysis. According to the results, planning issues have the greatest impact on rural sewage treatment, accounting for 56.8%, while equipment issues, personnel issues and management issues account for 27.3%, 9.7% and 6.2%, respectively. Also, the results demonstrated that terminal planning, location selection, treatment process selection and construction design should be paid attention to among the 11 secondary indicators. The establishment of the evaluation system clarifies the different influencing factors and weights during the operation of the completed facilities, which is conducive to the scientific and effective management of sewage treatment.
