The possibility to measure the instant current consumption of electrical devices or in branches of the electrical network, without specialized sensors, was evaluated. As it will be shown below, in some types of electrical networks the neutral conductor could be used as a current sensing device. Reading of the voltage difference between the neutral conductor and the protective conductor can supply helpful information about the load.

Design and verification of two cost functions for energy optimal position control of the PMSM drives loaded with combined constant and linear friction and load torques is the main contribution of this paper. The first cost function respects copper losses minimization only while the second one minimizes copper and friction losses together. Both algorithms expressed analytically respect prescribed maneuver time and prescribed acceleration while drive's speed is derived to achieve the demanded position in given time. Overall control system complains with principles of vector control and forced dynamics control. For precise tracking of the prescribed state variables a zero dynamic lag pre-compensator is included. Energy demands of both control algorithms are calculated and compared by simulation. Results gained confirmed higher energy savings of the cost function minimizing copper and friction losses together.

This article deals with modeling of a small induction machine (output power is 600 W) by the finite elements method. The aims are to create model that take into account effects of manufacturing processes and to analyze their impact on efficiency. The considered manufacturing processes are punching and core building (riveting). Impact of real (non-circular) outer shape of stator sheets is considered too. Several different models were used for this research and results of simulations were compared with results of laboratory measurement.

A typical feature of city tram transportation is increasing its effectivity. The main effort of public transportation companies is seeking savings for decreasing the energy intensity of mass transit. During operative measurement of power consumption in the tram cars it was found that on the whole the tram energy consumption have well-known influences such as tram occupancy, use of heating etc., and less known factors such as e.g. driving style of driver. We would like to estimate how much more energy is consumed by aggressive driving style of driver. Because it is impossible to ensure the same conditions at passing the same track, we concentrated on devising a tram car model that quantifies the difference of consumed energy in case normal driving style of the driver and in case of dynamic driving style of the driver. Because we use mathematical model, we can set the other conditions such as vehicle occupancy, the number of accelerations, stoppings etc. on the same values.

This paper presents the method and results of calculating the output voltage of the boost-converter with Cockroft-Walton voltage multiplier according to the values of the capacitors and the load. The combination of boost-converter with voltage multiplier provides a very high voltage gain, which can be adjusted by changing the duty cycle of the boost converter. It is shown that the output voltage of the converter is a complex function of the switching frequency, duty cycle, number and value of the capacitors and load resistance. The proposed method for calculating the external characteristic is based on the analysis of the energy losses in the capacitors of the multiplier. The formulas and graphs for estimating the output voltage as a function of the converter and load parameters are obtained. Experimental results confirmed the theoretical expectations.

This paper presents modulator with active voltage balancing control for three-phase four-level FLC converter based electric motor drive for applications supplied directly from a 6 kV ac-grid. It describes modulation algorithm of the drive with phase shifted PWM modulation with balancing voltage of flying capacitor by using P controllers in the closed loop. The proposed control is verified by experiments carried out on down-scale drive prototype of rated power of 35 kVA.

This paper is dedicated to a special high frequency DC/DC converter with a secondary side active rectifier, which in cooperation with a novel type of active lossless snubber ensures required conditions for soft switching of all transistor switches of the converter in a wide load range. Theoretical analysis of DC/DC converter with active rectifier is done, and operation principle of the proposed soft switching DC/DC converter with active rectifier and active snubber is described. Experimental results obtained on laboratory model of proposed soft switching DC/DC converter are presented.

This paper deals with comparison of a novel supply system consisting of a single leg matrix converter with a single leg voltage source inverter fed the single phase induction machine. Single leg matrix converter operates without DC-interlink, thus there is no need to use bulky capacitors. Comparison of the two converters is made by simulation under motoric load.
