Ultrahigh birefringent index guiding photonic crystal fibers 超高双折射率导向光子晶体光纤

A novel index guiding photonic crystal fiber made of pure silica is proposed which yields very high birefringence (∼3.474×10−2) over the 1.55 µm wavelength band and higher at longer wavelengths. Employing finite element method, optical properties such as chromatic dispersion, polarization mode dispersion, confinement loss, nonlinearity etc. are calculated and the effects of variation of fiber parameters on them are analyzed. A strategy for trade-off between confinement loss and chromatic dispersion without affecting the birefringence is demonstrated. The proposed fiber is likely to find important applications in coherent optical communication systems and sensing applications.

Spectral analysis of SPWM controlled cascaded three-level inverter drive SPWM控制级联三电平逆变器驱动的频谱分析

Cascaded retrofit of two two-level inverters can generate three-level voltage space vector. This paper proposes the use of double Fourier integral analysis based on unit cell approach that exists for two-level inverter in order to carry out the spectral analysis of the cascaded three-level inverter. The unit cells with their contours and the corresponding boundaries are carefully identified for the cascaded three-level inverter and analytical expressions are presented for the harmonic components present in the inverter output voltage. The effectiveness of the proposed spectral analysis is demonstrated first using MATLAB simulations and validated experimentally using a laboratory prototype.

Grid code compliance for grid-connecting a PV system to an existing facility in Singapore 新加坡光伏系统与现有设施并网的电网规范合规性

Grid-connected Photovoltaic (PV) system is a most promising renewable energy source in Singapore. This paper presents how Singapore ensures a safe and secure power system network on connecting a PV system in parallel to the main power grid. This research project was carried out under the supervision of a registered Professional Engineer (PE) from Singapore together with an academic Professor. A scenario was setup in this research based on a client with an existing facility who wished to install a PV system at their premises of 600m2, in parallel to the power grid. In order to achieve that, research on Singapore grid code is mandatory so as to comply with it. A feasibility research has been done for satisfying the expectations of the client based on the rules and regulations of Singapore power industry. ETAP has been used for the analysis of technical parameters. Based on the comprehensive studies and analysis, it has been reflected to proceed with the installation of the PV system to low tension of the grid in parallel with the Singapore power grid.

Experimental implementation of direct torque control of open end winding induction motor 开放式绕组异步电动机直接转矩控制的实验实现

In this paper, a modified switching algorithm for open end winding induction motor drive with less number of switching states is implemented. Open end winding induction motor requires two voltage sources operating in dual mode. With the help of two inverters, it generates 18 active voltage space vectors and three-level output voltage. The proposed algorithm is implemented to operate the induction motor drive only with two-level output voltage. Hence, the proposed algorithm is implemented only with 6 active voltage vectors and 2 null vectors. By using the proposed algorithm the induction motor drive is operated with two-level voltage and requires 8 switching states, so it provides higher switching states redundancy. The effectiveness of proposed algorithm verified experimentally with dspace DS-1104 and it is interfaced through MATLAB/simulink RTI-model.

The simplest rectifier topology tolerant of load resistance variation and circuit analysis by square-wave approximation 最简单的整流器拓扑结构对负载电阻变化的容忍度及方波近似电路分析

We propose a novel, extremely simple rectifier whose input impedance is insensitive to the variation of the load resistance. Thanks to this insensitivity, the reflection loss caused by the load variation is minimized, and thus the rectifier keeps high efficiency in a wide load range. This characteristic is welcomed by wireless power transfer, especially for variable or unstable load resistance. The wide-load-range characteristic is demonstrated by time domain analysis with a new approximation technique. By employing a square-wave-stimulus approximation, we find that the rectifier has two conduction modes and autonomously selects a preferable mode depending on the load resistance. Under a light load condition, the rectifier works like a single series rectifier and the input impedance is proportional to the load resistance. Under a heavy load condition, the rectifier works in a peculiar manner unlike any other rectifiers, and the input impedance is inversely proportional to the load resistance. The condition of the light and heavy load is also clearly formulated by the analysis. The comparison with the simulation result shows that the approximated analysis reflects the rectifier's behavior well, and so the result is useful for the analysis and the design of the proposed rectifier.

A multi clue heuristic based algorithm for table detection 基于多线索启发式的表检测算法

Research in the field of document analysis and document recognition experienced reverent growth in the past decade as automation of the office document became essential for daily life. Text in documents can take different forms like hand written text, printed text, headings signatures, tables and graphics. Extraction of tables plays a crucial role in layout analysis, and retaining the important information present in tables. In this work, a multi clue heuristic based table detection algorithm using hough lines and corner harris corner is proposed. Hough lines and harris corner points are extracted from the document in two parallel process. The clues extracted from both the process are matched using nearest neighbor framework to yield tables from the documents. The proposed algorithm is a simple paradigm for extraction of tables that are formed by lines. The performance of the proposed algorithm is tested on different types of documents that contain tables to observe an accuracy of 89.7 %.

Robots for the bottom of the pyramid: Mobile robot racing over the internet 金字塔底层的机器人:移动机器人在互联网上比赛

Innovative and quality education for all is a major precondition for smart nations. Children and youth are fascinated by mechanisms, machines and robots. Therefore, robotics using inexpensive open source hardware and software is increasingly being used in innovative STEM education. But, developing countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America are well behind the curve in the use of robots in schools and colleges. An innovative and extremely affordable robotic system is developed in this paper, whereby school children anywhere can go online and race multiple indoor mobile robots over the Internet. Virtual reality and force feedback are used to make the racing realistic and interactive. Children will be introduced to building their own inexpensive mobile robots using commercial, off-the-shelf components and materials. Advanced learners, e.g., college and university students, can modify and improve the hardware and software for Internet-based teleoperation. The project can be used to introduce or improve robotics education at a low cost among school children, while providing opportunities in service learning for college/university students.

Performance analysis of various segmentation techniques for detection of brain abnormality 脑异常检测中各种分割技术的性能分析

In the field of neuropsychiatric disorders, it is known that brain segmentation is important for both detection and diagnosis. Processing of MRI/PET images for brain pathology detection is a challenging task for radiologists. To address this issue the performance of various segmentation techniques has been analyzed with Independent component analysis (ICA) as a pre-processing step for removal of salt and pepper and speckle noise at 5dB noise level. There are so many segmentation methodology used for medical diagnosis, which comes under the classification strategy like supervised and unsupervised segmentation, region and edge based segmentation. The methodologies considered in this paper will cover the main classification strategy of segmentation for brain abnormality. Mean Shift (MS), Fuzzy C Means (FCM), Hough Transform (HT), Normalized Graph Cut (NGC), Thresholding by Histogram (ThH) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) are taken here for performance analysis. Experimental results suggest that, for PET images, pathology detection is found good while using ICA as denoising method for removing salt and pepper and speckle noise at 5dB and SVM as segmentation technique. Whereas for MRI images the performance of both ThH and SVM goes hand in hand as a segmentation methodology with ICA as noise removal method. The evaluation measure used here are Jaccard and Dice Coefficient, Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR), Global Consistency Error (GCE), Under Segmentation (UnS), Over segmentation (OvS) and Incorrect Segmentation (InC), Selectivity, Specificity, Accuracy, Positive predictive value (PPV) and Negative predictive value (NPV) . From the obtained results it is seen that SVM gives better result for detection of mild cognitive impairment in PET scan images and both SVM and ThH is performing good for brain tumor detection in MRI images, without affecting the image quality.

AES in partially reconfigurable CGRAs AES在部分可重构的CGRAs

Encryption standards demand significant compute capabilities and hence they have often been implemented in FPGAs to satisfy performance requirements. In recent times, coarse grain reconfigurable architectures (CGRA) have become popular for building high throughput applications. In many cases, the regular nature of CGRAs allow the architecture to be clocked at frequencies in excess of 400MHz enabling high throughputs. In this work, we use a model coarse grain reconfigurable fabric to explore the potential of implementing the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES). This coarse grain reconfigurable array with malleable communication links is used to build a multiprocessor archirecture for the highly compute intensive kernel and also exploits dynamic reconfiguration. The semi-systolic near neighbour communication interconnect can be dynamically reconfigured for each “epoch” of computation. Different rounds of the application are computed in different tiles for different blocks of plain text . The paper proposes a radically different implementation of AES where randomization of the computation in each round is achieved which enables us to mitigate the side channel attack vulnerabilities associated with any memory based implementation.

Olfactory classification using electronic nose system via artificial neural network 利用人工神经网络对电子鼻系统进行嗅觉分类

Olfaction, according to modern research, has not yet been classified based on its known properties. Unlike the sense of taste and sight, the sense of smell does not have any known dimensions of category. Modern technologies of Electronic nose (E-nose) systems were used in analyzing smells. This study aimed to categorize different clusters of smell and differentiate their levels of reaction to an E-nose system comprising of different sensors. MQ - Metal-Oxide semiconductor gas sensors were used coupled with artificial neural network (ANN) using MATLAB to evaluate the systems capability of discrimination. Interfacing was done using Arduino Microcontroller for communication. MQ5 Gas sensor gave the most variance. This result confirmed that the system's ability to be used in future applications was suggested.
