This paper investigates multiple input multiple output (MIMO) communication systems using wireless baseband transmission (WBT) scheme which directly transmits a baseband signal stream from an antenna without modulation techniques over an extremely wideband channel. Following to the previous paper discussing the fundamental idea and the feasibility of WBT experimentally, this paper deals with WBT MIMO systems. Some natures of WBT MIMO systems and the data transmission scheme are discussed theoretically, and two types of signal processing structure, i.e., a spatio-temporal beamformer with and without the cascade connection of a one-dimensional (1-D) FIR filter are proposed for the equalization of WBT MIMO channel. Transmission characteristics in the frequency-domain are obtained through a measurement in a radio anechoic chamber, and computer simulations are carried out using them. The results show the good performance towards equalization of a WBT MIMO channel.

Wireless sensor nodes are expected to make economical, energy efficient decisions in routing of data with the limited amount of battery-voltage that they have. To make overall energy-efficient decisions, an approximation of the system energy levels can be made available to the sensor nodes. The aim of this work is to propose an algorithm to get the cluster-wise global energy status of sensors' residual energies. The study and implementation is done in a cluster-based network and the computed energy status is provided to the sensors within a cluster. An energy message is proposed to assess the sub-system energy status for each cluster. Two aggregates are explored for the energy status assessment within the energy message. The first aggregate has measurement of number of sensors with defined intervals of voltage ranges. The second aggregate considers that the cluster is divided into sectors and calculates the average of residual energies of each sector. Pre-defined bits in the energy message are used to indicate the comparison results. It is seen that as the number of sensors increased, more energy-rich sensors were chosen (45.87% higher for a 9times9 sensors sized network) in the routing process, with the proposed energy message considerations than without.

Recently, there has been a growing interest in the application of the computer algebra systems to control design and analysis. Symbolic computation has been used for modeling, simulation, and synthesis of systems. This paper presents some of the key benefits and applications of symbolic computation techniques from the viewpoint of the symbolic system simulation.

This paper is a result from a series of papers about the adaptive filters in the bandwidth estimation algorithm. Here we present briefly the common structure of the adaptive filters and the latest adaptive filters used for estimation of the best-effort available bandwidth. A proposition for an improved bandwidth sampling algorithm, which is to be used with the adaptive filters and a series of simulations with different packet-switched network conditions are following.

This paper investigates efficient low-density parity-check (LDPC) coded orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) modulation schemes for fixed wireless application. We use partially LDPC coded with double gray code labeling technique and Reed-Solomon code with LDPC Coded Modulation (RS-LCM) to achieve better performance than the conventional LDPC bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM) scheme. RS-LCM scheme outperforms BICM scheme by 0.4 dB at a BER of 10-5.

A new method for the parameter identification of a behavioral model of a nonlinear BAW resonator is proposed. This model contains two parametric elements whose resistance and capacitance depend on the r.m.s. value of the input current. The identification procedure is simpler than that corresponding to the known physical models. The model of a quartz resonator is built and implemented in the APLAC simulator.

Digital generation of radio-frequency signals is a key concept of software defined radios. This paper presents a digital transmitter chain including a very high-speed delta-sigma modulator. It comprises also baseband processing, sample rate conversion, digital upconverter and output stages (switching- mode amplifier and BAW filters). About 74 dB of ACLR (adjacent channel leakage ratio) is obtained on the 7.8 GS/s output of the delta-sigma modulator for the WCDMA standard.

MIMO-OFDM based wireless LAN standards are currently being defined. These systems employ packed-based communication, which requires fast and accurate automatic gain control. The precise estimation of the expected receive signal power of data symbols, based on preamble symbols is required in order to optimally detect the data signals. In this paper, two different preamble OFDM-symbols are considered and analyzed with regards to their suitability for received signal power estimation in MIMO-OFDM systems. An AGC architecture for an IEEE 802.11a based MIMO system is proposed and FPGA implementation results are reported.

3G wireless communication is the next version of mobile networks. Load balancing in networks causes efficient using of network resources. In this paper, we propose an efficient algorithm for load balancing of radio network controllers (RNCs) in radio access networks (RANs). As the characteristics of connections between RNCs and BTSs in a RAN are similar to those of graphs, we make use of graphs to solve our problem. The algorithm is based on the finding a path by which the RNCs could exchange their overloads. By using these paths the algorithm load balances the RNCs in an efficient and fast way. By testing our algorithm on networks with different topology and comparing the results, the efficiency and ability of our algorithm will be verified.

This paper reviews our recent research on the optimal power control at the physical layer, and scheduling at the medium access control (MAC) layer under energy-constraints. In our approach, first, by use of Nash game theory, the physical and link layer designs are jointly minimized to provide an optimal power control solution for multi-carrier (MC) direct sequence (DS) CDMA to maximize the utility function defined as the number of data bits transmitted correctly per unit of energy. That is, the network throughput is maximized at the cost of the minimal energy consumed. Second, the pair-wise optimization of the hardware and MAC layer designs is considered to present an optimal scheduling protocol to minimize the energy utilization for data fusion in wireless sensor network, which includes both the transmission energy and the circuit energy consumption. The integration via cross-layer protocol optimizes the communication system's use of energy while making the system more readily adaptive to changes in the environment and user tendencies. This is very crucial for the emerging IT technologies, since it is well known that the energy resource is getting more and more expensive nowadays.
