Background: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) has a negative impact on prenatal and neonatal outcomes and is a public health concern. The study aims to determine the prevalence of gestational diabetes in Malaysian antenatal mothers and identify risk factors associated with its incidence at one tertiary teaching hospital in Kelantan, Malaysia. Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional study collected data from antenatal mothers between 24 and 28 weeks of gestation diagnosed with GDM based on the International Association of Diabetes and Pregnancy Study Groups criteria between January and February 2021. Eighty-nine antenatal mothers were screened. Results: The mean age of the participants was 32 years (SD = 5.8). GDM prevalence was 33.7%, and having a history of GDM was significantly associated with prevalence (p = 0.016). Chi-square analysis revealed that Kelantanese prenatal mothers with risk factors, particularly those who had previously had GDM, had a significant prevalence of GDM. Conclusion: Hence, population health programs and strategies are required are urgently required to reduce risk and improve the health of future antenatal mothers.

Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) is one of the top 10 causes of mortality worldwide, and poor eating habits may lead to an uncontrolled level of HbA1c. A cross-sectional descriptive correlational design was utilized. A convenient sample of 143 adult patients was utilized. The tools used were (a) structured interview questionnaire, (b) Health assessment and lifestyle questionnaire, and (c) Nutritional habits questionnaire. The mean age of the study sample was (47.39±11.53 years) with the mean level of HbA1c (8.05 ±1.45). HbA1c level was positively correlated with the nutritional habits score (r=0.343**; P= 0.000). A significant relationship was found between levels of HbA1c and eating fruits and vegetables. Monthly income is significantly associated with nutritional habits. To promote and improve nutritional habits, regular meetings in clinical settings should be held by an interdisciplinary care team including nurses and dieticians to provide assessment, follow-up, and nutritional advice for T2D patients. Replication of the study in different geographical areas is recommended.

Introduction: Indonesia is susceptible to disaster. The disaster triggers all aspects of humanity, such as psychology and physical well-being. Resilience is critical to help the community facing the impact of the disaster, especially mothers as the core of the family. So, we need to improve mothers’ resilience when facing the impact of flood disasters. Methods: This research method used explanatory research with a cross-sectional approach. The population of this research were 121 mothers who lived in a village based on a calculation by the Rule of Thumb. Data analysis used SEM-PLS. Results: Most of the respondents had good knowledge, which was 106 mothers (87.6%). Most of the respondents had very high filial values in the care indicator (71%) and in the respect (50.4%). About 49 mothers (40.5%) had low resilience and 90 mothers (74.4%) had moderate family appraisal scores. Among some of the respondents, 81 (66.4%) had moderate family resilience scores, 56 mothers (46.32%) had an adequate coping strategy. There were 36.4% who stated that reinforcement, facilities, and support from health workers were good. It is known that most family types (64) were nuclear families (52.9%), most mothers had 1-2 children (77.7%), and lived in a house with one household (55.4%). Conclusion: Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that family appraisals and filial value can affect the level of resilience of mothers in overcoming the impact of flood disasters.

Introduction: The age of smokers in Indonesia is now getting younger; it has even touched the age of children. The prevalence of smoking among school-aged adolescents, or those aged 10–18 years, has increased by 9.1%. An initial survey in several junior high schools in Kabanjahe District showed that many students smoked in several shops around the school after returning from school. This study aims to determine the determinants of smoking behavior in junior high school students in Kabanjahe District. Methods: The type of research used is qualitative research with a phenomenological design. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews. The determination of informants used the purposive sampling method and obtained as many as four informants. Results: According to the findings of this study, the determinants of smoking behaviour in adolescents are their peers who invite them to smoke, factors associated with parents who do not supervise and even smoke in front of their children, and advertising factors in the mass media that involve attractive and good-looking models. The living environment contributes to adolescent smoking behavior, as does the Karo cultural factor, where cigarettes are one of the important ingredients in every traditional event in the Karo Community. Conclusion: The school should be able to provide efforts to prevent smoking behavior with training involving peer counselling by utilizing outstanding teenagers as peer educators in an effort to keep children away from the influence of smoking.
