This article offers a description of the varied functions which well-directed post-legal adoption services can provide for all members of the adoption triad. Adoptive parents, adopted children or adults, and birthparents experience life-long issues and concerns peripheral to the adoption arrangement. These can be positively addressed and alleviated through knowledgeable and timely intervention, through support and problem-solving expertise. Adoptive families are currently built in many ways. It has become widely accepted that informed post-legal adoption services are a must for all child welfare agencies involved with adoption.

Social work, as a profession, survives by reflecting community values. Because community values seldom recognize the basic needs reflected in short-term relationships, social workers may desire to correct this value imbalance. From a study of the ideas and experiences of 100 sexual radicals, an ideal-typical version of the popular notion of love is presented. Additionally, four basic modes of entertaining or responding to that dominant notion are set out. In this way the respondents are seen as struggling to combine a highly critical sexual ideology with a much more conservative socialization for intimacy.
