It is estimated that 0.2–0.5% of Indians suffer from oral submucous fibrosis. The states of Gujarat, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra are the most severely impacted by this illness. Antioxidants, effective physiotherapy exercises, and topical corticosteroid injections are among the treatment options available for oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF). Despite being widely used, there are few studies assessing the effectiveness and patient compliance of the conventionally used technique for physiotherapy in patients with OSMF, such as ice cream sticks, tapered screws, and Heister jaw opener.A device for physical rehabilitation that may be used at home was made using 3D printing technology. Ten patients participated in a pilot study that was carried out. These patients participated in the device’s pilot testing to assess the mechanical features and its ability to improve interincisal mouth opening, comfort (pain and control), and enjoyment. Comfort [Pain, comfort, control] with device use, ease of use [Portability] and satisfaction with device use.A statistically significant (P < 0.0006) improvement in the mean mouth opening of OSMF patients was shown by quantitative data. After 1 month of use, there was a 1.8 mm difference in mouth opening. This implies that the device worked well for these people. Based on feedback, the majority of patients reported that the device was comfortable, easy to use, and showed satisfaction with the device use.It was found that people with OSMF can open their mouth more with the use of a new physiotherapy device. In addition to pharmacological therapy, this pilot study needs more investigation with a bigger sample size and a randomized control trial. Considering that this method of managing OSMF seems to be effective.

The present case describes a case of skeletal deep bite class II malocclusion treated efficiently using the Forsus appliance, and its importance of clinical and biomechanical considerations. Skeletal deep bite class II malocclusions with deficient mandible are treated with different functional appliances. There are several appliances for its correction in a growing child. However, fixed functional appliances are commonly used in the present clinical scenario for those non-compliant cases, who present late with less residual growth or no growth. This case was treated with a pre-adjusted edgewise appliance supplemented with a device known as Forsus Fatigue Resistant Device (FFRD) (3M Unitek Corp, California, USA). FFRD is a good alternative device for skeletal deep bite class II malocclusions instead of class II elastics in mild cases and place of Herbst appliance in severe cases. Biomechanical principles should be considered for those patients with the Forsus appliance to prevent complications. There are fewer complaints from the patients and treatment time is less.

One of the crucial stages in the journey of Philippine dentistry students is the dynamic transition from the two years of preparatory phase to the next four years of dentistry proper. Students initially have a firm commitment to finish their program. Unfortunately, multitudinous factors can drive them to drop out. Aside from knowing if self-efficacy and self-regulation beliefs play a significant role in students’ persistence, it behooves them to identify other factors of persistence.A qualitative method using focus group discussion (FGD) was employed to gain a more in-depth understanding of the other factors of persistence that might be present in the students. Ten respondents representing the different subtypes of regular and irregular students were invited to be part of the FGD. Those enrolled in the clinics were excluded from the study. Questions were carefully constructed with exploratory open-ended questions to probe respondents.Four themes were extracted from the content of the FGD on factors of persistence. They included (1) obedience to parents, (2) personal dreams, (3) social support, and (4) positive mindset.Dentistry is a challenging program. Self-regulation and self-efficacy play a significant role in students’ persistence and knowing the factors why they persist is important for educators and guidance counselors. Interventions can be designed to improve students’ self-regulation and increase students’ perceptions of their academic capabilities by guiding them through strategies that can improve their performances.

An important aspect of cosmetic dentistry is developing a geometric or numerical proportion to associate the consecutive width of maxillary anterior teeth. New hypotheses in this area include the Golden proportion, golden percentage, and the recurrent esthetic dental (RED) proportion. This study used digital photos and computer analysis to examine the existing RED proportion associated with the widths of maxillary anterior teeth in people with permanent dentition.Sixty young adults (28 males and 32 females) were photographed from the front. Digital measurements were taken of all maxillary anterior teeth. To determine whether the RED proportion exists in the permanent dentition, the mean width proportion of the maxillary lateral incisor to central incisor and maxillary canine to lateral incisor was established. The average lateral incisor to central incisor width proportion of the right and left side was determined to be 70% and 71%, respectively. The average canine to lateral incisor width proportion was determined to be 80% and 78%, respectively. The maxillary anterior teeth’s consecutive widths did not exhibit RED proportions in the data that were examined. People’s anterior tooth proportions differ based on their race and ethnicity. Thus, the RED ratio is not the only standard for rebuilding aesthetically acceptable smiles globally.

Theragnosis is a novel concept in which diagnosis and treatment, along with the monitoring of the therapy given are done. In dentistry, this concept is applied by utilizing the inherent property of the tooth, which exhibits fluorescence. There is a difference in diseased and sound tooth structure along with any bacterial by-product exhibiting fluorescence. Thus, the present review aims to briefly describe the theragnostic approaches in dentistry. With advancements in the diagnostics aids for better therapy and monitoring simultaneously, a revolution can be made in the field of dentistry. Theragnosis, being a novel concept, gives a way for diagnosis, therapy, and monitoring simultaneously allowing for any alteration in the treatment regimen based on patient response. This review would help the clinicians to adopt one of the newer technologies available in the field of dentistry for diagnosis, treatment planning and also monitor the response.

A painful dental condition known as a dry socket (also known as alveolar osteitis) can occasionally develop after the extraction of a tooth. A dry socket occurs when the blood clot at the site of the tooth extraction dislodges before it has healed. The idea of treating dry sockets with medication-related combined treatment is relatively new. Many drugs have the ability to treat dry sockets. The study aimed to assess the knowledge regarding the combined treatment of dry socket among interns. This cross sectional study was carried out at a dental college to evaluate the knowledge and awareness of dental students regarding treatment of dry socket. The statistical analysis showed significance in knowledge about the combined treatment of dry socket. The participants had basic knowledge regarding various aspects of dry socket except recent advances.. Female interns showed more knowledge than male counterparts however, due to the unequal number of male and female participants the difference is not statistically significant. Basic knowledge regarding dry socket management was satisfactory however, awareness regarding newer advances needs to be improved. It is strongly recommended that the students should update their knowledge using continuing education programmes, journal articles so that they can manage this clinical condition effectively.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the differences in knowledge and attitude of dental students regarding learning management system (LMS) after receiving a specific training regarding the same.A questionnaire-based cross-sectional study was done among the 2nd and 3rd-year students of Ranjeet Deshmukh Dental College and Research Centre, Nagpur. Data were collected by a questionnaire containing ten questions. The training module was designed including a didactic session and trouble shooting session for the students. When analyzed, a maximum number of students showed increased knowledge and positive attitude toward LMS after the module. Few students were not using LMS but a maximum number of questions were with a higher percentage of positive responses. There is much awareness and knowledge about LMS after the module. It is critical to train the students regarding various aspects of LMS and its technical details to make navigation easier. The use of information communication technologies in learning involves efforts from not only teachers but also students to make it an effective way of learning. Regular follow-ups and troubleshooting will help maximize students’ active participation in online learning using LMS. Students’ feedback and necessary upgradation of the system are strongly recommended to achieve optimum learning output using LMS.

The objective of the study was how COVID-19 impacted the dietary habits of children between the age 2 and 5 years. The aim of the study was to assess the dietary pattern of children of 2–5 years of age during the lockdown period. The objective is to evaluate the frequency of snacking, likes/ dislikes to various food items and the change in eating patterns during the lockdown period due to COVID-19.A cross-sectional and questionnaire-based survey was conducted among 100 school-going children in a corporation city of Maharashtra.A total of 100 children between the ages of 2 and 5 participated in this survey. In addition, during the COVID lockdown period, the majority of children consume more meals and unhealthy fried snacks. In addition, children’s screen time has increased, which has increased their food holding time leading to carious teeth.During COVID lockdown period, children prefer unhealthy/fried food over fruits, vegetables, and other healthy options. They became more engrossed in the digital world while eating, affecting their mealtime due to the screen time. Parents are interested in providing their kids with dietary training to enhance their oral health.
