Using KEEL software as a educational tool: A case of study teaching data mining 利用KEEL软件作为教学工具:以研究教学数据挖掘为例

Regarding information technologies, transnational education has to face several challenges in order to offer a suitable education for computer science students worldwide. Software tools, and specially open source ones, give to the students the possibility of experiment with the most known techniques in the area. Among them, the KEEL software tool can be highlighted as a versatile framework for understanding the mechanics of several computational intelligence fields. The aim of this contribution is to present the educational aspects of KEEL software: An educational module well suited to be used in Data Mining, Machine Learning and Knowledge Discovery in Databases courses. This module provides the user with a visual feedback of the progress of the algorithms, thus being helpful in the task of evaluating and understanding the behavior of classic and modern techniques in these fields.

A semantic information retrieval model for focused crawling 聚焦爬行的语义信息检索模型

Nowadays, users of computers store a lot of information on the Web. For this reason, the Internet is a good place to search information on any subject. Due to the large amount of information, some users would search information on specific websites that they consider interesting (e.g. www.wikipedia.com, news sites, etc.). Traditional models represent webpages by using the frequency of terms or the structure of links in order to assign weight to terms of webpages. This paper presents a semantic information retrieval to represent specific websites. This proposal integrates text mining algorithms based on natural language processing and traditional representation models with the aim to improve the quality of webpages recovered by searching. Each webpage of the website is represented as a vector of topics, instead of a vector of terms. In a similar way, the query is represented as a vector of topics. Thus, a similarity measure can be applied over this vector and vectors of documents to retrieve the most relevant documents.

Creating transnational courses: Feedback and solutions 创建跨国课程:反馈和解决方案

Creating transnational degrees, like the double diplomas offered by groups of educational institutions from different European countries, represents one solution to develop education in Europe. We give good reasons to build transnational degrees and show that the underlying mobility improves the student's skills and career, based on case studies related to French-German double diplomas. We also give some feedback on our experience in building such kind of diplomas. We analyse in particular the teaching coordination problem between the partner institutions.

Dependency-based criteria for testing web services transactional workflows 用于测试web服务事务性工作流的基于依赖的标准

Transactions are a key issue to develop reliable web service based applications. The advanced models used to manage this kind of transactions rely on the dependencies between the involved activities (subtransactions). Dependencies are constraints on the processing produced by the concurrent execution of interdependent subtransactions. Existing works use formal approaches to verify the consistency and correctness of dependencies in web service transactions, but there are no works about testing their implementation. This paper identifies and defines a set of possible dependencies using logical expressions. These expressions define the preconditions to be fulfilled for executing the subtransactions primitive tasks (begin, commit and abort). By using those conditions, we propose a family of test criteria based on control-flow for checking the dependencies between subtransactions. The test criteria provide guidance for test case generation in order to specifically test the implementation of web service subtransactions dependencies.

Semantically enriched cloze exercise — Technical concept and prototype 语义丰富的完形填空练习-技术概念和原型

In our work we describe an approach for automated and approximate evaluation of character based answers in computer-based tests. Cloze exercises (‘fill-in-the-blank’) are error-prone to a variety of potential error sources and are subject to syntactic and semantic ambiguities. Our approach combines string similarity measurements with semantic word analysis to render this type of computer-based exercise more robust and user-friendly. We present a working prototype for a web-based e-learning system supporting spelling correction (syntax level) and an extension to synonyms (semantic level). A community-based approach using OpenThesuarus.org is proposed to gather and evolve missing synonyms for given answers of cloze exercises.

This paper describes the use of social, semantic networks in business applications. Our approach - the Web 3L model - reinterprets the idea of the Web 3.0 as a 3-layer structure of networks. It combines relations from social and semantic networks in order to use them for context specific search and distribution of information. As an example the distribution of urgent requests in an internal knowledge management application is described. In addition, a social semantic search with a sophisticated user interface is shown.

This paper presents the design and the implementation of a training course aiming to prepare teachers to effectively integrate Web 2.0 tools in their instruction. The program was established in the context of the Web 2.0 ERC project aiming at simplifying Web 2.0 for educational purposes. The model of Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge and the Authentic Learning approach were the guiding principles that largely influenced the educational design of this teacher preparation program. This Web 2.0 instructional design framework is outlined in detail. The program outcomes and the described experience aim to offer insight into the developing programs that respond to teachers' training needs and effective preparation.

Browser-based games played directly in the web browser are a new business environment, where traditional business models for digital games needs to be replaced with new one. There are no game packages to be sold in the first place, and availability of free options makes browser-based game with monthly costs very uninteresting for the players. Therefore neither: “make game - sell game” cycle or monthly costs based subscriber model are eligible for those. These games have a unique player group, which consist of very experienced players and huge mass of new players. In this paper, we describe business model used with long-term browser-based games. Common sources of income in this business model are selling extra features to the players and advertisement space to the advertisers.

Data integration of heterogeneous sources is still an active research problem. This topic is especially crucial on enterprises that deal with new and different kinds of data as new services are provided. However, even though research efforts have been applied to the information integration, there is a lack of practical approaches ready to be implemented for real use cases. In this paper, we present a web-based framework and system built upon ontologies and other semantic techniques for the integration of heterogeneous data sources. The example scenario used to demonstrate the utility of the framework consists of a use case with the actual data of a telecom company.
