This article aims to investigate the translation techniques used by two Chinese fansubbing groups (ShenYing and YYeTs) in the rendering of cultural references from the TV series The Ministry of Time (El Ministerio del Tiempo). The results show that both groups have the same preference in translation techniques except for notes on the screen (amplification). Based on the analysis of each technique and its connection with our classification of cultural references, we find that generally transculturality and the domains to which references are ascribed have more influence than the centrality of the reference in the rendering of verbal references, whereas, in non-verbal references, no priority of any of these three factors is found.

One of the creative facets of the writer Carmen Martin Gaite is her work as a translator. She translated from Italian, Portuguese, French and English, although she started doing it from Romanian during her university education. She combined her translations with her reflections on the art of translating, which are part of her literary theory, exposed in a fragmentary manner in her essays, literary criticism, journalistic articles, lectures and notebooks. And she combined her work as a translator and her literary theory with her fictional practice, her literary critiques, her essays, her historical investigations, etc. All these creative facets influence each other, as happens with her literary theory. The author reflected on the concept of translation, as recreation or interpretation of the text, although always respecting the original work; the work of the translator and the necessary requirements to perform it; the art of translation and translation in today’s society.

EnglishFirst, this article presents an overview of the multilingual and multicultural communication framework that is configured between European missionaries and native catechumens in Brazil. In this context we place the term «Translation without textualized source», essential for the historiographical study of the missionary translation in the time of colonial expansion. Subsequently, we deal with the cultural (un-)sustainability of the translation procedures carried out by the Jesuit mission in Brazil, in which we observe a greater effectiveness and cultural implementation of translations combined with rituals than those based solely on the Eurocentric logos. In order to get closer to the protagonists involved in this process, we finally discuss some of the proposals by the Jesuits Nobrega, Azpilcueta and Anchieta to solve the problems that arose in their work as linguistic and cultural mediators between colonizing Europeans and colonized natives.

EnglishThis article presents a contrastive analysis of two novels by African postcolonial female authors and their respective translations. Both novels are written in hybrid languages, African in their background and Europeanized in their form, namely: the French of Senegalese author Ken Bugul and the English of Nigerian author Buchi Emecheta. The departing point of this study is the premise established in postcolonial studies affirming that hybrid postcolonial texts have significantly specific language features and numerous cultural references (many of them in vernacular languages such as Wolof or Igbo) that represent a stumbling block to their translation practice. In our hypothesis, a single trend or strategy cannot be applied, but rather a balance between the different translational possibilities must be sought. From a womanist perspective, we will illustrate fragments of these works in order to analyse how the hybrid language and the African identity are exposed. Likewise, we will study the translational treatment that certain illustrative fragments of these African women’s writings have experienced towards Spanish.

EnglishGoing through the relation between Translation and Memory Studies, and inspired by the notions of ideology and power as proposed by Foucault (1975), Lefevere (1992) and Carbonell (1999), this contribution aims to set out a theoretical and empirical digression regarding representability of traumatic eventsthrough language (considering it as something that is never neutral). To this end, the case of the enforced disappearances in Argentina is studied, trying to demonstrate at least two things: 1. Translation represents a fundamental space for the negotiation of meanings, memories or oblivions; 2. oblivion can be avoided only by listening to the noises produced by traumatic events. This article focuses on the heteroglossia of these terms that widened their connotations during the last military dictatorship. Finally, through the analysis of empirical data extracted with the concordance software AntConc 3.5.3, this study provides quantitative evidences of such mutations, illustrating the frequency of use of these terms in the conadep commission’s full report, Nunca Mas (1984).
EnglishGoing through the关于英文and Memory》,与inspired by the notions of品德and power as - by柯(1975)、Lefevere(1992年)和Carbonell(1999),这对区域to set out理论和经验关于representability digression创伤eventsthrough language(虽然ngok it as东西that is从不中立)。
