Learning curve has been known as a method to describe the learning capability of an organization. This paper will investigate the impact of learning to assembly line capacity. A case study has been conducted in one of major car manufacturers in Indonesia. It produces variants of products and implements a mixed model assembly line. The purposes of this research are to identify the learning curve model and investigate its impact to assembly line capacity. This paper applies log-linear model as a reference to construct the learning curve models and calculate their learning rate. It will be used to estimate the actual capacity of assembly line. The study shows that the actual capacity is lower than the designed capacity.

Along with the development of innovation and technology, standards are necessary to ensure the performance, conformity, and safety of production processes. Standards can be a source of information and may also determine how to conduct innovation. This paper is based on a case study research in an electronic company of Indonesia. This study describes four essential aspects: what the strategy of the company is in developing its product innovation; how the company's strategy is on the use of specific product standards; how the company's role is in the formulation of product standards that are used; and the relationships between standards and the success of product innovations in the context of the firm as a national company.

Nowadays, waste management face serious problems. The annual waste generation increases in proportion to the rises in population and urbanization. This research is case study in Bandung city. Bandung city produce more organic waste and fewer recyclable items. Reliable data on waste management is difficult to obtain, and even if available, they are often not updated. We report the most recent waste supply chain data in Bandung city. We map the information on waste disposal trends and problems associated with general solid waste management in Bandung City.

This paper develops the pricing model for hotel industries competing in the same market segment. We consider the condition that the hotels may face the deterministic demand or uncertain demand and price sensitive customers. The seasonal factors are also considered. We use game theory to evaluate the systems for both deterministic and stochastic demand scenarios. Based on case studies we can conclude that in general pricing model considering stochastic demands enables to represent the actual system better than the deterministic demand model.

This is a qualitative empirical study that contributes to the field human capital and brand innovation in China with regards specifically to the top level management of Chinese grown and owned enterprises. Using a tri-pronged framework of analysis based on grounded theory, critical discourse analysis and visual semiotics, this study focuses in particular on the recent growth of Geely Automobile, that is part of the Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. Ltd., tracing both its human capital development at top level management and how its management steers the organization's brand innovation in relation to its full acquisition of Volvo Cars that continues to carry a strong Swedish branding and heritage.

Needs for adequate long-term planning in the execution of energy generation to meet growing demand leads to intense regulation on energy distributors. A research was realized by a Brazilian distribution company to identify the consumption prediction methods, the nature of the decision process and their specific interaction scheme. Were initially identified the models already used by other distribution companies. After, were studied the accuracy of the models and the models were adjusted based on the industrial consumption, with the use of Box-Jenkins methodology. Finally, were established criteria which have an impact on the decision process, using Herbert Simon's theory; demonstrating the limited value of any existing tool, and the importance of using more than one, integrating quantitative to qualitative analysis.

Young Innovative Companies (YIC) gained increasing attention from governments and scholars due to their expected high innovative performance and growth. Consequently, this study investigates whether Young Innovative Companies, as defined by the EU, grow more than other firms, both in terms of employment and in terms of sales. Using a database of Flemish firms over the years 2001-2008 reveals that these firms do grow significantly more than other firms. In addition, this study shows that YICs can be differentiated from New Technology Based Firms and small young firms in terms of growth, pointing to the importance of combining the individual properties characterizing YICs, that is being young (<;6 years), small (<;250 employees) and R&D intensive (R&D intensity >;15%).

In Japan, since strong ties bind leading domestic semiconductor and user companies, a tendency exists under which the market accessibility of fabless semiconductor companies is blocked. Nevertheless, several fabless semiconductor companies have been successful to enter market. The following two market strategies have been seen these companies: specific user-based strategy and expanding user strategy. In this paper, we examine the strategy of these companies, and consider how to achieve high added value.

We examine whether firms' R&D investment leads to performance. Unlike the previous studies, we employ both individual indicator and comprehensive indicator measures of firm performance for Chinese manufacturing firms. Our results show that the empirical relation between firm's R&D and performance varies with the phase: prior R&D investments have a positive effect on current performance, and current R&D investment has a negative effect on current performance. We also find that relation between R&D and performance is shown to be much stronger when the performance is measured by comprehensive performance than when the performance is measured by ROE and EPS.

This paper presents an empirical analysis of the citations, diversification and appropriablity by using the patent pool as a value proxy. How to determine the competitive landscape in a technological roadmap is an important research issue for scientific and technological managers. Patent pools solve the tragedy of the anti-commons problem by internalizing the pool members. However, there are no empirical evidence to compare the characteristics of the pool data and non pool data. We find that the patent statistics reveal the significant difference in the research and development strategy. Although the firms still hold a lot of patents outside the pool, patents in the pool have more forward/backward citations, patent scopes and patent family than the non pool data that contribute to both managerial and theoretical knowledge.
