The present work is mainly focused on the comparison of different non-thermal plasma reactors, Glidarc type. The investigations of the effects on the reactive species produced by the technologies using cold plasma electrical discharges, as an alternative to classical electrochemical technologies, focused on the effects on the reactive species produced and on the soluble organic compounds destruction have been studied. On the basis of specific laboratory investigations regarding the electrical performances and organic compounds removal from water, the specific energy efficiency have been also considerate.

Today many medical interventions are performed minimally-invasive, with great benefits for the patient. The image is taken with an endoscope and displayed on a screen. Present Chip-on-the-Tip Endoscopes do not offer an autofocus or an optical zoom, which improves image quality as well as flexibility whereas these are standard techniques in most other applications, for example consumer cameras. Electromagnetic direct linear drives are due to their small dimensions and high dynamics well suited for these tasks. Different drives were developed at the chair of Electromechanical and Optical Systems at the Technische Universität Berlin. These actuators move continuously or have one or more stable positions that can be switched with a short current pulse. The actuator choice depends on the application. Another advantage of these drives is their scalability, which offers solutions for a great variety of tasks to adapt them in existing systems.

The cold plasma reactors are more often used in the last decades in surface treatment and bio-decontamination. The aim of this paper is to present the GlidArc plasma effects on the material surfaces used in dentistry (zirconium and titanium plates). For the conducted tests two GlidArc reactors were used: the first one having two electrodes, producing a planar electrical discharge and the second one with three electrodes and volumic discharge. Keeping the treatment time constant (60 seconds) the nature of the blowing gas used (humid and dry air) and the distance between the plasma and the treating samples was modified. The surfaces were analyzed performing atomic force microscopy (AFM) in air at room temperature. Both topographical and adhesion force measurements were considered as parameters used for characterizing the morphological modifications of the surfaces induced by the plasma treatment.

The paper describes the optimization of a blasting process through a three-layered service-oriented industrial architecture. The goals of the optimization are: a minimized manufacturing time, the automated usage of the production plans, and flexibility and reusability. To obtain a minimized processing time, a mixed-inter programming (MIP) model is developed, which is solved with a linear programming library. To ensure both short- and long-term flexibility, as well as reusability, the model has been rendered as generic as possible. Besides the detailed description of the MIP model, other important implementation details are presented: the OPC unified architecture (UA) address space structure, the complex service used for monitoring and controlling the application, and the generic control graph implemented inside the programmable logic controllers. The results show that the workload is distributed evenly between the work stations and over 99% of the total time is dedicated to the actual manufacturing process.

Based on Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), power quality indices (PQIs) definitions contained in the standards cannot be successfully applied for non-stationary signals analysis in unbalanced three-phase systems with non-sinusoidal conditions. Unlike FFT, Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) gives more accurate definitions preserving time-frequency information and reduces the computational effort. This paper proposes a comparative analysis of definitions employing these two instruments for unbalanced three-phase systems case in sinusoidal and nonsinusoidal situations using waveforms captured with data acquisition system which contains Hall voltage and current transducers. The experimental testing of harmonic distortion was made for a RL unbalanced three-phase load, a three-phase rectifier with diodes (TPRD) and a rectifier with near sinusoidal currents (RNSIC).

The purpose of this work was to investigate a three-phase-grid connected power supply using small DC link capacitor for electrolyser application. The hydrogen generation system requires low voltage and high current power supply. Thus the structure of the 3-phase power supply is defined as follows: a three phase rectification, a small DC-link capacitor and a phase-shifted full-bridge converter with current doubler rectification. Design constraints and control problems are investigated. The advantages and problems caused by the use of small DC link capacitor are presented. The control of the system is analysed from the grid current harmonic point of view and compensation solutions are discussed.

Information Technologies (IT) can be very useful for the patient records or the execution of tasks in a clinical environment. Healthcare Information Technology (HIT) contributions include assistance in diagnoses, automatic dosage of medication, easier access to a patient's medical history, reduction of waiting and staying times, and so on. Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) in ZigBee Technology can supply information about medical conditions. The patients with chronic diseases who need only therapeutic supervision can be monitored and at a distance through wearable devices. Using WBAN, hospital overcrowding could be solved. WBANs can be a factor in reducing the mortality rate caused by chronic diseases. Low-power with local processing and encoding capabilities of the ECG signal, mobility and flexibility are the main goal; miniaturization is other essential physical requirement. Preliminary tests for the ECG signal in a WBAN solution will be presented below.

This study analyzes various anti-islanding (AI) protection relays when the islanding condition of Grid-Tied PV (photovoltaic) System appears at the Point of Common Coupling (PCC) between the PV Solar Power System and the power grid. The main purpose of the study is to determine the performance of several AI prevention schemes in detecting the presence of an island, by monitoring the detection time of the islanding condition through different methods. The devices used to implement the methods include over-current and under-current (OI/UI) relays, over-voltage and under-voltage (OV/UV) relays, over-frequency and under-frequency (OF/UF) relays, rate of change of frequency (ROCOF) and Vector Shift relays. The protection was tested in case of complete disconnection of the PV system from the electric power grid and also in case of various grid faults.

The paper presents a method for the determination of the bias point of nonlinear electrical circuits, based on the modified nodal method, by utilization of symbolic computation and genetic algorithms. For the solving of the circuit it is written the equations system corresponding to the modified nodal method in a partial symbolic form. On the basis of the partial symbolic form of these equations an error function is generated which gives the circuit solution by minimization. In the paper are presented a few examples of circuits, for which iterative solving is not convergent. These circuits could be solved by means of the elaborated method.
