Flux switching machines (FSPM) with hybrid excitation (HE) offer some attractive properties, as robust and simple rotor structure, flux control capability, brushless topology, since the excitation winding is mounted on the stator and simple cooling possibilities. This paper compares the properties of a 12/10-pole FSPM with HE and an E-core-FSPM with HE with regard to their flux adjusting capability and torque capability. 2D-finite element (FEM) calculations are performed to underline the presented ideas.

The goal of this work is to present the study of the influence of the winding - double layer or single layer - to the global noise level of an induction motor. For this purpose, two variable speed induction motors have been studied, of the type M3AA 71 B2/4 manufactured by Electroprecizia S.A. Săcele, Romania, with Dahlander windings, star connected - for the low speed and double star connected - for the high speed. The motors are modelled from magnetic and mechanical point of view with finite element softwares. The noise-to-frequency characteristics have been determined by investigations in a semi-anechoic chamber.

Gas injection using simple and double crossing method through active discharge area of an electrochemical reactor GlidArc type has been used during experiments. This proposal could be a prerequisite for improvements of reactors efficiency with cold plasma discharges. New proposed solutions of gas injection are used to compare methods efficiency. Bio decontamination effects during experiments have been confirmed using a GlidArc reactor with circular symmetry at simple and double crossing method of gas injection. Experiments have been performed under ambient environment.

Phenomena usually associated with neutral conductor interruption are sensitive issues of low voltage electrical networks. These phenomena are now directly related to the power quality, especially in the case of three-phase unbalance consumers supplied with low balanced/unlalanced three-phase system of voltages. Therefore a detailed analyse for assessment of the risk development of these events is required. The paper deals with an analytical description of the neutral conductor interruption effect on the unbalanced three-phase consumers. The simulations for three cases are considered: low voltage supply system with four conductors in normal conditions of operation; the case when the neutral conductor is interrupted in the substation area; the case when the neutral conductor is interrupted in the lines area. It is shown that the neutral displacement voltage and neutral current depend on the type of fault and on the severity of the three-phase consumer unbalance. The results are useful for appropriate designing of the protection system.

The growing development of Cloud Computing raised the need of making hardware available “as a Service”. Reconfigurable hardware - like FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Arrays) - makes the ideal candidate for being integrated into Cloud systems due to their high flexibility and scalability. This work describes the design and implementation of a remote reconfigurable FPGA-based SoC (System on Chip) with a Service-oriented configuration interface over the Internet, and underlines several solutions in order to meet the specific challenges raised by this type of integration. The FPGA board (that can be at a remote location) is configured by a Web Service linked to a JSP (JavaServer Pages) Web-page where the user can provide a bitstream configuration file for the Programmable Logic (PL). On the SoC/FPGA board, dedicated software has been developed to run on the embedded Processing System (PS), managing the downloaded bitstreams and configuring the PL.

The paper presents a clustering based algorithm for consumers' classification in representative consumption categories characterized by typical load profiles obtained using measurements performed by smart meters. The results obtained were extended to other consumers that don't have a smart metering system implemented. In the case study, a working database described by information provided by smart meters installed at 87 residential consumers from a rural distribution network from Romania was considered. A comparative study was realized using a testing database formed by 60 residential customers. The results obtained demonstrated that the proposed approach can be used with the success in the optimal operation and planning of distribution systems or in building specific tariff structures of the customers.

This paper presents an overview of the main types of speed estimators used for the digital control of permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM). Simulation analyses are performed and estimation errors are presented and compared for the proposed methods. After centralization of the obtained results, the authors indicate which method of speed estimation is better to be used at high or low speeds.

The original concept of the gas flow through the reactor was presented. Two kinds of discharge elements were compared. In the simple surface discharge arrangement, in which the metal mesh adjacent to the ceramic dielectric was used, similar effects as in more complicated systems were obtained. In one-side cooling reaction space the high ozone concentrations and high energy efficiencies of the process, even at 25oC, were obtained.

The dynamism of the computer peripheral field and the wide variety of peripherals requires careful attention in conducting Computer Peripherals subject. The paper proposes several improvements to the Syllabus of Computer Peripheral subject complying with the orientation outlined in international documents. The purpose of these changes is to increase the attractiveness of the subject and to improve student's academic results. The way in which students appreciated these changes was monitored over a period of three years. The results of a pilot study confirm the effectiveness of the changes. Following these good results, changes in Syllabus were taken to other similar subjects from other specializations.

The paper presents some results concerning the availability of the wind. The authors' main idea is to consider the wind as a “repairable” system and consequently to estimate the probability distribution functions of the random variables: TBE - time between events and TTR - time to repair as well as their parameters. Depending on these type of distributions, a Markov or semi-Markov could be used for wind availability studies and the corresponding reliability indices. A case study is also included based on one year systematical measurement and analysis of wind speed in a given urban area where a new laboratory is located. This laboratory is dedicated to applied research and design of prototypes on renewable sources, especially for photovoltaic panels, heat pumps and wind for N-E part of Romania.
