The Crasto de Soure pairs up among the archaeological sites linked to protohistory and Romanisation of the Mondego lower basin. However, despite the interventions made and the supposed relevance of the archaeological settlement, only the preliminary news of the first archaeological excavations carried out in 1987 and 1990 are known. These were the most extensive works carried out at the site and provided a significant set of artefacts that have remained partially unpublished. In this regard, rather than reporting new findings at the site, this paper aims to explore the data gathered in those campaigns. A special focus is given to the study of material remains, which constitute the fundamental element to link the site to what will be a turning point in the occupation of this territory - the end of the 1st millennium BC

In 2019, during the rehabilitation project of the building located between Rua Miguel Bombarda, Rua da Misericórdia and Travessa das Peras, in Évora, a set of archaeological materials that range from Late Antiquity to the Modern Period were collected. From this set of materials, a frieze from the Visigothic period was chosen for study, dating from the 6th to 7th centuries AD, which was found completely out of context, in the building’s courtyard. In this sense, the present study offers a formulation of an analysis and interpretation of its function, typology and evidenced morphology, in order to promote a decorative-style and chronological framwork, through parallels found and already studied on peninsular territory.

Following the overview of the coppersmith craft in the country we now focus on Penafiel where, since the 1840s, it gained unprecedented visibility due to the setting up of a professional coppersmith, Manuel Cunha, in the city. We trace the “Coppersmiths Cunha” family path investigating how they settled in, the strategies adopted to ensure economic viability, and the transmission of know-how from generation to generation. Later, with the Penafiel region needs met, the newer generations set out to conquer new markets. In this expansion process they established coppersmith shops all over Entre-Douro-e-Minho. These were in great demand when the family, at the turn of the 20th century, added to their traditional activity the preparing and installation of complex alembics, and the making and repairing of sprayers for agricultural use that became indispensable since the blight emergence

In what follows I distinguish «postmodern animism» from my preferred term «postmedia animism», which I propose is a better term to express a minor, virtual, contrarian art and media. In the time of planetary trauma, ecological devastation and collapse, this term will serve as a heuristic concept to trace the passage from pandemic, panic, catastrophe and crisis to the series pandemonium, delirium and the carnivalesque. My gambit is to invoke a rebellious and affirmative Yōkai imaginary (妖怪, ghost, phantom, strange apparition) in order to contest passive forms of «transcendental narcissism» or «transcendental miserabilism».This we shall designate s an aesthetics of existence. In particular, I will analyse the relationship between natural disasters and politics within the Japanese imagination through reference to Namazu-e (鯰絵, woodblock prints depicting catfish), and their political effects in the aftermath of the earthquake of October 1855 (安政江戸地震, Ansei Edo Jishin) in the Edo period of Japanese history (FIG 1). My intention is to show that this historic art form, which grew out of trauma, demonstrates a fabulatory, dissensual and political aesthetics of resistance and creativity. It is an imaginary which appears conspicuously absent in our contemporary moment

The main thesis of this dissertation is set out in its very title, and to prove it will be necessary to eliminate the usual negative or melodramatic meaning of the two concepts that appear there and take them rather as the two extremes of the dialectical process of redefining the sociopersonal consciousness. In accordance with this, any catastrophe implies the violent breakup of the normal conditions of existence due to a natural or human factor whose direct consequences each one must understand and overcome on the triple ontological, social, and psychological determinations of the self. For its part, tragedy stands for the phase of critical and reflective integration that follows the catastrophe, which goes a lot beyond the sheer negativity of sorrow and even death, since even if the person or the people carried away by the catastrophe die, others will be able to make the most of that and the sociopersonal consciousness will be rearticulated. Of course, this implies that the self at issue is not only the individual one, so that other members of the lifeworld must be considered for the phenomenon to reveal a new or critical sense of existence beyond any previous approach to it. Thus, although there is an undeniably negativity throughout, it aims at a deeper level of comprehension of existence, which finally implicates that catastrophe is contextualized in a concrete cultural framework and not only as a sudden unsettlement and that tragedy is accordingly conceived as a philosophical tool more than as a literary genre that deals with the cruelty of fate. To get its aims, the dissertation will be divided into three sections of variable length: in the first one it will be analysed the experience and sense of catastrophe; in the second one, that of tragedy; in the third one, it will briefly be shown why understanding the nexus of both phenomena is axial for the current intellectual dynamics.

Expressions of nationalisms, identity-based conflicts and violent (de)territorializations are increasingly frequent and widespread throughout the world, related very often to the dynamics of human mobilities and geopolitical reconfigurations. They embody a complexity which, in this article, will serve a theoretical critique of the present and the equation of transformations in the processes of production of social relations, structures of social living and subjectivity. Contemporary socio-political conflicts are thus aligned with questions about the possibility of collective endeavours and its conditions of applicability - in contexts of dispersion, conflict, and inequality - as preventive or mitigatory efforts for potential disasters.

This article presents a summary of the results from the archaeological campaigns which took place in 2020 and 2021, in the Castro of Madalena, at Vila Nova de Gaia. The excavations in this small Atlantic Iron Age settlement, allowed us to collect the first data related to the dwelling structures and adjacent areas. We highlight the preferential use of building materials such as clay, cob, grit, and plant elements, which differ from more traditionally used stone elements. These ones emerge as a finishing element, suggesting the existence of mixed building materials. Also, is of particular interest the evidence of walkways, built with similar materials, surrounding the houses. We believe that further research will provide an important contribute to increase the knowledge of the internal organization of regional Iron Age settlements, prior to the Roman domain.

This work presents the results of the study of the set of roman lamps collected during the archaeological excavation carried out in 2004 at Rua Infante D. Henrique Nº 58-60 (Faro, Portugal). This intervention was carried out in a site that use to belong to the roman city of Ossonoba and that had its chronology defined between the first half of the 1st century AD and the first third/half of the 5th. The ceramological study that we present here had as main focus the chronotypological analysis, as well as the iconography and epigraphy present in the lamp fragments. The studied set presents a great diversification in terms of morphologies and the chronology that reflects a more intense occupation of the site is marked out between the middle of the 1st century and the end of the 3rd/beginning of the 4th.
