Cette recherche porte sur la mise en place d’un procede de comblement de lacune respectant la stratigraphie originale du polyester stratifie. Differentes resines sont testees sur leur stabilite chimique avant d’etre teintees dans la masse puis appliquees sur des eprouvettes. L’etude vise a degager une methode de comblement applicable a des cas d’œuvres ou objets d’art en polyester stratifie presentant des lacunes et conserves en interieur. Les approches theoriques et pratiques portent sur l’intervention de conservation-restauration d’un objet de design issu des collections de l’Art & Design Atomium Museum (ADAM) de Bruxelles.

Etude et conservation-restauration d’un Qilin en émail cloisonné chinois provenant du musée des Arts décoratifs de Paris 巴黎装饰艺术博物馆中国景泰蓝珐琅qilin的研究和保护修复

The documentary background on Chinese cloisonne enamels is incomplete, therefore its conservation enables the better understanding of their origin, technical nature and history. The last year of conservation studies at the Institut national du patrimoine was focused on the study of an 18th-century Chinese cloisonne enamel from the Arts decoratifs Museum (Paris). A research was carried out on the use of paper rubbers for the cleaning of copper cloisons gilded with mercury amalgam. Cleaning operations were completed by the use of peelable gel on large gilded areas, the dismantling and cleaning, as well as the conservation of the enamel.

Cet article porte sur le traitement de conservation d’un portrait miniature encadre, peint sur ivoire, et datant du XIXeme siecle. L’objet etait en mauvais etat, toutes les pieces necessaires au maintien de l’objet etaient separees les unes des autres. D’autre part elles avaient ete assemblees avec des rubans adhesifs (bruns et transparents). Cet article examine l’etat de conservation de l’objet et decrit les traitements de restauration: technique employee pour retirer le ruban adhesif, reparations du papier; nettoyage de l’envers de la peinture et remontage du cadre avec des materiaux de conservation appropries pour le renforcer et assurer sa stabilite.

L’œuvre presente des deteriorations dues principalement a une mauvaise conservation, une surface souillee et des restaurations precedentes realisees avec des materiaux non adaptes. Le dialogue constant et necessaire avec l’artiste a aide a comprendre sa volonte, le concept et le sens de l’œuvre nous permettant de projeter une intervention de restauration correcte du point de vue de la methodologie.

In the present paper we focus on the necessity of conservators-restorers to be equipped with scientific research tools such as observation skills from the beginning and throughout their education. We exemplify the necessity of this with two cases from the applied conservation-restoration practice in parchment and wax-resin lining of paintings, respectively, and show that research tools constitute an essential precondition not only for practicing scientific research but also for the performance of a number of other activities in the professional life of a conservator-restorer.

The theory-led Master’s Research Methods course in the Department of Conservation at the University of Gothenburg was completely redesigned for the 2013 autumn term from a theory-led to a student-oriented learning format. The practical techniques and interactive skills framework enables students to become familiar with common research tools culminating with each student writing a Master’s research project proposal. This article presents a reflective case study analysis of the course redesign undertaken with the aim to improve the student learning experience of research methods, and presents a model for research methods education in cultural heritage conservation.
