• We asked people with learning disabilities what was good and bad about using video-calls to receive support during Covid-19 pandemic. We also asked the Learning Disabilities team what can be difficult about using video calls.• We found that many things make it hard for people with learning disabilities to use video calls. Some people are unable to video-calls and need face-to-face support.• Some people with learning disabilities can use video calls if they have right support. We need to help people with learning disabilities to have equal access to technology and help them to use video calls if they would like to use them.

Supporting treatment and appropriate medication in paediatrics (STAMP):A Brent Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service audit for the LD pathway
Pub Date : 2021-07-01 DOI: 10.53841/bpsfpid.2021.19.2.44
Ben Weiner, Gohil Kishan
• STAMP stands for ‘Supporting Treatment and Appropriate Medication in Paediatrics.’ STAMP aims to make sure (1) psychological intervention is considered before medication; (2) medication is given only when needed and reviewed regularly; (3) medication is given for the right reason in children and young people.• The Learning Disability pathway within the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) in Brent (North-West London) conducted an audit to see how the team were performing to meet STAMP’s aims.• For children and young people taking medication, the results showed that there was not a big difference (a ‘statistical difference’) between (1) those receiving psychological intervention and those who do not; (2) those receiving medication reviews and those who do not; and (3) those who had their medication justified and those who do not. This means that the service is currently not meeting STAMP’s aims in the best way it can.• The service has suggested some ways to help them achieve STAMP’s aims and plans to re-audit in 18 months.

• People with learning disabilities (LD) are at greater risk of experiencing mental health conditions, which may be made worse by the Covid-19 pandemic.• This article investigated the utility of a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)-based group programme delivered virtually to service users with LD during the first wave of the pandemic.• This group intervention was found to have potential promise in being effective in helping service users better manage their symptoms and reduce levels of anxiety and low mood.• The group programme has highlighted some benefits of remote delivery of CBT-based interventions, which can be implemented as an alternative to face-to-face clinical input for some service users.
