The aim of this article is to present shortly the regulations and aims of Lithuaniaʼs cultural policy concerning cultural publications, to introduce publishing models of one of the biggest and most important Lithuanian literary publications Kulturos baraiand to discuss its importance for the Lithuanian literary society. For a small country, culture is one of the most important features of its identity and that is why we need to recognize the enduring value and mission of literary media – to inform about literary life, to influence public taste, to be an active part of culture, a tool for societal education, and the space in which creators can express themselves. On the other hand, increasing globalization and changing society needs may raise a question if literary publications perform their mission in a modern way, if culture is not equaled to a narrower art concept. Kulturos baraiis one of more than 20 Lithuanian literary periodicals with long tradition. Started in 1965 as an amateur publication, thanks to influential authors the magazine turned into a publication which is intended to shape the cultural strategy. In 1988, public discussion events organized by Kulturos baraigave an impetus to create the Reform Movement in Lithuania. At that time the whole cultural situation was changing in Lithuania – when Reform Movement was established, culture started to be understood as the basis for identity, and literary publications became the space which assisted to return memory. Literary pages were unprofitable for the mass media which had just been born, however, they were important as a sign of prestige. Kulturos barai, having played an important role in shaping the cultural taste in society several decades ago, still remains one of the most progressive and most modern literary publications, which performs its content management and dissemination organization in the best possible way. The research is based on the interview with an editor-in-chief of the magazine Kulturos barai.

In two experimental studies, we examined the effects of types of written production mode (hypertext writing versus linear writing, Study 1 and 2) and learning mode (performance versus observational learning, Study 2). Participants in Study 1 (Grade 10) were initiating the more formal academic argumentative text, while in Study 2 students (Grade 11) were familiar with the genre. Dependent variables were students’ content knowledge, self-efficacy for writing and text quality. For the independent variable written production mode both studies did show interaction effects between learning condition and pretest scores. For content knowledge, students with lower prior content knowledge performed best in the hypertext condition; students with higher prior content knowledge in the linear condition. For self-efficacy, linear writing was most effective for students with initial high self-efficacy (Study 2 only). For text quality, students with relatively very strong initial writing skills performed best in the hypertext condition, students with weak initial writing skills in the linear condition (Study 2 only). For the independent variable learning mode for the hypertext text learning activity (performing versus observing), almost no differences in effects could be observed: performing the hypertext learning activities or observing these performances did not make a difference, except to students with relatively low initial topic knowledge: students with low prior knowledge performed better in the performing condition. These complex patterns of interactions between learning conditions and pretest variables are discussed.

The comparison of the 28 lunar mansions of Daba and Dongba scripts revealed that Daba glyphs are single graphemes that are generally pictograms depicting the star atlases or related to the syllables of the stars names. Their counterparts in Dongba writing, conversely, are mostly ligatures consisting of several graphemes. They could be pictograms depicting the star atlases or the syllabic representations of the lunar mansions designations, or the combinations of both. Basing the analysis on the functions of the glyphs in writing down languages, the plausible path of development that can be highlighted from these two scripts have been reconstructed. Further on, the hypothesis is proposed according to which Daba script could be the initial stage of the Dongba writing system.

Strucni radovi donose prikaze provedenih projekata i opisuju primjere dobre prakse. Prvi dio rada donosi definicije kljucnih pojmova, promicanja i promocije te kratki pregled istraživanja, projekata i udruga organiziranih u svrhu promocije i promicanja citanja.

The primary purpose of the research was a comparative analysis of computerized integrated library systems (WebOPAC) based on and/or providing Web 2.0 services, by reviewing several important library systems of Hungary and the USA. The research was conducted in all of the 19 Hungarian county libraries and the libraries of 67 higher education institutions in Hungary. Besides, the integrated library systems of 39 university libraries in the USA were also analyzed. Both inductive and quantitative methods were applied. In this study, the selected Hungarian and American university libraries were studied from the point of view of Web 2.0 services. The main features of Web 2.0 services provided by those libraries were compared. In addition, content elements and statistical data were analyzed, major differences were referred to, and additional effective internet services were suggested to be introduced in the future.
