En octubre de 1898, Julio A. Roca comenzo su segunda administracion. Su imagen estaba asociada a la idea de orden. En los meses anteriores se habia exacerbado el conflicto fronterizo entre la Argentina y Chile, y el peligro de una guerra fue determinante en la eleccion de una persona considerada mas adecuada para presidir el gobierno en esas circunstancias. En los meses anteriores a su asuncion se organizo la Liga Patriotica, que movilizo una parte importante de la ciudadania e inicio un debate sobre el significado del patriotismo como valor politico. Este articulo analiza el papel de la Liga Patriotica y se propone demostrar que este momento fue considerado por los contemporaneos como una coyuntura critica y no como el de un retorno al orden. Considera que la movilizacion de la ciudadania, impulsada por el patriotismo, fue la respuesta a esta situacion critica y reflexiona sobre sus efectos politicos.

This article proposes an approach, from the historical discipline, to the festivals linked to local economic activity that emerged from the sixties in the province of Buenos Aires. We understand that an analysis of them over time contributes to shedding light on the changes experienced by societies in rural Buenos Aires towards the end of the 20th century. To do this, we will make an approach to the first decade of celebration of the National Calf Festival and Yerra Day, which has been celebrated in the Ayacucho district since 1969. Through the analysis of the official festival program, we seek to account for the continuities and permanence that were registered in the event during its first years of celebration, understanding that they may be representative of the transformations that affected the society that was celebrating.

A medida que el gobierno sovietico se preocupaba por interceder en el desarrollo de la educacion formal de sus ciudadanos, el Partido Comunista de la Argentina comenzo a plantear la necesidad de incorporar la pedagogia como parte del instrumental que debia contribuir a revolucionar la realidad social. Aunque la relacion del partido con intelectuales y artistas fue analizada en varios estudios, distinta fue la suerte corrida dentro de la historiografia por las practicas que impulsaron los comunistas en el terreno de la educacion formal. Este articulo busca problematizar y analizar esta ultima cuestion.

The Tragic Week on January 1919 triggered different social tendencies which were acting in Buenos Aires during the first postwar period. In a specific political polarization context, the Catholic Church and Catholicism took on an active role in order to defend the social order. Particularly, this article analyses the perspectives with which Social Catholicism of Buenos Aires –especially the one organized by Workers Circles (1892)– acted during the late First World War, which was the attitude towards state and non-state violence used in the general strike and what kinds of initiatives they promoted thereafter.

This article proposes a reading on how “good taste” was the basis to plan power spaces that would strengthen and legitimize the political project of the Argentine Confederation under the presidency of Justo Jose de Urquiza. It is examined the way in which Urquiza developed certain architectural sensibility to plan his space, therefore employing Pietro Fossati, who through the beaux-arts criteria transformed the house of Urquiza into the place of a modern sovereign. As for the design of the capital city, Santiago Danucio built urban facades to demonstrate the authority of the government. Thus, generating certain good taste principals, through the use of classical antiquity elements and rules.

This article deals with the representations and political practices of the neighbor, land owner and juez de paz Eulogio Payan in the north and west area of the Buenos Aires frontier with the indigenous territories, through the identification and analysis of the initiatives that he carried out with the government of Buenos Aires throughout the decades of 1850 and 1860. The main results shows that the improve of the political and military administration, the private property of the land and the frontier advance were key axes of Payan's initiatives and where he built and exercised a significant political power.
