Concept. COVID-19 has pressed the need for social distancing that was unprecedentedly invoked across societies during the pandemic. The governments that launched emergency steps to divert physical learning systems into online pedagogical alternatives created critical possibilities and adverse challenges for both tutors and learners. The study aims to review several cases concluding that the closure of schools and colleges has impacted around 94% of the student population across globe. The present study tries to comprehend the transformation (both expansion and constraints) in the pedagogical processes comparing results and feedback from both developed and developing nations. Result and Discussion. The study made a far-reaching analysis on the sweeping impact of COVID-19 at the integrative three-tier educational level i.e., primary, secondary and higher education in two separate perspectives i.e., teachers and learners. The restrictive movement policies adopted by governments have changed the conventional (face-to-face) educational practices. The findings suggest that different populations faced different problems during the pandemic because of number of reasons which is discussed and highlighted in the study. Originality. In order to map efficacy and efficiency, the principles, difficulties, and praxis of online educational pedagogy have been comprehensively examined in the study. The key contribution of the research is the result claiming the potential of technology as well as the obstacles faced by students while learning, due to digital mechanisms.

Aim. The main aim of the research was to verify the reading comprehension intervention program for the German language that builds on complex models of foreign language text comprehension while stimulating the cognitive, affective and social levels of reading. Methods. The respondents of the research were studying English language in their 3rd year in secondary schools in Slovakia. The data were collected with the didactic reading comprehension test for the German language (Hockicková et al., 2020). The research was conducted through a pre-test before the intervention program and a post-test after the intervention. The basic characteristics of the examined variables were described using descriptive statistics. A paired t-test was used to detect differences in reading comprehension before and after the intervention. Results. The results of the research confirmed an increase in German texts comprehension in each experimental group. A statistically significant difference in reading comprehension performance was not confirmed in the control groups without completing the intervention program. Conclusion. The reading comprehension intervention program for the German language at A2 level appears to be effective in the direction of increasing performance in reading comprehension of German texts. The intervention in German text comprehension is manifested in two simultaneous work practices, namely in the development of predictors and in working with different types of texts as well as different reading strategies.

Aim. The philosophy of alternative punishment is based on keeping the convicted person free, while imposing a punishment that will act preventively against committing another felony. The paper focuses on perceiving the importance of alternative punishment as part of restorative justice, and on presenting the results of the questionnaire survey which aimed to identify the public´s preferences in the context of various forms of alternative punishments as an option, instead of imprisonment. Attention is paid to three alternative punishments, specifically: community service, house arrest, and monetary sentence (fine). Methods. The questionnaire survey aimed to find out what forms of alternative punishment are, according to the respondents, a suitable alternative to incarceration. The survey sample comprised of Slovak individuals (N=1078) aged from 16 years and older, thereof 31.3% men (N=337) and 68.7% women (N=741). Results. Based on the analysis of the data collected from the 1078 respondents´ answers to the individual questions in the questionnaire, community service was identified as the most favorable alternative to imprisonment, whereas the least preferences the respondents gave to the option of monetary fines. Conclusion. The concept of alternative punishment is understood as a form of punishment that fulfills the purpose of a sentence, without deprivation of freedom, but still guaranteeing the fulfilment of a court-ordered unconditional retribution. Compared to traditional forms of punishment, alternative methods of resolving judicial cases do not enforce repression and prefer the individual approach to punishing the accused (convicted) persons with emphasis on corrective aspects of alternative punishment. The results of the survey showed that the respondents strongly prefer one form of alternative punishment, namely the community service.

Aim. This article presents the status of the Greek Catholic Church during a defined period. It brings the functioning of this religion in the period of normalisation of society closer. Methods. Our study is the result of archival and document-based research, as well as expert studies and monographs dealing with the above-mentioned issue. Results. Although we can define the period studied in our research as a period of relative freedom when compared with the years 1950–1967, it cannot be perceived as a total liberation of the Church. Unfortunately, the political reality was also reflected in the life and functioning of the Church itself. The Greek Catholic Church and its leaders understood that without the necessary support from the state and regime, they would lose their freedom mainly attained in the first half of 1968. Conclusion. The Greek Catholic Church had to face several important and ground-breaking tasks that were to ensure its stability for functioning and administration after 18 years of its non-existence. This involved receiving state consent for Consecrator ThDr. Basil (Vasiľ) Hopko, leadership of the Greek Catholic Church in general, consolidation of relationships and conflict resolution between the Greek Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church, or even the area of support and consent for building its own institute of theological formation.

Aim. The purpose of the research is to develop and substantiate a theoretical model for the formation of a professional culture of finance students. Methods. The authors used a set of interrelated methods: comparative analysis, comparison and synthesis, appropriate for modelling professional culture as a pedagogical phenomenon, and functional-structural analysis for systematisation of the stages of building the professional culture. A theoretical model of professional culture has been designed and validated. This model consolidates research from studies of motivation, cognitive sciences, organisational behaviour, and values in educational and financial institutions and lays the foundations of finance students’ professional culture formation methodology. Results. The obtained results showed positive dynamics in the formation components (motivational, creative, organisational and axiological) of the theoretical model of professional culture development. Our findings confirmed that the cultural and educational environment encourages students’ engagement in learning, boosts the development of their motivational and semantic sphere, ensuring the implementation of individual learning trajectories. Conclusion. The complex of methods implemented evidences the educational, cultural, and innovative potential of the college for training and students’ personal and professional development. The structure of the professional culture development model for finance students has driven a reconsideration of the content of their professional training, generation and dissemination of novel methods and technologies. Practical implementation. The purpose of the research is to develop and substantiate a theoretical model for the formation of a professional culture of finance students.\u0000Methods. This model consolidates research from studies of motivation, cognitive sciences, organisational behaviour, and values in educational and financial institutions and lays the foundations of finance students’ professional culture formation methodology.\u0000Results. The obtained results showed positive dynamics in the formation components (motivational, creative, organisational and axiological) of the theoretical model of professional culture development. Our findings confirmed that the cultural and educational environment encourages students’ engagement in learning, boosts the development of their motivational and semantic sphere, ensuring the implementation of individual learning trajectories.\u0000Conclusion. The complex of methods implemented evidences the educational, cultural, and innovative potential of the college for training and students’ personal and professional development. The structure of the professional culture development model for finance students has driven a reconsideration of the content of their professional training, generation and dissemination of novel methods and technologies.\u0000Practical implementation. The research has resulted in changes to the vocational training programmes for college finance students, the introduction of teaching methods for professional disciplines that proved their efficiency, and development of cooperation with banking institutions, financial and insurance companies.

Aim. The aim of this research paper is to investigate threats of religious extremism to the various cultural components of Pakistani society. Religious extremism has rapidly increased in Pakistan since the 1970s, but this study is particularly focused on its impact on cultural elements of the country in the post 9/11 and post-Arab Spring eras. Methods. The author applied the process tracing method of qualitative approach for examining chains of the events related to the question of the impact of religious extremism on the various cultural components of Pakistani society. The situational analysis also explored the various situations connected with threats of extremism to Pakistani culture. Results. The study identified the threats of religious extremism to a number of cultural aspects of Pakistani society, such as schooling (education), traditional literature (Sufi poetry), customary art and folk music, social cultural networking, and sports in the tribal areas and other regions in the country. Conclusion. The cultural life of a state encompasses various traits of the cultural aspect of national security. In the case of Pakistan, initially two important developments; Islamization of the country and Afghan Jihad in the 1970s both severely affected the society. Then, the eras of post 9/11 and post Arab Spring further witnessed the fast emergence of threats by religious extremists to the cultural elements in various parts of the country, including its tribal regions bordering Afghanistan, and these trends also impacted other regions of the country.
